YouTube’s ‘Zetman’ has shared some videos, showing Alien Isolation, Bioshock Remastered, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Nier Automata and Dragon Age Origins with Pascal Gilcher’s Reshade that adds real-time ray tracing/path tracing effects via a post-processing solution to older games.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; this ray tracing/path tracing solution is not as accurate as what can be achieved with DXR. Still, this is a great way to overhaul the visuals of really old games.
With this out of the way, let’s start with the first game we’ve featured in this article, Alien Isolation. Alien Isolation is set in a claustrophobic environment and benefits greatly from this Reshade. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; we really need to see Doom 3 with this Reshade. And if Alien Isolation is any indication, Doom 3 will most likely look incredible.
Bioshock Remastered also looks better with the newly introduced ray tracing/path tracing effects that this Reshade mod introduces. Unfortunately, Zetman may have used some incorrect settings here as there is a lot of noise when moving around. In pretty much all other videos we’ve featured based on this Reshade mod, there wasn’t any noise side-effects so there should be an option there that can de-noise the image.
Last but not least, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Nier Automata and Dragon Age Origins look noticeably better with this Reshade mod. Seriously, these ray tracing/path tracing effects can bring new life to older titles that have mediocre or an outdated lighting system.
Do note that Zetman was also using an NVIDIA GeForce GTX1060; a GPU that is not powerful enough for ray tracing/path tracing effects. More powerful GPUs can definitely play these games smoother.
Enjoy!

I have been looking for a reason to replay Bioshock a 5th time. Too bad BOTH PC ports are trash.
the original bioshock 1 (not the remastered trash) is still a must play even in 2019. infinite and 2 get tedious at the end a little bit but i’m playing through bioshock 1 with ray tracing myself and it’s still fun and atmospheric.
whats wrong with the remaster seriously i dont know.
have you seen one of those autistic mods that turn the rusty feel of fallout new vegas weapons into futuristic trash?like with a red dot and everything?
if yes then people behind remastering bioshock games did the same thing without realizing what an authentic design means. 2k games probably let the their interns or new guys redesign this for experience or whatever.
but i like those mods.
you like mods that add silenced m16 with red dot and laser sight to fallout new vegas?
I’ll have to boot Bioshock 1 remaster again on PC. i’m pretty it looked better. cleaner textures on a few things.
Looks better. But when I played it it had gaming ruining bugs. They may have fixed them. I was trying to get the Brass Balls achiemvent, which is where you turn Vita Chambers off. They ruin the game anyway IMO. Well Half way through the game, I die and respawn at a vita chamger. WTF right? Well it turns out the every time you boot the game that option gets reset. Then near the end of the game, during one of the many crashes, it erased my quick save file, so abbout 3 hours down the drain.
how is the re-master trash i wonder? i owned the original X360 version day one. xbox version was great for a time. the re-master features higher polygons models, enhanced textures, and the inclusion of foliage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzMlk8Fpwvk
The PC remaster is better in my opinion.
Except for very very rare crashes, Bioshock 1 Remastered is just fine.
i’ll upload some dishonored 2 and deus ex mkd ray tracing gameplay tomorrow if anyone’s interested. i’ll do dead space 2 a day after that most likely. i tweaked my rt setting a little bit and results are beautiful.
seems to me the older the game the better the lighting.
Impressive!
When I’ll see “RayTracing” and “ReShade” used in one sentence one more time here I swear I’m gonna remove DSOG from my bookmarks.
-100 FPS with one click! Cool.
are you people blind? there is some horrible noise especially in Alien Isolation.
Great improvements over the old games. I definitely would consider to replay them again.
*What program did this guy use to capture the videos? Even in 1080p, there are lots of noise.
1080p geforce experience, 25Mbits
The noise is due to the Reshade ray-tracing, not video compression. Maybe some Reshade setting was set wrong, or maybe the 1060 just isn’t fast enough to give a better result. After all, hardware de-noising is the reason the RTX series manages to give a good ray-traycing result.
NVIDIA RT accerlated effects are obviously much more sophisticated.
Your daily dose of ray tracing.
But this is an article about… graphics. What did you expect?
