Red Dead Redemption 2 Official PC System Requirements, requires 150GB of free hard-disk space

Rockstar Games has revealed, via its Game Launcher, the official PC system requirements for Red Dead Redemption 2. According to the specs, PC gamers will at least need an Intel Core i5-2500K or an AMD FX-6300 with 8GB of RAM. Rockstar also lists the Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 and the AMD Radeon R9 280 for the game’s minimum GPU requirements.

Rockstar recommends using an Intel Core i7-4770K or an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or an AMD Radeon RX 480. Contrary to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Red Dead Redemption 2 will have lower RAM requirements. Rockstar recommends having 12GB of RAM.

Lastly, the game will require 150GB of free hard-disk space.

Rockstar has not listed the framerate and settings that these requirements target. Moreover, the team did not reveal whether the game will support any Ray Tracing effects.

Rockstar will release the first PC screenshots for RDR2 later today, so stay tuned for more. Until then, here are the game’s full PC system requirements.

  1. The textures in the PC version are just amazing for this game.
It justifies the amount of space needed.

        1. You can’t have an opinion about the textures in the PC version because R* has not revealed any screenshots or footage of the PC version at the time of posting.

          1. You sure?

            –edit–

You’re actually right, checked the ones I saw and it was fake af.

          2. Read the article dude, it says R* will reveal the first screenshots later today.

        2. i dont hate the game. you were just shilling it. i played a hour or two at my brothers.its decent. day one pirate.

          1. You just understood what you needed to.
Jumping to conclusions much? I dunno, but I think this game is going to be beautiful on PC, since it is already very nice on the peasants box. And for the game itself, yeah, just decent. A little bit boring.

          2. More like decent day 365 day pirate considering how the scene is handling the Borderlands 3 crack.

          3. Wow for real? You gonna pirate the game that’s your beloved Epic Store timed exclusive? Or you mad that it’s also on RGS without Epic?

    1. Definitely grabbing a 2TB SSD on an inevitable sale this Black Friday. Game sizes are getting ridiculous, and the prices are low enough to justify it for me (Intel 660p can be regularly had for under $200 for example).

        1. Are you high? I get that it uses QLC NAND, which is relatively slow, but that doesn’t make it “more of an HDD” in any sense.

    1. The textures in the console version look good, but not that good. Keep in mind that GTA V was over 50GB when it first came out on PC (e.g. before all the online updates bloated install size even more), and that was a port of a 360/PS3 game.

      1. I saw the Update after I posted this. But even after they fixed it, it still says 16gb. How can a game like that requires more RAM than RDR2, I don’t know. Smells like poor optimization.

        1. It won’t require 16 GBs. It will continue working fine on 8, lol.

Anyway, most current-gen games jump to 10-12 GBs if they have where to spread (and Windows 10 is caching a lot anyway)

    1. I mean, a Forza, Halo or Gears game requires more than 100 GBS and those are nowhere near the size of RDR2.

      Kinda tame to be honest.

  2. Theres nothing mindblogging about these requirements. 16GB will become the standard for recommended specs now that the next console gen is just around the corner. GTX 1060 6GB and i7-4770k are already the standard for these massive triple A ports. The 150GB storage is ridiculous but no one in this industry besides Capcom knows how to compress games anymore so take it or leave it I guess. At least it runs on Windows 7.

    1. Maybe for RAM, but flash storage capacity and price/availability hasn’t caught up the same way. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start putting “SSD” in the requirements for games.

    2. The game for consoles required 100 Gb at launch, after many updates I believe this is the actual size now. It came in two blu-ray discs.

  3. With a game that contains this much content, I could come closer to justifying such an outrageous requirement, but it’s still just that: outrageous.

  4. Well GTA 5 was 70 GB on launch and it’s been 4.5 years so it’s understandable.

P.S. I heard that this game has an entire map for exploration from RDR 2010. So people who wanna do RDR on PC project dont even have to do the map.

    1. With 150 Gb? No thanks.
I guess devs found the best way to stop piracy is to make your game not worth the time to download.

        1. You kind of have to if you want to play multiplayer. Plus mods and workshop items tend to work a lot easier with legit games.

  5. There really is no reason for this game to be so big. This isn’t some massive, detailed world. it’s all mostly dirt and trees wtih a few towns here and there. 150gb for a boring game.

        1. He speaking primarily about PC in general. In 2019 if you don’t have a SSD then you only have your self to blame.

          1. The only minus about HDD is longer loading time. Since i’m gaming using HDD since winXP era,its not a problem for me waiting 1-2 minutes longer. Of course if i have the budget, and high capacity ssd is cheaper,i’m gladly move to ssd

    1. It is a big deal when at the same time these vast open world games usually have insane loading times on HDD, or suffer from textures / world not loading in without SSDs.

So they are basically expecting everyone to have at least 1TB of SSD space for all these huge as* fkin games.

  6. Do these developers think that people got 2TB of SSD space or what??

Many of the modern games NEED an SSD not only for the crazy load times, but the issues that a slow 7200rpm HDD introduces when it comes to texture / world loading.

    150-165Gb for one fkin game??

    1. Faster internet is the way to go. I got a deal on 300mb/s download now so I just delete and redownload if needed.

      1. Faster internet is not the solution. I got a 100 / 10 internet and it doesn’t help that you can only have 1 or 2 big games installed at once.

        1. I’m not saying you can have a 120gb ssd and nothing else. I still have 4tb of HDD + 1tb SSD. Now I just don’t care if I run out of space because I can redownload them fast. Lots of people have Gigabit internet now, and no not just in cities.

          1. I know a guy who lives in a small town in Ontario, Canada who pays $100/month for gigabit. Its gradually improving. Just a few years ago internet prices were twice what they are now for the same speeds.

          2. Thats pretty normal for my area too. 150mb/s is about $60 but I got a 1 year promo for half price and the actual speeds are about 300mb/s.

          3. Nice, definitely doesn’t take too long for even bigger games to download. I usually have to leave my PC on for a night for games that are 100Gb.

    2. well, yeah, it’s a big game. Probably has a bunch of extra high res stuff on PC version too, who knows.

  7. Not suprised about space actually, it took me 60+ hours just to finish the main campaign alone, and there were tons of sidequests with a huge open world.

I am envious of everyone who will get to play this for the first time!

    1. Is the HD space the same on consoles?

“it took me 60+ hours just to finish the main campaign alone, and there were tons of sidequests with a huge open world.”

I doubt it takes 60 hours just for the main campaign, but aside from that, a lot of open world games does the same with less space.

          1. Oh and in regards to your question about install on console. I download 107gb around I think (on xbox one x) ?

I think it’s more now after all the red dead online updates.

          2. Perhaps, not sure how much the online mode took, as I do recall it not being available at launch.

          3. Up to date PS4 version is 109GB, RDRO did launch after just like GTAO. I don’t recall the updates being all that large though, around the same size as the ones for GTAO.

          4. You were discussing HDD space.

Production value makes a huge difference to the game. It’s on another level compared to any other open world game or RPG. This could easily translate into more HDD space. Way more assets, animations, sounds etc.

          5. Sure, ever since GTA 4(or San Andreas maybe), rockstar is at the forefront of production values, and other companies don’t even come close.

  8. Why do people mad for real? Last year’s AC Odyssey requires 80 GB. Forza Horizon 4 is 100 GB. 4 year old port of 2013 game requires 80 GB now.
It’s 2019 and a massive detailed open world game. It could’ve been easily 200 GB (can be in 2 years after new RDO updates).

    1. no one cries about those games because no one cares about them either way.
what kind of rytard plays racing games?

    2. People are mad because these companies are expecting us to have at least 1TB of SSD space, because you can’t enjoy these games on HDDs, they’re not fast enough for huge loading times, nor for the texture / world loading.

Even in GTAV, you would have trouble loading the world before you when driving a fast car on an HDD.

    3. Neither of those games were particularly good, or even impressive enough visually to warrant that size.

Also the idea that because it is the current year X should be true is the dumbest argument possible.

    4. Just because other games require 100 GB doesn’t mean that it’s ok. Game devs should learn to optimize their games, allow people to select the language packs before download.

  9. The size is a joke and the minimum requirements also scream low effort port. The R9 280 and GTX 770 are probably twice as powerful as the console GPUs at the same resolution. If anything GPU requirements should be lower on PC since you can use a smaller resolution to gain frames.

    1. 12GB system memory does seem somewhat ridiculous for a console port so I fear you may well be right re: “low effort port”.

    2. Oh for f*ks sake, no developer will take into account resolutions smaller than 1080p to make these system requirements.

    3. Most developers don’t take into account resolutions below 1080p to make these system requirements.

    4. They should’ve listed what fps/resolution they were running when they came up with reqs.

If GTA V is anything to go by, it should be a good port. GTA V run pretty well for what it looked like and how much stuff was going on. I managed to get 60 fps at max settings (except grass and anti-aliasing, which were on medium) at 900p or get 50fps with dips at 1080p.

I hope they pull off similar performance this time.

  10. Don’t forget you’ll have to “install” Rockstar’s brand new Social Club B**tplug to be able to play.
I shudder thinking about what slimy DRM shenanigans they will try to pull with RDR2 on PC, Denuvo would really be the bare minimum, it’s probably going to be much worse than that.

    1. I bought an Xbox One X and the game at launch just to play it, even bought a Xim Apex so I could plug in a mouse and keyboard. I got bored like a little over halfway through and didn’t even finish it. I’m 36 though and pretty jaded when it comes to gaming, so your mileage may vary. It just didn’t hold my interest. Anyone want to buy an Xbox One X?

      1. Fair enough. I really enjoyed the game, but I get why others can find it boring, it’s a slower game compared to GTA and the first RDR.

    2. >You don’t have to play a game to know it’s sh*t

And just like that, opinion discarded. Also, your taste in games is boring as f*k.

  11. I love how gamers are just bowing to a game that’s 120gbs oversized. This should not be exceptable. But here we are accepting this garbage. All because they want to win eliminate Piracy at our behest. “Game Data” alone is no more than 5gbs to 8 GB’s of space but here comes Rockstar, Microsoft & Activision with their 150 GB’s as if it is the Norm in the last 3 years. This schit is disgusting. But I can’t wait to hear the fanfuqs, defend this schit. This industry has turned into absolute schit. Luckily for me, none of these games I have interest in. I don’t support wh*reschit. Even if these Games were 500Gbs, you fuqs would still be pre-ordering this filth.

  12. When I was younger I waited days to download games at 300kbps. Long downloads are nothing new and a few years ago I thought 25mb/s was fast. Now I have 300.

  13. People don’t seem to realize that modern open world games with pristine high quality assets will inevitably take a lot of space.

  14. Looking at the windows uninstall list, My current GTA V is 147GB.

That is with Redux mod, So I am not surprised that nearly 4 years later we are nearing 150GB game installs.

I have felt for the last year or two that the 960 pro 1TB was getting a little small from the constant installs and uninstalls, Definitely going to be a 2TB M.2 in next build as constant writes to an SSD isn’t great for it’s lifespan.
