RAGE 2 – BFG weapon to be locked behind Deluxe and Collector’s Editions at launch

RAGE 2 releases next week and it has been confirmed that the BFG weapon will be locked behind the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions at launch. This basically means that those who will not purchase these overpriced editions will not have access to this specific weapon.

As Bethesda’s community manager wrote on Reddit:

“Hey folks, I wanted to issue a correction about the BFG: at launch, the BFG will only be available as a premium item in the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions.”

We don’t know when Bethesda will unlock this weapon for the rest of the players, however this is a really anti-consumer move that was obviously made to boost the sales of both the Deluxe and the Collector’s Editions.

I also believe that it will be really ironic if someone releases a mod that unlocks the BFG to everyone at launch. From what we know so far, RAGE 2 will not support mods at launch, however, a mod that simply unlocks weapons is something that could, theoretically, be done.

Not only that, but pirates may also have access to the BFG weapon from the get-go (thus making the pirated version better than the Base Edition). So yeah, thanks Bethesda for screwing your legitimate players.

RAGE 2 releases on May 14th!

  1. I was interested in getting this the first week, but not now. Same with MKX. Arbitrarily withholding what is widely considered an important item, character or feature behind pre-orders or deluxe editions is a big middle finger to the consumer.

Even after Fallout ’76 I still considered Bethesda one of the better of the big companies, but they’re just the same. Reverse the decision Bethesda.. you know this is not right.

    1. Bethesda raped The Dark Corners of the Earth devs, Human Head Studios and a dozen other companies.
Plus they’ve been nickel and diming and dumbing down their games until they’re no longer RPGs.

Why would you ever think they were one of the better companies out there?
Christ, Bethesda and Blizzard fans have the self awareness of a f*king Ant.

  2. “USA Bill Announced To BAN Loot Boxes & P2W Features”

Here’s hoping for some traction on this front. USA is a huuuuuuge market for money siphoning tactics like this, given how stupid a noteworthy portion of the country is. Time to protect stupid people from themselves.

Maybe even see an end to this pre-order bulls**t too. This era of “gaming”, is the most embarrassing and pathetic, in its entire history. Time for change.

    1. because of fortnite and kids, i am fine with this, kids wont be able to spend money on fortnite and that game will go bankrupt.

    1. torrents don’t inherently lock or unlock anything, crackers work on the most complete version of games they want to crack, that’s why you get your games with all the dlcs, because someone paid for it.

      1. Thanks, Captain Obvious. I don’t know what I’d do without you.

Can you explain how I turn on my PC and how WASD works to play Rage 2 as well? I’m completely lost otherwise :O :O :O

        1. just wanted to remind you that your celebration of fighting corporate tactics is based on the fact that someone had to pay for your stolen game and stolen dlc which means you’re not hurting anyone, you wouldn’t have paid for the game regardless so that means bethesda’s corporate tactic works and your celebration is idiotic and stupid.
although i didn’t have to prove you’re stupid, the fact that you couldn’t comprehend my comment indicates you lack the brain capacity.

          1. Logic seems to ignore you, cause you lack any. I celebrate the fact that from one paid copy thousands get to benefit, and I don’t see how just that one copy bought means Bethesda wins. You are a special kind of idiot

          2. you eastern european peasants won’t buy the game regardless you dense rytard, average salary in eastern european countries is like $2400 ($200 or less per month). don’t pretend you own shet you peasants. you can’t even afford games on your own regional prices when they get 75 off.

          3. Haahahah, my car is probably more than your parents house in which you still live in, idiot. Don’t act like you know me, captain obviously a re**rd :)))

          4. I literally cannot work out what you’re saying.

FYI I was making a really (really) stupid joke off of your original comment.

I mean, sure, I guess someone had to pay for it originally, thanks again, Captain Obvious.

I may or may not buy the game, I haven’t decided yet. I generally don’t buy games till they’re a little cheaper.

Wasn’t really my objective to hurt anyone either :/

I did comprehend your comment. I had assumed you had not comprehended the situation or were making a sarcastic reply yourself. I comprehended your comment fully. Whether or not I comprehended it correctly is a different question.

Maybe YOU didn’t comprehend MY comment, because YOU lack the “BRAIN CAPACITY”

          5. Actually, you’re 100% wrong. I don’t have an IQ score.

I assume you know how an IQ test works, but just for everyone else: across the 3 main sections of the test, there are 2 subsections (if I remember rightly…). In the sub tests for all of the main sections, I scored top percentile in one sub test, and bottom percentile in the other test. So because there was such a discrepancy between the scores, I can’t have an IQ score.

Rather mean of you to claim I have a low IQ score, when I can never, ever actually have an IQ score in my life :'( :'( :'(

  3. LOL, when the game content is locked behind Deluxe editions. They dont even need to make any effort now, they just choose any content devs made for the game and put it behind a wall. But in defense of them, the ones to blame are customers.

  4. Shame, Rage 2 was going to get my cash that Metro Exodus didn’t want. Guess they don’t want it either. Oh well lots of other games to play without this anti-consumer junk I can’t support.

  5. This is really a bad decision, almighty Bethesda. Quite unfair. So, you are kind of locking the most powerful weapon, behind those Deluxe and Collector’s Edition copies ? *sigh*

This move seems illogical to me. Does not bode well, IMO.

    1. And on top of it it’s the Iconic BFG that is a nostalgic name for many PC gamers who started playing PC games back in the early 90’s or even new PC gamers who have downloaded the original Doom games on Steam.

      1. Damn, that sucks if it is true…..What’s next ? Maybe they will lock some specific game levels/maps as well, so in order to progress further in the game, only those who bought the deluxe/collector’s copy, or pre-ordered the game would be able to play these levels ??

I wouldn’t be surprised if this really happens though, LOL.

    1. COUNTRY ROADS….NO BAG…ITS TOO EXPENSIVE TO MAKE ….BUT HAVE 500 ATOMS….WHICH ARE NOT ENOUGH…TO BUY THE BAG IN THE GAME…FOR YOUR CHARACTER….BECAUSE BETHESDA IS GREEDY…COUNTRY ROADS….NO MORE MODS…ONLINE ONLY….TODD HOWARD IS A @%$#$$ $%$# COUNTRY ROADS!!

  6. Game also has 3 or more type of currencies, they might sneak some microtransactions in there too. pay to skip the grind might be a thing also.

    1. Man that sucks, so similar to MK11 but worse? 🙁

Where did you read or see that btw? The game was rumored to use a games as a service model so I guess they really implemented that from the sound of it.

      1. Oh, it has 3 different currencies for leveling up your characters, weapons and other stuff, they might be a normal/fair progression that you do in the game by exploring and killing without microtransactions, i’m just guessing they might shove those in.

  7. Would you really need this weapon? It seemed to me like you can be pretty OP sometimes… You have solid arsenal, weapon have 2 modes of action and skills are strong. You can send many enemies flying or put a shield… just look at that.

    You are like BFG 🙂

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmwmaDCePgA

    1. You may not need the BFG and are OP but it’s the principle that is wrong and this sort of practice is what is ruining the gaming industry.

It always starts off small but the next thing you know it’s exclusive levels, skill trees, loot, maps, enemies, upgrades, vehicles, etc, till the whole freaking game is completely ripped a part into chunks and is 100% based on a monetization model.

Having said all that it looks like you don’t need the BFG but it still sucks they had to do this. Makes it look like they are not confident that their game owns and that they are greedy. Feels bad Man 🙁

      1. Well, there was some exclusive stuff (equipment) in Collectors editions 15 years ago. Its not some new monetization model. But I see why you said that. So I tend to agree with you at least a little.

Anyway I think we should be much more intolerant to any sort of microtransactions or loot box crap because that can (and will in the future) influence the design of games – so you couldnt be able to finish the game or see all content without paying more and more in MT.

  8. Ahhh yes again wth their BS. You buy the game and you get locked content in your purchase amazing

  9. I don’t know where this sickening greed will end, but it seems law makers may get involved and put an end to it for us. Something has to give, because this garbage can’t continue to run rampant and unchained.

  10. Why is this even news? dev/publishers have locked specific dlc, mods, weapons behind collectors editions for years… remember red dead redemption 2? or any other game with dumb a*s collectors editions? big deal!!

    1. Apathetic people like yourself, who merely shrug their shoulders and surrender every inch to these companies, is the reason these articles have to continue to be written and posted everywhere.

Not much worse than people who just roll over and die, when they are faced with adversity. Maybe try demanding more for your money. Unless of course, you have no care about the value of that anymore either.

  11. And this was what convinced me to not get the game, it will happen if it gets cracked otherwise not. This kind of customer screwing wont be something I will support ever.

  12. Am I missing something here? Did Bethesda previously state it would be included in the base game? If so you have grounds to complain. If not then its another case of over entitled gamers. Its completely disingenuous just to pick out one part of the collectors/deluxe edition and at that a weapon that isn’t even from the same franchise and say it should be in the base game. If it was never in the game at all no one would bat an eyelid.Your getting other content for your money with those editions as well which make up the overall value of these deluxe editions of the game. Whether you think these editions are value for money is up to you. Feel free to complain about items locked behind pre ordering thats fair game.

  13. What pisses me off the most is when publishers ruin a good studio’s game with dumb business decisions. Now not only does the devs reputation get tarnished, but they have to bear with their game taking the brunt of the outrage.

  14. want the settler pistol from the first game? Preorder, want bfg? get the deluxe edition, want both for free? Wait for cpy to crack it.

Meanwhile i am sitting here wondering why the authority smg isnt in the game…i mean it is, but bandits use it, you have to use that generic assault rifle instead.
