Nightdive Studios has released a new video, showcasing 21 minutes of gameplay footage from the upcoming remake of System Shock. As the team noted, the level shown here, Medical Level, is not the final version as there are missing enemies, weapons, effects, and sounds.
System Shock promises to be a proper remake/remaster of the first System Shock game. Instead of remaking and altering its gameplay mechanics, Nightdive Studios will offer players what they’ve always wanted; a high quality game that adheres closely to the vision of the original System Shock.
There is currently no ETA on when this remake will come out but we’ll be sure to keep you posted. Until then, enjoy the following video!

first!
IMHO, the Unity build from years back feels and sound much better!
The only thing that has improved are the visuals in the new UE4 build…everything else has taken 2 steps back! Everything feels extremely static and slow compared to the Unity build, where it was much more dynamic, fast and overall intense. Also, the animations and sounds were much better as well in the Unity build. Let’s wait and see…but not very happy with what I saw, especially after comparing with the original Unity build!
I enjoyed the previous Unity playable demo and like the look of this. If they follow through and make a Linux version i’ll be buying it.
In case you didn’t know there are two System Shock games being developed:
1. System Shock 1 Remake (Nightdive Studios)
2. System Shock 3 (OtherSide Entertainment)
And both will probably be great games. A great and model way to do a proper modern remake with System Shock 1 Remake, and System Shock 3 which is looking great so far and I hope it ends up being a proper follow up.
It would be even better if someone would remake System Shock 2.
Nah, that game is perfect, even the low poly character models add to its atmosphere. It does not need to be Remade and experienced as it is.
there are mods to fix that i believe its called SHTUP for textures and rebirth for models.
I didn’t mind the visuals but mutant voices bothered me. They are too loud, persistent and kinda weird overall. Same with monkeys.
a few improvements from the demo a few years ago ADMIN NOTE this is just a comparison of the old build VS the new https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dr23559a9xU
IMHO…this Unity demo from years back plays and sounds so much better!
yep better physic and effects the only problem is that it’s not that optimized on unity
Well this UE4 demo also visibly stutters.
the original game never reminded me of 2001 space odyssey but for some reason the remake does.
This actually looks like System Shock unlike the abereation they’re calling a sequel.
The old Unity demo looked so much better.
Where is the TURUR RURURURU RURURURURU TUUU TUOOOOOO TOOOOOO TOOU RURURURUURUU TOOO TU TUOO TOTOOTOOTOU?
The deaths lack impact, enemies just die no gore or screams and cameras and destructible objects just disappear no explosion sounds or sprites.
didnt they get in trouble because they were rebooting it instead of making a emake?
Thats not the whole level, wtf the game hasnt progressed much from when they showed it on unity.
They should’ve soldiered on with Unity – it defintiely looked better.
Boooooooring!
Ok, I know it’s alpha, but still boring!
I’m afraid the game feels too “sterile” in this state. And yes, people who finished System Shock 1 (including me) will “get” this remake. They will appreciate the reimagined levels, enemies and weapons (and so do I). But I wonder if it’ll seem that interesting to someone who has never played SS1 and is accustomed to more robust or dynamic games.
With updated graphics, it seems like there’s a dissonance between new visuals and old game design (including blocky interiors without any props in them)
I hope the melee attacks will have more weight to it, combat won’t feel that sluggish, and there will be some ambient noises to fill that silence.
Also, they gotta balance the difficulty here and there. Infinite health and energy from stations felt like cheating! Same with restoration bays. Also, they should rebalance the weapons and ammo to make every gun feel like it has its place. Some weapons were really OP while some did basically nothing to the enemies. Ammo distribution was really wonky, with special ammo being all too common, and common ammo being basically infinite.
And BTW, music has that DOOM 2016 vibe, which totally misses the mark.
