Bandai Namco shares some additional gameplay details about Elden Ring

Bandai Namco has updated the official website for Elden Ring, revealing some additional details about it. According to the publisher, players can use the environment and weather to gain an advantage in battle.

In Elden Ring, players will ride through the vast fields, gallop over rolling hills, and leap to the top of rocky crags on your ephemeral steed, revealing a world teeming with life and danger.

The game will have mythic creatures that prowl the veldts, ineffable horrors that lurk in the bogs and marshes, and all manner of soldiers and itinerant warriors. Moreover, shy creatures will nibble on sweet grasses or scuttle through the underbrush.

Furthermore, players can try dozens of skills and find one to best suit their style. Players can practice stealth to avoid danger or catch enemies unaware. Additionally, they can use the environment, the weather, and the time of day to gain an advantage.

The game will also rely on dodge and parry mechanics. Players will have to learn the art of combat where they must read their enemy’s intentions. Thus, a well-timed dodge or parry could be the difference between life and death.

Here are some more details unearthed by the official website.

“Ride your steed into battle against mounted mercenaries and cut them from their horses. Master arcane spells from the masters that still linger among the ruins of the war. Summon familiar spirits to even the odds against you. Call on your fellow Tarnished to fight at your side and share the burden as you explore. Or, delve into the complex, bloody history of the Shattering and discover the lost secrets of the Demigods and their kin.”

Elden Ring releases on January 21st, 2022!

  1. GRRM only had contributions to worldbuilding, the setting. Everything else is Miazaki’s hand and foot.

    1. What do you expect ? Just play something else instead of asking for a FromSoftware game to be something else

        1. But aside from DS they’re mostly known for King’s Field which is just the DS formula with FP camera and combat mechanics that didn’t age well, i’ll take the new mechanics any day.
Even though Elden Rings looks a lot like DS when it comes to aesthetics, the combat seems to be a mashup between DS, Bloodborne and Sekiro

          1. Yes, but it’s not as appealing as it was, DS sent them to a whole new level of success because it was the most ambitious series of games they did, and it’s all normal for a company to focus on what they do best, i’m happy that Demon’s Souls was quite successful while the trashy Ninja Blade they did on the same period failed miserably, just imagine if the opposite happened.

          2. “BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH” excuses so they dont make anything other than souls games. They could make a new tenchu game….oh wait, this is what happened with sekiro and they turned it into a souls game.

          3. So what’s next ? A new AC with mechs saving at a campfire lol ? It’s just high level hypocrisy here, Armored Core got more than 10 episodes on different platforms and it’s all normal, but games with DS formula are stretched into 4 IPs and 6 games only but NO, that’s a lot if it’s not the games you like…

          4. “So what’s next ? A new AC with mechs saving at a campfire lol”

yes with swords and you will recover souls.

“but games with DS formula are stretched into 4 IPs and 6 games only”

4 ips only for from software, not counting everyone else making soul clones. Also there are 2 japanesse only games and one of them was named differently in japan but they called it “king’s field” in the west.

The last armored core game was over 8 years ago

          5. Souls clones are not FS’s fault just like it’s not id Software’s fault for the shovelware Doom clones of the 90s and not Valve’s fault for the HL clones of the early 2000s, you are not to blame if everyone decides to copy your work.

The King’s Field series was ages ago and the last one is from PS2 era, they were really niche and most people only knew about them after DS.

Last AC was 8 years ago but the series had more than 10 episodes, if you think we had enough DS games well i think we had more than enough AC games.

As for Sekiro it’s very different from the common DS formula if you ask me, try it and you’ll know, there are some similarities of course (just like Quake feels a bit like Doom, nothing wrong with that) but it feels really different, not the same story telling, combat mechanics, level design, grinding and progression, it’s also has stealth and lacks online mode.

          6. “Last AC was 8 years ago but the series had more than 10 episodes, if you think we had enough DS games well i think we had more than enough AC games.”

            kings field
            kings field 2
            kings field 3
that kings field game on ps2
            eternal ring
            shadow tower abyss
            demon souls
            dark souls
            dark souls 2
            bloodborne
            dark souls 3
            sekiro
            eden ring

They keep releasing the same game my dude.

          7. So once again, more than 15 games from the same IP is ok, but 13 games barely using the same formula and dispatched on more than 5 IPs, using different settings, themes and even strong gameplay differences between some of them and everyone screams heresy ?! C’mon…
To be honest the only 2 games i found really similar here are Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls 1 as they share the same engine, animations and some assets.
We can keep going your way and say that id Software was making the same game since Wolf 3D which is as wrong as saying that FS is making the same game since King’s Field, for someone who didn’t play id games Quake is no different from Doom, you got to play these games to see the shades

          8. “not as appealing as it was”, yeah to you. There are still plenty more folks out there, clamouring for a new Armored core, let alone a new mech based combat game, and those are already few in number like RTS releases these days.

Just because something isn’t appealing to you, doesn’t mean that genre should just starve and die.

I don’t like Souls games at all, but I don’t believe they should starve and die.

FROM was at it’s best when they were making various games, AC included. Now they are just a diluted, one trick pony, like Activision is when it comes to COD.

          9. By not “appealing” i was saying they’re not as commercially interesting as they were, i was not speaking about the quality of those games.
Whatever you think about their peak, internally they think their peak was when they were selling millions of their most ambitious series which is DS. For you their best was when they made the games you like but they see things differently as a company. Keep in mind they did more than 10 AC games, so we can agree this series had more time and focus then DS for now

    2. You’re joking, right? Might as well complain that the next Fifa game includes chasing a ball around.

        1. I would say don’t hate what you can’t, or don’t want to play.

I play games for fun, and dying 10 or 20 times in every boss fight is just not fun for me. No hate here.

          1. This, that’s a proper way to say you don’t like these games, i understand, keep in mind that you get better with time, these games are not only just challenging, they’re also excellent teachers and are polished in many other aspects

  2. I can already see how broken and wooden will be Horse and Horse riding system in this game.
+ once again all SFX from Demons Souls (PS3) will be copy&paste to ER, just like to previous games.
    Lazy a*s mf.

  3. hopefully its just a PR thing, I’m not too worried since souls games are very minimal with story, but that Demon Souls remake…

  4. so it will be kind of similar to sekiro combat! not bad as long as it’s a bit different
