Rumour: Assassin’s Creed Kingdom to be called Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok, first details and screenshots [UPDATE: Most likely fake]

Rumour alert everyone. It appears that the first details for the next Assassin’s Creed game have been leaked. According to the leak, the next AC game will be called Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok, will release in 2020, and will be a cross-gen title (meaning that it will hit both current and next generation platforms).

In this AC game – which was codenamed Assassin’s Creed Kingdom – players will assume the role of an ally of Ragnar Lodbrok that will aid in the formation of Great Heathen Army.

Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok is said to be developed primarily by Ubisoft Montreal, its Creative Director is Ashraf, and Darby McDevvit is its Narrative Director. Ubisoft  Sofia is also assisting but is planning on creating a DLC set in Iceland and using Yggdrasil to move across the 9 realms.

The game’s map is split into several kingdoms encompassing all of Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. Kingdoms are split into regions that can hold settlements, and settlements have some customization and in game economy systems.

Furthermore, it is said that large scale “conquest” battles will return, and can be used to weaken enemy hold on regions and parts of the story. Also, main character does become an assassin and will use a hidden blade.

Last but not least, co-op will return, and can be used in most side quests and world exploration, RPG mechanics, eagle, and ship combat will all return, ship combat is toned down to focus more on exploration and the game – in overall – is more focused on exploration, removing question marks on the map, and making players want to explore locations for better loot. Larger emphasis will be put on build and armor usage and players will have the ability to change outfits on the fly (which can speed up or slow down notoriety build up in different kingdoms and stop Sheriffs coming after you).

Now before closing, do note that this leak originates from 4chan. As such, it could be fake (which is why we suggest taking everything you’ve read with a grain of salt). Still, we found it really interesting which is why we’ve decided to share it with you (it also comes with specific details and screenshots so if the leak turns out to be fake, we can at least give kudos to the “fake leaker” for going the extra mile). We’ll be also sure to update the story if the rumour gets debunked.

Below you can find the first screenshots from Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok (obviously from a really early stage.

Thanks Resetera

UPDATE:

Resetera’s member Vintage has discovered that the screenshots are more likely from the Unity “The Blacksmith” short film. Here is a screenshot from that demo.

And here is one from the supposedly leaked AC game.

The environment appears to be exactly the same. Moreover, Resetera’s member zodiaq claimed that the combat stance the character is in looks like an animation he worked with.

As such, we are marking this rumour as fake!

  1. YAY for a massive copy paste world, bland gameplay and shallow mechanics with a mediocre to bad story( especially modern day) if it’s anything like Odyssey.

      1. Also don’t forget that Ubisoft is partly owned by Tencent Holdings, the 48.4% stakeholder in Epic Games. Avoid like the plague!

          1. That’s definitely preferable to giving Tencent any money if the Assassin’s Creed franchise is your thing. I tired of it years ago but might pirate the next one just for the hell of it since learning of Ubisoft being partly owned by Tencent plus that of how they’re seeking to bypass the key vendor market.

          2. Tencent is getting harder and harder to avoid they are even in movies bro. “Tencent Pictures”, doing stuff with DC Films. Tencent have deep pockets bruh.

          3. A market cap’ of over $450 billion!

Sheesh, I just read that Tencent are also part-owners of PUBG in addition to Fortnite.

          4. Yeah man they are basically the Chinese Disney. All because of that WeChat app and the power behind it. Gaming is just a small part of their investments. In other words, we are fuq’d.

          5. Here’s their ownership stake in some recognised gaming companies,

            Activision Blizzard (5%)
            Ubisoft (5%)
            Riot Games (100%)
            Paradox Interactive (5%)
            Grinding Gear Games (80%)
Epic Games (40% excluding share options)
            Miniclip (undisclosed majority stake)
            Supercell (84.3%)

      1. i’m sorry to heard that, i couldn’t stomach more than 10 hours on it after realizing how shallow and mediocre everything is, just one example, the “conquest battle” system where you take land for Athens then can immediately retake it to Sparta with no consequence whatsoever and every battle been the same.

        1. But why are you buying these games? Do you think they are going to just up and change after the 20th one? Please tell me that you atleast pirate them.

    1. No they don’t, they’d be throwing away a large number of players for no good reason.

      1. A small majority of XP players yes, but at the benefit of a modern engine that scales on modern hardware. Origins and Odyssey still max out on one core.

        1. I meant all win7 players (unless MS already implemented dx12 there, didnt keep track of all that stuff they announced)

  2. Ubisoft Montreal? I won’t be supporting that cancer.

      1. That was a braindead reply even by your pitiful standards.

No surprise to see you chiming in due to Ubisoft being partly owned by your corporate overlord Tencent Holdings.

        1. Correction “Squirrel Brain” Reply. Don was victim of a horrible experiment. Where his human brain was removed to make way for a squirrel brain. Hence why we get these stupid responses from him all the time.

  3. Ubisoft…They can’t tell a story to save their lives, it’s like all their writers are 13 year-old kids who’ve never read a book.

  4. “The game’s map is split into several kingdoms encompassing all of Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.”

I would not be surprised if the this game requires 250 GB on the Hard Drive. Also its impressive what Ubisoft can achieve in just 3 years time frame since I am assuming its from the same team who primarily made Assassin Creed: Origins.

    1. Well when you recover so many assets such as models, animations, textures, sounds, etc, your game doesn’t take the typical 4-7years of development cycle. Also, the teams are probably much more used to their heavily modified engine so the experience pays off in terms of manhours/game developped. They really should skip years sometimes and rethink core gameplay mecanics. AC always feels likes a copy paste if one plays every yearly iteration and it’s sad because those are imho good games. They’re just milking it REAL HARD.

        1. Please stop acting smart on the internet. It’s both cringy and sad. Everyone is Einstein on the fuc king internet. You always talk about “iq” and how “smart” you are and we are stupid. You sound pretty insecure, boyo.

          1. “Laughing at dindus is always funny.”
is this something that someone with decent brain capacity would write?

          2. also the guy who posted the picture is a notorious rytard, you should be proud of having same taste of humor and set of mind as him.

          3. You think WAY too much about your opinion, cupcake. How about you try to keep it for yourself only?

  5. Can’t wait for my progressive proud African viking, with his stunning and brave transgender raider army. Much accurate.

  6. Odyssey is great though it not an Assassin’s Creed game anymore ever since they overhaul the game play. Surprisingly Unity is the best when it comes to stealth game play.

Why don’t Ubisoft just make AC: Japan or China (excluding the crappy 2D games)? It would sell much huge.

  7. Yep, clearly an agenda to maker everything multicultural and inclusive when the west had multi cultures amongst their own race. I think the people who do this are the definition of racist and they don’t even know it.

  8. There is little to no reason to ever want to play an AC game, they are lowest common denominator when it comes to gaming.

  9. ” Ragnarok ?”

Reminds me of the NORWEGIAN Black Metal band, which goes by this name. True Norwegian METAL that is !! ?

Lyrical themes include Norse Mythology, Vikings, War, Paganism etc.. They are “one of the most extreme black metal bands from Norway” though.

    Go figure….

  10. Dang, I feel bad for Human Head’s Rune reboot now. Will get overshadowed by this sh*t in the annals of time most likely.

  11. I’ve unfortunately bought every AC Game so there’s little question I’ll get this one. That said, I paid like $5 for Unity and Syndicate and have never played them. Origins did a pretty good job with its setting and accuracy and environment. I can’t say the same for Odyssey because I never got past Megaeris out of sheer boredom, but it seemed decent. If Ubi actually puts the same amount of work into this as they did with Origins, I’ll be happy to buy the STANDARD edition for 25% off.

  13. Ok stop. No. Have you seen modern Greek people? Have you ever been to Greece? Anywhere in the Mediterranean?

I’m from Lebanon. My dad is from Lebanon. His skin is exactly that shade on the left. I’ve been to Greece and Turkey and Lebanon. That’s exactly what a lot of people look like. And no, their skin color hasn’t changed. It’s called a tan. Their crappy textures don’t equate to “muh sjw.”

    Idiot.

  14. For those of you saying Odyssey was mediocre or sucked you are definitely in the minority. The game is one of Ubisoft’s biggest games. Odyssey turned the AC franchise around big time. The story was amazing, gameplay was great, and the modern day got better.

If you didn’t like it fine. But to pirate it just because it was a game that you think was bad is being ignorant. Pirating a game you don’t like makes no sense. I mean if you thought you were going to hurt sales for the game you failed miserably.

AC was nominated for game of the year, which goes to show you how improved the series had come since Unity. Hate all you want. If you are pirating a game you are an a*s.
