Back in September 2017, we informed you about a Turkish listing for Cyberpunk 2077 which suggested that this highly anticipated title was scheduled for a 2019 release. And from the looks of it, that listing was legit as according to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, CD Projekt RED was indeed targeting a 2019 release for Cyberpunk 2077.
A few days ago, Schreier tweeted that Cyberpunk 2077 will not be coming out in 2019. And yesterday, Kotaku’s journalist shared some additional details about the release date window of CD Projekt RED’s upcoming RPG.
According to Schreier’s sources, Cyberpunk 2077 was indeed targeting a 2019 release, however most of CD Projekt RED’s employees believed that it was an unrealistic target.
This has gotten a lot of Reddit attention so some clarity: I've heard from three sources that Cyberpunk was aiming for 2019, but belief around the studio was that it was an unrealistic target. I expect first half 2020 or maybe even an E3 announcement of 2019, then a delay to 2020 https://t.co/8QsOatEFfJ

CD Projekt RED has stated that E3 2019 will be the most important E3 for Cyberpunk 2077, meaning that we’ll finally learn more details about it (and the team will most likely reveal its release date window). As we’ve said, our guess is that this RPG will be coming out in 2020, something with which Schreier agrees.
Schreier suggest that it’s unlikely to see Cyberpunk 2077 coming out in 2019 and he is certain that the game will be delayed (obviously at a later date) if CD Projekt RED reveals a “Fall 2019” release window for it.
Still, and from what we know so far, CD Projekt RED was indeed planning to release the game later this year (though a 2020 release appears more likely right now).
When asked about whether other companies have done such “planned” delays in the past, Schreier had this to say.
I think companies making announcements like "fall 2017" knowing they're not shipping until 2018 is surprisingly common yeah

I think there could be a lot of reasons. Could be something as simple as "Well we think we have a chance at hitting this, and maybe it'll motivate the team, even if we know it's unlikely"

Doom 2016 was such a good fps it ruined me for others, so till there are mods to run this game in 3rd person don’t care about it
Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t an FPS and Doom ’16 wasn’t that good and obviously you’ve never played any actual good FPS.
Yikes spotted the battle royale player
He liked wolfenstein 2 and he calls doom a bad game.
HAHAHAHAAAHAHA
OHOHOHO YOU MORON GOT MAD AT ME BECAUSE I DIDNT LIKE THAT PIECE OF TRASH CRINGESTEIN 2 THE NEW DISSAPOITMENT….AND YOU SAY DOOM 2016 ISNT A GOOD FPS?
BGHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
YOU ARE NOW BANNED FOREVER FROM EXPRESSING AN OPINION ON FPS.
All the video of Cyberpunk shows it to be a FPS/RPG hybrid of sorts. The camera is first person and gunplay is the focus so by definition its a FPS.
So you never played an FPS before 2008?
yet he thinks wolfenstein 2 was a masterpiece so kindly remove your upvote from this idiot.
he thinks wolfenstein 2 is better though.
Didnt like the arena design of it tho.
arena design? No, you are thinking of painkiller and serious sam doom had spawning enemies but it wasnt an arena designed game. It had keycards
Go into a room, tear out the heart, kill all spawned enemies. Rinse repeat till death.
Very much prefer non linear seamless level design.
You do a great job of bluring the line between trolling and mental illness.
Funniest comment of the thread.
Most accurate too.
In this rare case Kim isn’t wrong. Although there was no denuvo or always online in tw3.
Your of the stance where a store which prides itself on “f**kdrm”, should use the crappiest drm possible, and force online.
This is genuinely the apex of, “how to kill your game’s sales and momentum, in a single stroke of stupidity”.
Lets just hope they don’t Punk PC users this time around and we end up waiting for mods for three years to make a game look like it was made for PC in mind…
And hopefully a proper modkit like in TW2. Not the weird crap we got in TW3.
Don’t count on it.
They probably will, they don’t want modders working on a third person mod.
I know I’ll be waiting for the “enhanced edition” and most likely for modders to do their best to fix the gameplay (which CDPR has never done well).
We are going to be waiting for mod support later on. They pretty much specified this some time ago.
“A few days ago, Schreier tweeted…”
“Solidarity with my colleagues at Polygon and the rest of Vox Media as they fight for…”
?
i cant wait for them to be laid off now they are unionizing.
Yeah his personal beliefs and politics are not my cup of tea, but his reporting is accurate and should be a standard for any self proclaimed “games journalist”.
We’ve waited since 2013. We can wait a bit longer.
I hope CD Projekt Red takes their time and releases another masterpiece.
witcher 2 was a great game but not a masterpiece.
Nope, Witcher 2 is a masterpiece.
compared to witcher 3, it is.
For me Witcher 2 is a masterpiece and Witcher 3 is best game of all time.
witcher 2 has qtes, small linear maps with corridorsto run on consoles and horrible fetchquest sidemissions.
witcher 3 is a 4 to 5 out of 10 at best.
You have incredibly low standards.
Sure thing mate.
They can release it at the end of 2021 and i don’t care. I just don’t want rushed development just to aim early 2020. Take your time CD Projekt RED,and give us masterpiece
2020 seems more serendipitous anyway, seeing as how it’s based on the cyberpunk 2020 RPG.
Another downgrade incoming.
REEEEEEEEEEE MY BUSHES WERE DOWNGRADED!!1111111!111!1!111111111
How many times in the gameplay video did they have to say “this is not the finished product”?
They will not downgrade it.
They are just waiting until consoles can handle those teaser’s graphics 🙂
it will be on gog drm free
I’m actually relieved it will be 2020. CDPR is a reputable dev, and the longer they can let this one bake, the better it will be. There is no doubt whatsoever about that. Their history, speaks for itself.
Cyberpunk 2077 won’t have Denuvo or any other form of DRM. CDPR has taken a firm stance against DRM. All they need to do is make a really good game like The Witcher 3 and people will buy it. A lot of people don’t want to pirate but when you’re looking at a mediocre game for $60 the temptation to pirate it is there.
It’s fine if other Publishers won’t to make mediocre games but don’t ask $60. Ask $30 or $40.
That may be true of CDPR but the point I was making was that CDPR has taken a stance against DRM so there won’t be any DRM in Cyberpunk 2077.
CDPR’s strategy to cut down on piracy is to make games that are worth buying and it’s working out for them.
I’m sick of reading an article about everytime this K*ke farts, cheers.
This game was never going to come out in 2019 REALLY, and it’s unlikely to come out in 2020 either. Early 2021 is a safer bet.
Geezz what a novel.
Good! any delay should be regarded as good news. I trust cd projekt red
