In a post mortem documentary with noclip, IO Interactive’s CEO Hakan Abrak revealed that the studio is currently working on two main projects. The first one is a new Hitman game, Hitman 3, while the second is an unannounced game on a brand new IP.
As Hakan Abrak told noclip:
“Hitman is a trilogy. There is a bright future, there is this fully realization of the whole World of Assassination that we are looking towards as well of doing that the journey since 2013. To complete that and overarching spy story to complete that. And the World of Assassination, when that’s complete, it’s gonna be one big game with all the locations starting from Paris in Hitman 1 to the last location in Hitman 3, where it’s 20 plus locations.”
In short, Hitman 3 is currently under development, may be an episodic game, and it will ultimately feature all of the missions that have been released for both Hitman 1 and Hitman 2.
As for IO Interactive’s unannounced game – which is being developed by IO Interactive’s studio at Copenhagen – Abrak did not reveal much.
“We are still very much independent, we’re looking into the future with new things, potentially new IPs, that we might be working on, and we’ve created four original IPs from scratch, we’ve always worked on and created these characters and worlds and whatnot, it’s a part of our DNA and I’m looking forward to bring new stuff as well, apart from growing Hitman into the world.”
It will be interesting to see what IO Interactive has in store for us. Those interested can find the full documentary about the fall and rise of Hitman below!

Unless they remove the always online req. from their games I honestly just can’t bring myself to care. Even though from my play experience they are excellent games, still the forceful scripting puts it below prior Hitman games.
Silent Assassin was the best Hitman game. Change my mind.

Codename 47 (worst sh** ever created)
Poor Codename 47, at least they were trying something new, back then it just worked… but tell me why everyone is putting Silent Assassin over Blood Money ? BM was SA on steroids, more levels, more NPCs, bigger levels, more diverse missions, more ways to kill, notoriety system, better controls, graphics and AI…
Blood Money was much shorter, had overall worse targets, not as various levels, soundtrack was like a 10 to 0 for SA, the story overall is just a little bit better, but BM is very good no doubt. Codename 47 was just a a pile of garbage honestly, thank god they managed to completely forget that and craft something like Silent Assassin.
Every company has to start somewhere, C47 was able to deliver a good stealth experience back then, the disguise mechanic was a blast, the missions were well designed and it had a pretty cool story, but it was flawed by awful controls, and the lack of any save or checkpoint system make the whole thing artificially harsh, the f*cking boat mission near the end almost gave me cancer
Sure of it, but still…I played Codename 47 after playing SA, so imagine how i felt…It was unplayable, also if i remember correctly voice dubbing was horrible, and the translated ones were even worse.
Playing it after SA ?! What a challenge man HAHA yeah the dubbing was horrible, but 47 and Diana were not speaking (fortunately) only NPCs calling for help dubbed by soulless hobos near the IOI studios likely
Yeah, i felt kinda trolled honestly. But somehow SA was a completely different thing, from night to day.
Anyway, it’s really awesome to witness such a great franchise being relatively faithful to it origins till these days, as Hitman fans, we’ll have to enjoy that and hope it will last for years, that’s not the case of all IPs unfortunately…
Yeah these 2 last games were pretty good honestly, just a bit short but except that they’re good videogames, which is rare to come by these days.
silent assassin had better missions but aside from that it wasnt that good.
Your point, i respect that, when you come from C47 to SA and witness all the improvements you have to like it, but i have to agree that there’s some nostalgia effect too, and Contracts had the same stealth problems SA had, just with a better atmosphere
not really i was able to stealth it all in contracts in silent assassin it did not work no matter what. Played them back to back.
Contracts was a pain in the as* in some missions due to disguise being compromised without reason, this is the only Hitman game where i had to go guns blazing at the end of some missions (aside some scripted moments in the others)
“Blood Money (best lvl design)
Silent Assassin (best stealth)”
LOL WUT?
Its the exact opposite.
Right ! My fault… Stealth was average on SA
its good for going guns blazing ,not good for sandbox.
I like Absolution, even if it’s a downgrade on many sides compared to Blood Money, it’s also an evolution on many others, gunplay, graphics, interaction, story, and even many stealth mechanics and controls are more precise… It’s not bad at all, some fans pointed to that “instinct vision” like it’s not realistic, but when you think about it, a real time map showing all floors, hints, NPCs and targets is not realistic too…
The semi linear and narrative nature of Absolution make it easier for IO to polish it to the max, that’s why it’s executed well, on the other hand S1/2 are more ambitious, and they have far greater scale, that’s why it seems less detailed and somehow fragile due to their sandbox nature, and the episodic format doesn’t help at all, but overall, when it comes to gameplay i think they’re absolutely better than Absolution (LoL)
i found stealth to be impossible in that game, ai always spots you even when wearing a disguise and they strafe when they shoot, the last level is a shoot fest.
So no. While silent assasin had some good levels, contracts and blood money have better gameplay.
My turn
favorite:contracts. Best atmosphere and soundtrack, storytelling, variety in environments.
blood money: good mechanics especially the newspapers and buying weapons, levels are not that great.
hitman 2: good levels, some of the later ones are just epic, horrible stealth, i cant sneak in that game i always get spotted “disguise noticed” Wtf? In the end i just go guns blazing.
hitman 1, massive levels, variety of enviroments, good story, crappy gameplay, too damn hard, no saving.
Absolution, great cinematic story telling, too linear and scripted due to cantsoles, it best if you just play it as a shooter and run around shooting everyone with the cover system.
Hitman, hate the unlocking system, hate the episodic nature, godawful weapons, some decent levels but some bad ones as well, too damn easy, the ai is dumb and you can defeat everyone by throwing cola cans at their face.
Haven’t played that much contracts. I do remember a few missions, though. I also do remember that painful voice acting in the first 2 missions. I, as a romanian, i both laughed and cried at the same time when i heard romanian voices.
Blood Money haven’t played much, either. I actually never finished it. But i liked it so far. Lots of improvements to the gameplay, weapons and graphics.
Hitman 2, is the game i finished the most. I loved it so much. Finished every mission on silent assassin, with no kills. But i do agree that the stealth was fuked up. Very annoyng.
Never finished the first Hitman. The gameplay was too clunky for me.
Absolution was fine. Both story wise and graphic wise.
Hitman looks great. The graphics are very beautiful. Many weapons that i actually liked the animations and audio, but that’s about it. I have the game on steam, but never played more than a few minutes.
“Absolution was fine. Both story wise and graphic wise.”
Its the level design that sucks. Due to consoles and low ram.
What a game.
And that soundtrack.
Still remember the St. Petersburg Stakeout mission. What a game. What a story. Wish we can get a remaster instead of a new Hitman game.
All of the old IOI devs that worked on the first 4 hitman games are not there since the first kane and lynch, which is why we got the Hitman:abomination and why the new hitman lacks something that the old ones had(i dont know if it because it does not have the athmospheric Jesper Kyd soundtrack or just the levels lacks personality), what bottered me the most is how all the npc speak fluent english in levels like Marrakesh and Mumbay…the excuse could be that 47 understand many languages but when you go to the first 4 hitman games from codename 47 to blood money and hear chinese speaks in chinese to french police speaking in french, you know something is wrong nowadays
Why go with the episodic when the second game is much better with complete levels and features? Hate this Telltale episodic sh!t.
sweet
finally, someone who understands!
i hate the new hitman games, they’re soulless in every aspect. weapons are so boring and bland, mechanics are simplistic and robotic. animations and sounds in the first three hitman games are better than the new ones.
I like the base gameplay well enough, but IOI can get f*cked for the always-online GaaS BS.
we’re talking about how trash the base gameplay is not online aspects of it
I hope they bring back Kane & Lynch. Those games were far from perfect but I’m sure they could pull off something interesting with these two characters.
Kane & Lynch?
That 6/10 game?
10/10 for me.
They should scrap that stupid online progression. Make a spin off title or something for the online part..
It’s Hitman 8, not 3
