Halo 3 PC artwork

Here are some beautiful 4K/Max settings screenshots from Halo 3 PC

Microsoft and 343 Industries have launched the closed beta phase for Halo 3. As such, we’ve decided to capture some screenshots in 4K and on Max settings, and share them with you. These screenshots will give you an idea of the PC graphics that you can expect from this native PC version of Halo 3.

In Halo 3, players will experience the gripping conclusion to the Human-Covenant War as Master Chief returns to finish the fight. Earth’s defenses are all but crushed and Master Chief’s AI companion, Cortana, is still trapped in the clutches of the Gravemind. Amidst the chaos though, the Covenant occupation of Earth has uncovered a massive and ancient object beneath the African sands; an object that can turn the tide of war.

Players will battle online with fellow Spartans in a multiplayer experience that became a global sensation. Players will also fight across 24 legendary maps, create new ways to play with the iconic Forge tool and utilize theatre mode to capture and share your favorite moments with the community.

Halo 3 PC will include up to 4K UHD resolution and HDR. Furthermore, the PC version supports mouse and keyboard, as well as other native PC features (like a FOV slider and uncapped framerates).

To be honest, I thought Halo 3 PC would look more dated than it actually looks. While the game did not receive any Remaster treatment like the first two Halo games did, it can still look good in 4K and on Max settings.

There is currently no ETA on when Halo 3 will come out. However, I’m certain that PC gamers will be able to play it later this Summer (once its beta flighting has ended).

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

      1. Halo’s AI is very, very different than what it was at the time where Bungie was developing an RTS.
Halo’s AI is nothing particularly special.

        1. You probably never play any Halo it you say that AI in Halo is like any other game. Show me other FPS game where AI can panic and run away or take your vehicle? Any example?

          1. The first F.E.A.R AI is way more impressive…i’ll argue that the “AI” in the original Half Life is better (for the time)

        2. You probably never play any Halo it you say that AI in Halo is like any other game. Show me other FPS game where AI can for panic and run away or take your vehicle?

    1. It’s a straight port (with unlocked Rez, fps, higher lods and AF) of an early X360 game. Even more so, from a dev that never really pushed visuals.

      What did you expect?

      1. Halo 3 was the best looking 360 game for a long time. In some ways it still is. For instance no other game in that generation of consoles had more believable eye adaptation. Going from bright to dark areas or vice versa never felt more real, but it’s one of those things you don’t see in still images. The dynamic range of Halo 3 was incredible. Even today many games don’t even attempt eye adaptation. Another astounding thing about Halo 3 were the close-up textures, especially the normal maps. Practically no other game from that era holds up so well when you get close to objects / surfaces. Even now many first person games look worse when you get close to objects.

Look at the near-by textures in this shot. They would still hold up in a game released today. They would not stand out. 99% of games in the 7th generation had a quarter of this texture resolution or worse.
To say that Bungie weren’t good at graphics is patently false, Halo 1-3 pushed the envelope on Xbox and Xbox 360 like little else did. Keep in mind that Halo’s levels were always multiple times larger than any of its competitors. FPS back then were all about tight corridors. Halo games always kept up visually with competitors that rendered much smaller levels AND that took the easy route by rendering real-world guns and vehicles which automatically made them look more “realistic”. In the end Halo 3’s lighting and models held up over time. Those other games like COD:MW or Far Cry 2 just look awful in retrospect – flat and lifeless.

    2. You’re out of your mind. Look at some screenshots from other 2007 games besides Crysis. Hell, look at screenshots from any FPS of the seventh console generation. Very few can keep up with Halo 3.

    3. well even back then it was not a looker, especially compared to the first gears of war that was released before this game, reviewers pointed that out,but it make up for it with big wide levels and art style

  1. lame master chief collection on pc with no visual upgrades looks dated , look at those low resolution textures, outdated map, gun textures, less shadows etc

      1. I wouldn’t go that far. Modern Warfare, Escape From Tarkov, Metro, RS:Siege, even PUBG and CS:GO have weapon textures that blow those out of the water.

      2. Sorry but there’s no way this could be true.
They were great for their time, but obviously, they have no way to compete with what was achieved over a decade later.

  2. I still wish MS announce Halo 5 for PC.
Halo 5 looks handicapped on the primitive XBone. But on the One X, it looks gorgeous.
Found out in a Digital Foundry Analysis video.

          1. What’s wrong with a bigger console?
            I liked both of my OG 60GB PS3 and OG 20GB X360.
I still have my OG PS2 and dreaded that slimmed down model.
Xbox Series X seemed huge too, exactly 6 months ago. Nobody spammed in chat regarding that, like an imbecile.

      1. Well MS does not know what a word “sale” means, and their UWP crap is terrible.

edit: Sry didn’t know who am I replying to.

      1. Are you joking? Reach is one of the best games in the series. Reach and 3 are frequently contested as the best Halo games made.

        1. loadouts, armor abilities, bloom, awful Forge maps added to the multiplayer, firefight, etc.
The only 2 good thing are the soundtrack and the drop-in/drop-out matchmaking for the co-op campaign.

          1. How are those a bad thing? Firefight was almost universally praised and armor abilities was a great way to add new gameplay without changing the core formula too much. Loadouts are an awesome convenience feature.

I really don’t see how these things are downsides.

  3. Most big budget 7th Gen games don’t look dated because they had high quality assets and plenty of stuff going on but ran on tiny resolutions and with piss poor framerates.
A cohesive art design also goes a long way into making your game look good.

  4. The game looks really good after all these years. The Xbox One version of the MCC added a few things to the original like better lighting and 60fps. It’s going to be way better on PC with a FoV slider and all the typical options.
Let’s hope that they add matchmaking to the co-op. So far they seem to have forgotten that major feature.

  5. I waited 13 years to play Halo 3 like this. I played the game on launch on 360 and man it was ugly and full of aliasing. Crawling artifacts over the screen because of the low 1152×640 resolution and total lack of AA and AF.

The MCC edition on Xbox One didn’t fix it all the way, weak AF, slightly better with the aliasing due to the resolution.

Took 13 years before PC finally takes the game where it should have been. Full 4K 60FPS, plenty of AA, 16x AF. The assets and art finally shine. Been fun.

    1. MCC even on base xbone was 60FPS from day 1 and was native 4k on xbone x, I believe both consoles had trouble with the halo 2 remaster but most of the time they held pretty close to those numbers
