Mass Effect 2 feature

The amazing first-person mod for Mass Effect 2 finally lets you fight the Reapers via an FPS viewpoint

A few days ago, we informed you about a first-person mod for Mass Effect 2. Created by modder LordEmil1, this unofficial first-person mode let you explore the environments of Bioware’s game via a new perspective.

However, the mod was only meant to be used in order to explore the game’s environments and not for combat. After numerous demands for Combat support though, LordEmil1 released a brand new version that lets you fight the Reapers via a first-person camera viewpoint.

The modder stated that there are some major issues with the camera clipping through Shepard’s body and head that cannot be fixed. As such, you should consider this FPS combat mode an experimental mode and nothing more. Still, it’s really cool playing Mass Effect 2 this way so you should at least test it.

In order to install this mod, you’ll have to download it from here, go to ME2’s Install Directory (usually located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect 2
3), and then drag and Drop the Biogame Folder into the Mass Effect 2 install directory.

Those that are not interested in downloading the mod can at least get an idea of what the first-person combat mechanics look like in the following video.

Have fun everyone!

  1. Wow, I always wanted Mass Effect as a first person perspective game. Unfortunately, it’s reliance on the cover system kind of makes it pointless (just like in the recent Deus Exes – constantly moving in and out of body is distracting).

Too bad it never became a trend when John Carmack released sources to the past games of id Software. If a new id Tech game was released, we got the sources to the last one. Even if nothing substantial came out of it, it was always an interesting learning experience. Anyway, we got the Quake 2 RTX thing pretty much only thanks to the source code being freely available.

It would be awesome if more companies did that. Releasing sources for older games wouldn’t really hurt them in any way, perhaps even help popularize a game, keep it selling. I understand many developers used non-free third party code, so that might be problematic, but even if the sources were to be released with the problematic code totally removed, people would quickly develop their own or find ways to use a different, freeware alternative.

So… yeah, such a first person mode mod, to be fully usable, that would require access to the original sources. As much as I can enjoy a third person RPG-like game, I’m still a fan of the first person perspective. Or isometric/top down. Third person shooters, however, never work for me. Anyhow, I digress.
