Nioh 2 Complete Edition releases tomorrow and, unfortunately, it suffers from some PC issues. As such, we’ve decided to delay our PC Performance Analysis until Team Ninja releases its first post-launch update.
KOEI Tecmo has claimed that the PC version offers full mouse & keyboard customisation, gamepad compatibility, 4K Ultra-HD, Ultra Wide monitors, HDR & 144Hz monitors, as well as consistent 60/120 FPS.
Unfortunately, though, the mouse and keyboard control scheme has issues. For starters, there aren’t any K&M icons (though Team Ninja promised to release a day-1 update that will add them). Not only that, but mouse movement feels awful. The game does not offer raw mouse input and instead tries to simulate the analog stick of a gamepad. As such, mouse movement is “jumpy” and completely destroys the whole experience. It’s almost unplayable (yeah, it’s really that bad).
Additionally, PC gamers cannot select any resolution higher than their native one. What this means is that you cannot use a 4K resolution on your 1080p or 1440p monitor. A lot of games support this downsampling method, so yeah, it’s a bit amateurish to lock/sync the game’s max resolution with the monitor native resolution. So, while the game supports 4K, it only does that on 4K monitors and TVs.
We also noticed numerous pop-ins, especially with shadows. Some of the game’s shadows will change right in front of you, so it can be a bit annoying.
Thankfully, performance appears to be quite good. At 1440p/Max Settings, our AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 was able to run the game with a minimum of 78fps and an average of 83fps. On the other hand, we had constant 120fps on our NVIDIA RTX3080. Do note that these initial performance figures are from an early area (as we could not progress due to the broken K&M controls).
We’ve already informed Team Ninja about these PC issues, so here is hoping that it will fix them.
Before closing, Team Ninja stated that a day-1 update will add support for NVIDIA’s DLSS tech.
Stay tuned for more!

No duh, their games are always suffering on PC, not to mention expensive for what little they actually offer.
Little? Nioh series is by far one of the best if not the best game in soulslike style and it has more content then most soulslike games combined. BUt yeah go back to you CoD for even more $$$ and that glorious 4h campaign,
I bet you like how the mushroomy part feels like in your mouth. do they fck you in the a*s as well or what?
Hey ohhhhhhh, FINISH HIM!!! FATALITY! Damn, you just murdered that fool. Closed casket and all. You didn’t have to do him that bad. Jesus man, his soul has been reduced to ash. Flawless Victory! ?
” BUt yeah go back to you CoD”
I wish people stopped using this cliche phrase, i can’t even pirate the newer COD’s smh.
playing Nioh or any soulslike game on K&M is just about worst thing you can do. Just but that damn gamepad and play like human not some wild beast… I get it its PC release so K&M should work regardless but i cant imagine playing Nioh like that.
“play like human”
It’s PC version and it must be polished to the minimal standards you dumb c*ck
These Japanese should outsource the PC port to competent dev….
They’re still clinging to Soyny despite Soyny betraying them for the western movie game audience.
The first game still has issues like randomly crashing.
Good luck playing a game like this with keyboard and mouse.
You have trouble remembering where WASD is on your keyboard?
It blows mind mind that he couldn’t progress because the M&K don’t work the way they should…like dude just pop in a controller and stop acting like it’s the end of the world…FFS..smh
It’s odd given that they fixed the kb and mouse of the first game.
Seriously like..I enjoy M&K as much as the next guy but it’s a THIRD PERSON ACTION GAME
You use a controller, end of story hahah
Complaining about M&K being janky is like saying it’s janky to drive a car with your feet using your balls on the pedals, it’s ridiculous haha.
There’s not remotely the same amount of response or feedback, and you’re not aiming anything so it’s not like you need mouse precision..
Also you can edit the resolution in the text file if you reeeally want, but get a 4k tv if you want native 4k, they’re really cheap haha.
Idk this review is really stupid.
I’m with you.
KB+M gatekeeping PC gamers are the worst… Why can’t I use both?
Playing “souls-like” and similar games with a keyboard is nightmare, just as playing an FPS, or anything order game with precision aiming, using a gamepad is a nightmare.
since only low iq f4ggots (and weebs) play games with dark souls combat system and generally japanese games, it’s considered an icing on cake for them. they love getting fcked in the a*s by developers.
I like the way you think
Nioh dosnt have darksouls combat system… it has darksouls progression but combat is completely different. Something tells me you are slightly on re**rded side and all you play are some glorious western SJW games and CoD. SO it appears to me that you are subhuman f*g.
using cod to bash people with is an ancient argument used mainly by homosexuals from early ages. I would gladly play a cod game instead of this trash.
Yeah … I’d take John’s “unplayable” with a grain of salt. He stated Atelier 2 was “unplayable” with a KB/M and I played with a KB/M just fine. The deadzone input on mouse wasn’t really that noticeable coz it’s not an FPS where you need really precise slight camera movement so controlling and navigating the camera and UI with a mouse was fine.
I know some people will shrug this as a fanboy comment but NO! LOL. Atelier 2’s optimization was crap and it had that awful bug in which you have to plug a controller to remove the stutter. Also, I play games exclusively with a KB/M. Yes, that includes 3rd person action games. I finished FromSoftware games and Nioh 1 with a KB/M.
So far I’m taking your comment with a grain of salt, not his – given you’re implying Dark Souls was fine with k+m
I’m not agreeing with him but Jhon has been notorious with “hot takes”. I don’t recall the last time he said something suffered from otimizaiton problems when it didn’t, but i do remenber multiple times he claimed the otimization of the game were “great” when in fact was total garbage.
Johnny boy is known for outrage journalism just so the blog stays relevant and gains clicks, he’s never going to admit it.
What makes you think that Dark Souls franchise is hard with mouse and keyboard, especially DS1 where a mod fixes the raw mouse input? The game is simple and has 2 attacks minus modifiers. It becomes much easier because you get all the added precision thanks to using a mouse if you have been familiar with movement and first person shooters in the first place.
I didnt say hard, the port is garbage (at least DS1 and 2) and mk controls are sh*t
Uhh … where did I say that? Please show me 🙂
I finished DS 1 with a KB/M but I had to use Durante’s DSfix so no, DS 1’s KB/M control wasn’t “fine” 🙂
Edit : Reading comprehension problem? 🙂
I said implied, which you did.
Uhh … no 🙂 . Look at my post again and you’ll see that I talked about From Software games on my 2nd paragraph which means I’m talking about another topic. This is separate from the 1st paragraph of me talking about a game with “fine” KB/M controls which was Atelier 2.
And that’s why I asked you if you have reading comprehension problem because that’s normally how people, who knows how to write correctly with paragraphs, would read what I said. The only thing I associated From Software games in my comment was “3rd person action games.” Understand now?
It became progressively better with k+m with newer interactions. The first one was garbage, ngl.

Or orders. If they cant be bothered to put in minimum effort into pc port, they dont deserve money.
i bought all dark souls games even tho their pc ports are dogshit garbage controls. im not proud of myself but i suffered through all of them and completed them. it seems fromsoftware are improving on their pc ports tho, slightly…
even if they do, they’d still have to pay me a lot of money to play garbage games like this.
Agree 100% It’s good to see there are at least some gamers out there like yourself that won’t reward a Developer for a sloppy port unless they fix it.
Oh what a suprise.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t say the performance is as good as it should. If you check the video in the link, the effects really kills the frame rate well below 60fps during combat.

Yeah, these initial numbers are from an early location (as I could not play the game due to its broken K&M controls).
Huehuehuehuehuehue
Tehnically, you can select a higher rez for your monitor with DSR/VSR, then enable it in-game.
You can’t in this game, it locks the max res (even if you change your desktop resolution, you won’t be able to use a higher resolution than your monitor’s native res).
You’re acting like this is something groundbreaking. There’s tons of games that require you to set your desktop’s resolution to 4K via DSR first, even new ones like HZD and Death Stranding. There’s tools and even bat files that automate the process of setting the desktop to 4K or any other custom resolution before starting a game which can be found on various places like pcgw.
Can’t you read bro? He insists that you CANT, even if you set your desktop resolution to 4k. It will detect the monitor’s native and stay there. Read before carrying on your disgusting vendetta against him.
Looks like johnny boy has a broken as fxck windows installation, too many pxrn mods. I’ll prove him wrong tomorrow.
Btw johnny boy doesn’t want to read either, like the NDA he signed when he played this game mentioned that kb/m icons and dlss will be added shortly after launch.
Listen to yourself mate. You are consumed with hate and i don’t understand why. If you don’t like his website and his articles just move on.
There are a thousand things you have to prove to yourself – and none other but yourself – before you die, proving to John is not one of those things though .
it’s Kt..incompetent as ever
Just the publisher. Ninja is behind it.
“Additionally, PC gamers cannot select any resolution higher than their native one. What this means is that you cannot use a 4K resolution on your 1080p or 1440p monitor.”
u f*king r**ard… u need to activate these resolutions in ur amd or nvidia gpu settings. AND THEN u can activate them in all games… game urinalists at their finest
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you cannot. DSR does not work. Custom resolutions (and even setting your desktop res to 4K and then running the game) also do not work.
Never ever seen a game that doesnt work with dsr. Even bad pc ports like souls games… this game must be completely broken
Imagine expecting a decent port from Koei Tecmo, not a surprise that it runs like a sh*t and has bad K&M support
a terrible issue….game wont run 4k on 1080p monitor…..my god
I’m getting (mostly) great performance, playing the game maxed out at 1080p on a laptop clipped by an underpowered RTX 2060 Max-Q, getting 65-85fps 90% of the time. The only time my frame dips below 60fps is when I use power-ups with the accompanying post-processing and alpha effects.
But man, CPU utilization is terrible. I have an 8-core mobile Ryzen and the game is only properly using 2 of my 16 threads. Thankfully AI and other intensive CPU effects aren’t handicapping performance. But I can easily see how people intending to play at QHD or 4K are having issues.
