Red Dead Redemption 2 feature 4

Red Dead Redemption 2 Patch 1.14 released, addresses issues with anti-virus programs

Rockstar has released a second update for the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2. According to the changelog, this patch features improvements to address issues that resulted in Red Dead Redemption 2 crashing due to Anti-Virus software.

Rockstar Launcher has finally finished downloading the game on our main system. Therefore, we can confirm that the game can launch with Avira in the background. In other words, we did not experience any launch issues or crashes.

From what we’ve heard so far, the launch issues mainly affect AMD CPUs. Still, it will be interesting to see whether the game will also immediately launch on our Intel i7 4930K system.

Alongside the hotfix for RDR2, Rockstar has also released a new version of the Rockstar Launcher. Similarly to the RDR2 update, this new version resolves the anti-virus crashes that gamers have been experiencing.

As always, the Rockstar Launcher will download this latest patch the next time you launch its client. You can also find its changelog below.

  1. Game released 48 hours ago and its already version 1.14
I guess waiting for the steam version is the wise decision at the moment

    1. I think they’re bouncing off of the console version naming. It launched as V1.00, and got up to at least V1.09 on those systems. They clearly still have a lot of work ahead with fixing performance.

      1. Hmm, looks like you are right. And about performance, I was expecting something like Max Payne 3 and GTA V from the begining. I though they have learned how to optimize RAGE engine games on PCs.

        1. I’m guessing the game will run fairly well in a couple months time, I think they just rushed it out for the holidays.

          1. Thankfully they at least took the time to implement the Social Club, God forbid they prioritize optimizing the game before the Social Club is implemented.

        2. they can’t handle grass and vegetation, gta v’s performance is still awful in lush and green areas even with a 2080ti and even on 1080p.

    1. Check the CPU benchmarks Gamers Nexus just released, it isn’t just AMD. On the Intel side, the game stutters like crazy once you go over a certain fps threshold if your CPU doesn’t have hyperthreading (affects all the way up to the i7 9700k). On the AMD side, the game either won’t launch or will frequently crash on certain motherboards and BIOS versions.

Both of these are R*’s fault, and not that of the CPU vendor.

      1. “stutters like crazy once you go over a certain fps threshold”

Interesting. So is it a fine balance of choosing graphics settings high enough to give the GPU a workout so to try avoiding CPU bottlenecking while not overdoing it due to the game reportedly being mostly GPU-bound?

Seems a bit of an optimisation clusterf*ck, if so. Probably worth waiting for the Steam release so they’ve had more time to patch the game to an acceptable standard for launch. What a mess!

          1. The enormous resources at Rockstar and Take-Two’s disposal and yet this is the dreck they serve up at launch. Appalling.

          2. It really is pathetic. We all know R* delays their PC version solely to double dip (they absolutely have the budget and manpower to release a good PC version simultaneously), and they rushed it out for the holidays in a state where basically every aspect of it is broken. Glad I didn’t give them my money, on the initial console release or for the PC launch.

          4. Timmy Tencent paid handsomely for this shambles right now so to essentially beta test it for Steam, lol!

          5. Eh… these days, that’s pretty much timed exclusivity gets you all around. You are essentially buying the right, to beta test for them. It’s…. sad really.

    2. Intel has atrocious stuttering whereas AMD is going pretty steady and close to Intel with 3700x / 3900x, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

      1. Pretty sure he was just stating what was in the article. Don’t think he’s advocating that AMD CPUs are junk. Least, I hope not, especially given their latest Ryzen line.

      2. “I don’t know what you’re talking about”

I quoted from the article so kindly address your concern to John!

  2. Day one buyers must be quite pissed right now.
I’ll wait for the pirate or Steam version, wichever comes first.

    1. BUying any game at day 1 has proven over and over that it’s the inferior version. And yet they still sell millions of copies.

  3. Bugs bugs and more bugs we are behind the eight ball with this companies.

“Give us your money we take care about bugs later”

lately the companies like to sell us beta games!!

    Sigh!!

    1. “Give us your money we take care about bugs later”

Which companies are you used to dealing with? All I see is, “Give us your money. Now, f**k off.”

      1. Yeah you know I mean they always promise “Anything magic”. but we get alpha or beta games.

Lately the companies cares about nothing.

  4. I really hope some optimization is coming. Even at the balanced graphics setting, the game refuses to stay above 60 fps all the time on a 9700k and a 1080. It seems to depend on particular scenes in the game. I could hit 60 fps with many ultra options in some places, at others it would dip below 60 even with mostly high and medium settings.

  5. And those of you saying the game is unoptimised… it is not. It’s a next gen game and it has the graphics to show for it. Upgrade your potatoes, no way around it.

I’m getting 60-90 fps with a 1080Ti at 1440p, with a mixed bunch of settings I got from some optimisation guides.

    1. Right. As if anyone is about to take anything you say seriously. Maybe upgrade that potato of a brain between your ears, instead of spewing damage control BS.

      1. Btw, real classy how you use alts to down vote posts to tell people how to save a buck. All cause I don’t dislike a game just as strongly as you do. Seriously dude, grow up.

      2. LMAO why are you so triggered? It’s just a game! And a good one, honestly. My PC is over two years old now. If I can run it, most people should as well. You don’t even need my specs, and even at medium settings the game is way beyond what it looks like on consoles.

Here’s a screen I just took from the start of the game, which is supposedly extra heavy on the GPU because of the snow physics. Sorry for jpg compression, png file size was too big for disqus

  6. Those of you saying you’ll buy on Steam instead of Epic… you’ll have to use the Rockstar launcher either way. So you might as well just buy it straight from Rockstar and save yourself the trouble of another bloat launcher.

You can also get it on GMG with an 8% discount and redeem the code from the Rockstar launcher.

  7. Started playing four or so hours ago. No bugs, glitches or crashes yet. None.

But then again I’m smart enough not to game on AMD.

    1. Glad you’re enjoying it, Fernando! I’m looking forward to playing it in December on Steam. The original Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorites.

    2. After 15 nanoseconds the whole of DSOG can say that Timmy Tencent desperately needs to upgrade the AI of his bots. Chiefly yours. ?

      1. All he’s doing is saying he likes the game. And RDR2 is one of the most highly rated games out there. So it’s all good.

        1. The problem being, he spews the same drone-like praise drivel with no sincerity, for pretty much anything EGS-related. So, he gets called out for it. It’s all good.

          1. mister diaz contributes to this website unlike most people here, please respect your fellow gamers.
