ESRB rated yesterday Cyberpunk 2077, giving it a Mature rating. However, ESRB has claimed that there are in-game purchases in Cyberpunk 2077. Naturally, this confused a lot of gamers. After all, CD Projekt RED stated that the game would not feature any micro-transactions. Therefore, the team felt the need to clarify what these “in-game purchases” actually mean.
As CD Projekt RED’s Fabian Döhla claimed, Cyberpunk 2077 will not feature any microtransactions or in-game purchases. However, the game will have some expansions, similar to those of The Witcher 3. As such, ESRB’s “in-game purchases” description is, in actuality, these expansions.
Here is Fabian’s full statement:
“As we’ve said before, Cyberpunk 2077 is a single player game with no microtransactions. The ESRB info is based on the fact that expansions require the base game and are therefore treated as a purchase by the rating board.”
So yeah, in case you were confused by the ESRB rating, no. Cyberpunk 2077 will not have any in-game purchases. And yes. You will only pay for the base game and you’ll get full access to the entire game, without experiencing any paywalls.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases on September 17th!

Treating games with expansions as “in-game purchases” is a tad deceptive here. We need a new description from the ESRB that spells this out precisely – useless body that they are they will be getting input from CD Projekt about this.
Hopefully ”horse armor” DLC will be on this game.
Horse Armor. The beginning of microtransactions. Started in 2006 in ES IV Oblivion. Most of us laughed at it back then but look at it now. Billions and billions of dollars spent on the garbage every year.
may allah be my witness, i shall pirate this game with such ferocity the likes of which has never been seen in the history of mankind.

Don’t get the goat riled up. You won’t like it if you get the goat riled up : )
If the game turns out great then pay for it. I know you have plenty of money. After all that 2080 Ti that you have isn’t cheap.
Allah will not be pleased by your theft. You will forfeit your 70 virgins when you are dead if you do this thing.
Alhamdulillah
Don’t get the goat riled up. You won’t like it if you get the goat riled up : )
*your
Can always depend on people taking the worst possible view on this site.
…and the expansions were better than the base game.
“no in-game purchases in Cyberpunk 2077” how the heck I will be able to purchase new weapons then ? /s
you earn it
I call that statement BS. Expansions and DLCs aren’t bought in-game – only from outside stores (Steam, GOG, PSN, XLive).
CD Projekt is blatantly lying.
By this logic almost every damn game with DLC should be labeled as “in-game purchases”.
Lmao the ESRB is the one that called it an in-game purchase not CDPR. Get a clue.
CDPR is the one who has been extremely vocal about wanting to do games as a service. You don’t do that without microtransactions.
*except for the multiplayer *. Which as long as it’s cosmetic with free dlc. I’m perfectly okay with it
The nerve on some people. I wanted to pay 40$ on a skin just like you can in the best game out there Fallout 76
Jeez CDPR, we get it, you are a “pro-consumer” company.
Stop jacking yourselves off.
Wow us with gameplay videos instead.
Correction, CDPR claims they’re a pro-consumer company whly they’ve done plenty anti-consumer things (Witcher 3 downgrade, lack of proper modding tools etc.).
Hell of a lot more than just that.
I forgot cut-out Witcher 3 mechanics (VATS-like targeting for monsters), characters, quests.
Or ANY gameplay footage whatsoever. We’ve yet to see a single second of it.
Do you guys think it will really be released September 17th? I have a hunch the game will be delayed again. Hopefully I’m wrong!
they already said they’re just debugging, they couldn’t possibly justify a delay.
fair enough
Micro-transactions for cosmetic items would be preferable to soy though.
visual downgrade is imminent.
No re-clarification was ever needed.
I was never confused, and I don’t use Ratings board bullshit to find out whether a game has microtransactions, or not, especially not the ESRB.
When ESA AKA ESRB announced their stupid definition of “In Game purchases”, it was perfectly clear it had only one purpose, to obfuscate any indication of the presence of Loot Boxes, and/or microtransactions, by bundling them in with expansions, and even free DLC.
Where even a $0.00 Steam/GOG store “purchase”, to add the free content to your account, will be counted as “In Game” by ESRB, even when they can’t ever be bought in the game.
Are we absolutely certain that this is what the ESRB meant by in-game purchases? Because CDPR has not always been completely forthright about things in the past. Anyone recall the bogus stolen early art work for Cyberpunk 2077 which they claimed was being ransomed for money? They’re not above saying one thing and then going ahead and doing another.
