Terminator: Resistance PC Performance Analysis

Reef Entertainment has released a new official Terminator game for the PC, Terminator: Resistance. This game is developed by Teyon, the team that was behind Rambo The Video Game, so don’t expect a triple-A title. However, Terminator: Resistance is actually a pretty decent double-A title. The game is using Unreal Engine 4 so it’s time to benchmark it and see how it performs on the PC platform.

For this PC Performance Analysis, we used an Intel i9 9900K with 16GB of DDR4 at 3600Mhz, AMD’s Radeon RX580 and RX Vega 64, NVIDIA’s RTX 2080Ti, GTX980Ti and GTX690. We also used Windows 10 64-bit, the GeForce driver 441.20 and the Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.11.2 drivers. NVIDIA has not included any SLI profile for this title, meaning that our GTX690 performed similarly to a single GTX680.

Teyon has added a few graphics settings to tweak. PC gamers can adjust the quality of Anti-aliasing, Post-Processing, View Distance and Shadows. There are also options for Textures, Effects, Material Quality, Film Grain and Motion Blur. The game also supports uncapped framerates and comes with a Resolution Scale. However, it does not feature any Field of View Slider.

In order to find out how the game scales on multiple CPU threads, we simulated a dual-core, a quad-core and a hexa-core CPU. And we are happy to report that this new Terminator game does not require a high-end CPU. Without Hyper Threading, our simulated dual-core was unable to run the game due to extreme stuttering issues. With Hyper Threading enabled, our dual-core was able to push a minimum of 200fps and an average of 216fps.

Now while the game does not require a high-end CPU, it definitely benefits from the better IPS of newer CPUs. Our Intel i7 4930K was bottlenecking the game on Epic settings and at both 1080p and 1440p. However, it was still able to push framerates higher than 100fps. As such, owners of older PC systems will have no trouble at all running the game.

Terminator: Resistance does not also require a high-end graphics card. Most of our GPUs were able to offer a smooth gameplay experience at 1080p/Epic. Hell, even our NVIDIA GTX680 was able to offer a “console” 30fps experience. Therefore, expect to be running smoothly this latest Unreal Engine 4 game on a variety of PC configurations.

At 1440p/Epic, our Vega 64 and RTX2080Ti had no trouble at all running the game. Our GTX980Ti was also able to offer a smooth gaming experience, though there were some minor drops to 57fps. As for 4K/Epic, the only GPU that was able to offer a smooth gaming experience was the RTX2080Ti.

Graphics wise, Terminator: Resistance looks a bit dated. Its lighting system feels old-gen-ish and there are numerous low-resolution textures here and there. Its character models are pretty good for a double-A game all of the machines/terminators look amazing. Still, they cannot come close to what other PC games have achieved these couple of years. Players cannot bend the grass, and environmental interactivity is limited. There are also multiple pop-in issues of objects, even on Epic settings. Thus, it comes as no surprise that the game runs so well, even on dated graphics cards.

In conclusion, Terminator: Resistance performs great on the PC platform. Contrary to Rune 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, we did not experience any severe stutters. Moreover, the game runs smoothly on a variety of PC systems. Unfortunately, though, the game lacks a FOV slider and this is something that will disappoint a lot of PC gamers. Moreover, its visuals will not impress you. As such, Terminator: Resistance runs great on the PC, but it’s definitely not a great looking title.

Enjoy!

  1. Watch GGmanlives review, its the best terminator game. It has open areas like metro exodus but smaller, sidequests, dialogue choices, upgrades, also this game has attractive women in it and you can have s3x with both of them….yup…in 2019….but how? Its made in Poland not in the west.

Have you guys noticed this? How every game made in the west has ugly female characters and every game made in east europe or asia have attractive characters?

    “But what about cybeprunk”

same thing with resident evil 7, 75% of the devs are foreigners.

Anyway welcome to 2019 where the terminator movie is sjw cringe trash and the videogame is actually good and its made in Poland by people who love the franchise instead of hating it with a lot of fan service and references to the movies.

    1. “welcome to 2019 where the terminator movie is sjw cringe trash”

Yep, Terminator Dark Fate has deserverdly tanked at the box office with huge losses being reported, the catastrophic Batwoman is reportedly soon to be cancelled, sales of Captain Marvel comics have slumped once more and the new Charlie’s Angels is also failing hard. #getwokegobroke

Meanwhile, despite a coordinated effort from the media to discredit it, a tsunami of salty tears from SJWs on Twitter and its director having made no sacrifices to pander to China the movie Joker is already,

      – more profitable than the highest grossing movie ever, Avengers Endgame
      – the highest grossing R-rated movie ever made
      – the most profitable comic book movie ever made
      – Warner Bros. highest grossing film of 2019

      ?

      1. yeah the director of both those two things was clear “incel misogynists i am a feminist”…turns out he is a s3xual abuser.

        EVERY SINGLE TIME

But dont worry at some point they gonna make a good sjw movie, you see “real sjwism has never been tried”

Also lol most of those companies dont care how much money they make in the west, they care how much money they gonna make in china at opening night….hillarious.

Lol overwatch gay characters in china are straight….i mean nibba, why do you even try at this point? Just dont make woke sht to appeal to middle upper class leftists.

      2. I’m just glad we got something good out of this in years, which was a semi decent Terminator game.

Last good Terminator game I played was Redemption/Dawn of Fate, but that was so, so very long ago.

    2. I’d say Gman was way more fair and objective to this game than every other “professional” journo was.

Ppl spouting IGN make me question their intellect though.

  3. I’d actually argue that this looks better than Fallout 4, both in lighting and textures, because I’ve found an insane load in F4 that look entirely last gen.

Then there’s Wolfenstein TNO/TNC and Younglbood, “AAA” games that also come with muddy af texture work.

Now I think about it, there are plenty if not a plethora of “AAA” games out there that seem to sport high end textures for guns/player models over every other known detail out there.

We’re still stuck in a crossroads where we have semi high quality textures, but also a load of muddy last gen ones as well. I’d say it’ll take another gen or two until every literal object contains the same amount of detail that character models get.

    1. ARGUABLY this looks and plays better than fallout 4 in terms of a post apocalyptic game. Its like a mini metro exodus but it takes place in usa and instead of monsters you shoot robots, with lasers.

      1. Yeah, it doesn’t really take much to run it, which is arguably a good thing, since most “AAA” games these days demand more than what they output with higher end cards.

People are giving the T-800/robot AI a bit of a bad rap though. I don’t think some of these folk grasp the concept of a killing machine, not an AI with built in martial arts/guerrilla tactics. Only Terminators that showed signs of tactical combat were the liquid metal variants, but they also had to make use of their abilities, whilst the endoskeleton models were just pure brute force spammed line soldiers. They just walk toward you and shoot until you’re dead. The friggin movies display this each and every time.

  4. Epic anti aliasing is probably msaa which crush at 4k, turn it off completely and I bet that 2080ti gets double fps or higher at 2160p.
