Kickstarter campaing launched for Prodeus; old-school first-person retro shooter using modern rendering techniques

Mike Voelle and Jason Mojica have launched a Kickstarter campaign for their old-school first-person retro shooter that will be using modern rendering techniques, Prodeus. The duo aims to raise $52K in 31 days (and they have already raised $20K in four days).

Prodeus is a first person shooter of old, reimagined using modern rendering techniques that aims to reach the quality you expect from a AAA experience while adhering to some of the aesthetic technical limits of older hardware. The game will feature high quality 3D retro aesthetic, a focus on over the top visual effects, an amazing dismemberment system, infinite blood, fast-paced action, hellish destruction, a dynamic soundtrack, visceral and engaging combat scenarios, heavy duty weaponry and a multitude of secrets to discover.

Moreover, the team will offer resolution options (in order to get a proper modern-day look), the ability to switch between 2D sprites and 3D models, a Field of View slider, various HUD configurations and a Level Editor.

In order to celebrate the launch of the Kickstarter campaign, Mike and Jason released a new trailer for Prodeus that you can find below.

Enjoy!

    1. +1 to that. Thanks to Julian Gollop (Phoenix Point) and Epic Games Store the well has been poisoned when it comes to supporting crowdfunded games.

  1. Things that are not aesthetically pleasing in fps

    1.Huge crosshairs
    2.Huge weapon models
    3.Huge metroid style HUD
    4. pixelization heavy need for AntiAliasing.
    5. generic grey sci fi doom 3 corridors

This game does all of them.

    1. 1- subjective .
      2- subjective
      3 – subjective
      4 – subjective
      5 – subjective

The game looks pretty good for me and for sure a lot of people more who doesn’t want the opposite or thing that are “pleasing” in fps.

    2. 1 – agreed!
2 – I like them, over the top weapons are cool. But together with 3, it can become a problem
3 – I HATE this, there’s absolutely no reason to create this artificial HUD that doesn’t even relates to the character helmet or equipment…
4 – it’s a cool effect, but it would be better if toned down a bit.
      5 – that’s debatable…

      1. Did either of you read the kickstarter page? curious because you can change all of that pretty much just the way you want. HUD has toggle options, take off the pixelization/sprite mode and use pure 3d instead etc….

        1. i knew you can change the pixelization, still i can see sht in this video. Hud customization could mean anything and the level design still looks meh.

        2. It’s insane how it seems no one read the KS page or watched the video past the start. Sucks cause at 1:19 in the video they show the full 3D model mode and it’s in high rez.

Also everything is configurable, that is pretty amazing I backed it instantly after I read the KS page and watched the full video!

    3. 2,even the pistol?
      3.doubt it
      4. i dont think the pixelization has to do with the resolution. its a retrostyle
      5.wut?

    4. Would you rather play Wolfenstein: Youngblood? I’ll take this any day over that.

Go to the kickstarter page and read it all, everything is configurable(all your beefs) and they are adding even more options. Also watch the video past the start at: 1:19 to the end. For some reason they showed the sprite mode lower rez mode at the start and not the full 3D model mode and high rez mode. In high rez + full 3D model mode it looks incredible!

I backed it instantly and am mega pumped.

Here is the YouTube video at 4K and at the part that is in the 3D model mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tojo59cqo5Q&t=1m19s

      1. i finished dusk, i am playing amc tc , amid evil is gonna come out soon then ion maiden, rage 2 and doom eternal who gives a damn about wolfenstein?

      2. Same, It’s been a while I was impressed to game like this and presented good on KS. The details on how, when, what etc is good that made me backing it up.

    1. yes, it’s uncomfortable to look at for more than a minute. old games weren’t blurry, they were crisp.

    1. yep. it’s Doom 2016 with a low res style. actually, it’s worse since it looks like there’s sprint and reloading.

  2. If they can guarantee me a DRM-free or a Steam version of the game if I pledge, I’ll chime in.

As said before, I do not want to see a repeat of Phoenix Point.
