Deep Silver and 4A Games issue an official statement about the recent Metro PC developer comments

A lot of PC gamers got frustrated yesterday when a 4A Games developer claimed that the next Metro game would not be coming to the PC if all PC gamers boycotted Metro Exodus. And today, Deep Silver and 4A Games issued an official statement regarding those comments.

As Deep Silver and 4A Games stated, and as we noted in our story, those comments do not reflect Deep Silver’s or 4A Games’ view on the future of the Metro franchise. The companies also re-confirmed that the decision to make Metro Exodus available exclusively on Epic’s store for a limited time was made by Koch Media / Deep Silver alone.

Deep Silver and 4A Games stated that these comments reflect the “hurt and disappointment of a passionate individual who has seen what was previously nothing but positive goodwill towards his work turn to controversy due to a business decision he had no control over.”

Deep Silver and 4A Games concluded that they have every intention of continuing this franchise, and that a PC version will always be at the heart of their plans.

Below you can find the full statement.

“The recent decision to move Metro Exodus from Steam to the Epic Game Store was made by Koch Media / Deep Silver alone.

The recent comments made by a member of the 4A Games development team do not reflect Deep Silver’s or 4A Games’ view on the future of the franchise. They do reflect the hurt and disappointment of a passionate individual who has seen what was previously nothing but positive goodwill towards his work turn to controversy due to a business decision he had no control over. We respectfully ask that any and all valid feedback over this decision is directed at Koch Media / Deep Silver, and not the developers at 4A Games.

The future release strategy of the Metro series lies with Koch Media / Deep Silver. Our decision to partner with Epic Games was based on the goal of investing in the future of the series and our development partner at 4A Games. We have every intention of continuing this franchise, and a PC version will always be at the heart of our plans.”

  1. They moved it to Epic Store but clearly didn’t think about any benefits us customers would get out of using it over steam (currently there isn’t any and I don’t think there will ever be).

    1. But is there any benefit to buying it at Steam over Epic, other than having to use another installer? And isn’t it cheaper at epic than it was listed in steam? And isn’t it only limited time that it will be only on Epic? Whats the big frigin’ deal?

And from a business standpoint, if I have a product people want, I am going to sell it on the cheapest marketplace possible in order to get the most profits, as long as it remains available to all, which Epic is available to all, and is the cheapest at the moment. Don’t let feelings get in the way.

      1. It’s not about ‘feelings’. You lose a ton of features on the Epic Store. You asked what the advantages are…. I’ll name a few. Cloud Saves, fps Counter, Screenshots, Universal Controller Support and that is a small piece of it.

          1. Jesus if this keep up in some time i gonna need a magnifying lens to see the difference between the stores.

      2. 1. Cheaper only for the US, the rest of the world pays the same, if not more.
        2. Locking into exclusives is what people are most outraged about.
        3. Sell it everywhere you want but in this instance, they are contributing to monopoly for Epic rather being open market.
Edit… 4. Apparently there is fee to buy the games in Epic Store so it does in fact cost more for consumers = NOT CONSUMER FRIENDLY

      3. >any benefit to buying it at Steam over Epic.
Tons. from discussion theads and user reviews to guides, proper offline mode, achievements, cloud save, regional pricing.

        >isn’t it cheaper at epic than it was listed in steam.
        America only.

        >limited time.
1 Year or 4 Assassin’s creed games time.

        >Whats the big frigin’ deal ?
Cancer Exclusivity is one of them.

        >I am going to sell it on the cheapest marketplace possible.
No ? you are going to sell it where tons of people are already in-line to buy it. you can sell your product in a wasteland, it’s cheaper for you but guess what ? there are only you there.

        >which Epic is available to all.
No it’s not, it’s blocked here.

        >and is the cheapest at the moment.
        No it’s not.

        >Don’t let feelings get in the way
Reminds me of epic shills, shilling for epic store in Steam forums, lol.

          1. As a patient gamer, this is really just perfect. We get a polished game + Season P. for 30€.

        1. also add this one epic games refund policy is a joke even if you meet the criteria to get your refund they can reject it. i think metro game is broken that’s why they run from steam review like fallout 76 in bethesda joke launcher to avoid steam reviews and refund if the game is bad.

      4. epic doesnt have offline mode, and no cloud saves in 2019. that is just the beginning. no features, no broadcasting, no family sharing, no chat wher eyou can send and upload pictures aand files, no big picture mode, no reviews, should i go on? barebones client.

not cheaper…for me, metro costs 15 dollars more on epic store than on steam and its in dollars, while steam has my currency. its cheaper for usa only, cause you know, usa is the only country that matters.

china doesnt have the game, steam second biggest market cannot play the game cause epic is not in china.

anything else epic store lover? competition? nah, its not com-petition. division 2 is on epic store, yet green man gaming is selling it and takes 30 percent of the cut…this isnt competition, its straight out trying to eliminate steam. otherwise the game would not be on gmg.com.

  2. Well what about the hurt and disappointment of a passionate gamers wanted to play your game on steam but have no control over it.

        1. he makes a valid point. everyone has a cellphone, games play games on cellphones, why wouldnt you want a version of a popular game on phone so you can play commuting to work or school/etc?

          1. the fan buy blizzcon ticket and fly to the conference to see the new game as it should be released to the pc because the fan base is pc and they are wait a long time ago for new diablo game but what happen the game not released on a pc but instead on a phone also when they asked the dev about it. (is any future update about pc version?) they said do you guys not have phone.. this is rude from the dev we all have phone the response from them just like making the fan look like stupid and its not.. but the point is the fan is waiting for the game to be in pc not in the phone btw activision-blizzard want the game in the phone not because they want us to play diablo game anywhere but instead they want to milk the fan by microtransaction thing (which is most of the phone game do) all they care is money not a good game or want to care about the fan. what happened here is the same thing so metro get buyed by epic before releasing on steam which a better platform than epic store which is a joke they have security problem, don’t have buyer review and there refund policy says if you meet the criteria for a refund they can reject it. also thats why some games moves out from steam like fallout 76 ( broken game ) which bethesda moved it to there launcher to sell it in full price, avoid buyer review and refund.

          2. “the fan buy blizzcon ticket and fly to the conference to see the new game as it should be released to the pc”

they never said a new game for pc would be announced. also i they bought a ticket JUST to see one game announced then they are dumb and deserved it. stop being entitled.

          3. John it’s even better. They got hyped about a game that Blizzard pretty much said was not coming out in a press release prior to Blizzcon where they told the whole community that they should curb their expectations and not expect something major to be announce, and those fools still went in thinking Diablo 4 was for, damn sure, being announced that year.

          4. I don’t play games on a cellphone. I started coding at 12, professionally at 16 and started my own software company at 21. Maybe, just maybe if you think about your future when commuting you wouldn’t be left behind playing games on a cellphone. I could be wrong though, perhaps your aspirations go no further than packing shelves for a company such as Walmart.

          5. ahahhaha! you cant be serious. im assuming you play pc or console games yet you look down on phone gamers? what a joke. i also love how you assume im so low wage worker as well. while i dont have my own tech company i do run a successful card and comic book shop. i have much more time to play phone games than console or pc at work so i do appreciate being able to play on phone. while it may not be for you there are a hundred million others who play mobile games and make in app purchases. whether you like it or not its the future of gaming.

          6. No, I don’t look down on ‘phone gamers’. I simply point out that your time is better spent.

          7. is this rytard this stupid for real? seems like your comprehension skill is lower than an actual rytard. also sure, we believed everything you said. are you new to the internet?

          8. he f*ked over tons of his loyal customers to get some off that Chinese mobile market money, and you want us to be happy with that?

      1. How many copies of Windows do you install on your PC at one time?!

When you finish your education and get a job, then you will understand what consumer choice is.

      2. No, if the game is not on steam, I do not want it, even if it were for free. I bought the same games I have on GOG on steam as well, just because. I have other accounts, even Epic, but why to eat bread when I have pancakes.

    1. Oh those poor people. Epic launcher is so large most people can’t download it without finishing their FUP.

  3. This whole entire situation sucks completely. 4A deserve so much better than this, the Author of the book deserves so much better than this, and Gammwrs deserve so much better than this.

I’m not outraged at the one guy saying what he said. Was it completely stupid? Yes. But people tend to say dumb sh*t in times of frustration.

I’m sure 4A were very pissed off about the decision and made quite the fight for it to not happen, but business is business, they don’t have full control over the game and Koch Medis simply didn’t care.

They didn’t even care that it was the Author of the books they’re making money off of, who requested its on steam in the first place.

I’m still going to try and enjoy playing the game for the people at 4A and the Author, on Steam where I own it, because they deserve to have their work seen by people and experienced.

Hopefully it’s good, and hopefully, 4A leaves Deep Silver and seeks outs different Publisher when they can.

    1. “I’m not outraged at the one guy saying what he said. Was it completely stupid? Yes. But people tend to say dumb sh*t in times of frustration.”

HE THREATENED THE PC GAME YOU SHILL.

Didn’t you read the comment ? Even though his post might look like it had a different and obvious intention, the TRUTH is that he THREATENED THE PC GAME.

Us PC gamer f**ks will not take any of this NONSENSE !

  4. Without being partial in this, how come no one reflects over the fact that Valve/Steam charges 30% of the revenue vs. EPIC Stores 12%?

    1. Because that is not the issue here. Removing a game from a storefront with just 2.5 weeks to go is a far bigger deal to many (and it should be).

      1. Never stated that it would benefit consumers, just saying. And as sad as I was to see Metro Exodus MIA from Steam, I refuse to punish the game developers for the actions of their publishers. I will buy their game on EPIC store nonetheless…

          1. If the game is still full price on steam in one year you wouldn’t be punishing them.

    2. 70? of 2mil copies is a lot better than 88? of 200 000. Don’t kid yourself that the percent cut is some huge factor here, it’s all about the one-time payment Epic forks over for the exclusivity deal.

      1. And again, I’ll say I won’t punish the developers for the actions of the publishers. Nor should anyone. Not that I’ll agree with what you are stating concerning sale figures, though I also suspect Epic to promote their own store with this move, no doubt.

    3. So where are the cheaper games on other stores because of it then? If Steam are taking 30% for all Ubisoft games for example, why are games the same price on Uplay and why do I see Epic Game stores prices the same as Steam prices in the UK? Sale prices don’t count, all stores have sales.

    4. Never stated that it would benefit consumers, just saying. And as sad as I was to see Metro Exodus MIA from Steam, I refuse to punish the game developers for the actions of their publishers. I will buy their game on EPIC store nonetheless…

    5. If Epic wants to compare its service to Steam’s in order to b*tch about the fee, how come Epic Store is missing hundreds of features that Steam provides? This is like complaining that at fancy restaurant is ripping people off because their T-bone steak is more expensive than a cheeseburger at McDonald’s.

  5. For f sake grow some balls and stand up for yourselves and your employees and stop apologizing. First developers started bending the knee to SJWs and now they are bending the knee to every child or 30 year old i.n.c.e.l. on the internet who has nothing better to do with his life than find reasons to complain about video games. Yes, everyone understands the arguments and why someone may be upset over the epic exclusivity. But there are far worse things going on in the world than this insignificant s h 1 t right now, because at the end of the day you only need to take a couple of minutes to install a f-ing game launcher and get over yourself.

    1. First of all this appologizing has nothing to do with bending the knee. It’s damage control and is purely a business decision.

Second insulting people that protest IS the childish thing to do, so you prove yourself a child by resorting to cheap insults.
As to your “there are worse things in the world right now” argument, it is also stupid. Different people have different problems. If you infer that we should all attend to problems according to their importance on the world scale as opposed to their relation to us, society would break down over all of us trying to cure aids and cancer and world hunger. As nice as that would be to happen, there would be unfortunate and negative side effects that as a whole would not be beneficial to the forwarding of society and it would strip us of our humanity. Basically we would all become robots etc.

Believe it or not, us protesting this can only improve relations between gamers and developers and developement of games in the future. And that will contribute to the progress of society going forward. I will not go on detail as to why, maybe you’ll think about it a little at night, before you fall asleep.

    2. For years we have been trying to held these companies accountable for their awful business practices, awful pricing, microtransactions, awful drm, always online, mass effect 3 ending. The industry has been ignoring us, then you got ubisoft apologizing, bending over backwards and committing seppuku as if it has been dishonored because, get this, a woman had a child in assassin creed and that piss off the lgtbtqia+ brigade.

So excuse me but i will be pissed if they gave a damn about some sjw that got offended over a dlc story but a company is going exclusivity deal on us with a horrible launcher and company. But thats ok i guess, it will only take a few minutes to download the launcher made an account, go through all the hurdles of getting the appropriate authentication, paying up and having yet another launcher on your pc and accounts you need to log in….which is no trouble for us. But spending time and money and delaying the next dlc to re write story and change cutscenes in assassin creed while committing seppuku and apologizing to those who are offended for the damage they caused…thats reasonable, that makes sense, bend over backwards to 000.1% because the gaming media are with em and screw over the 99.9% because they are just a bunch of 30 year old nerds or whatever, its not like they are the ones who support you, nah..screw that appease one purple haired lesbian who got offended and sell out to epic of all people.

You should write for kotaku and polygon

  6. I thought so…Doesn’t matter they don’t mean this, the important thing is they released a statement about it, and i think everyone appreciates it.

  7. This is just DS and Kotch trying to salvage 4As rep cause consumers cant do anything about publishers but we can boycott devs.

  8. Piss off. We don’t need your shyte. You hurt your loyal fan and alos threaten
PC gamers. Didn’t you guys learned anything from EA, Bethesda,
    Activation?

  9. C’mon bro! Let’s go talk about EA and ACTIVISION for a bit….. hell, we’ll even through a Bethesda in…. What do you say buddy?

  10. I like Metro series and i will buy it on steam year later only thing i am boycoting is exclusivity on Epic store because i don´t want this to be future of PC gaming. I want freedom to choose where i buy games.

  11. They are trying to deflect our discontent from the developement company to the owner/publisher. Telling us to go protest to Koch Media, where it will be the most inefficient. Why should we go mumble to the deaf year of the publisher, while continuing to buy the game and not change anything in the process?
Hit them where it hurts. In the wallet!
I would rather NOT have a next Metro game than have to deal with PC platform exclusives! Let’s say no to the silly console exclusive model coming to the world of pc gaming.

  12. This is not because of 4A its because of koch media. If you dont buy the game the studio might close down, but epic store is still anything but epic.

I am in no rush buying this game due to not being a huge fan of the franchise, epic and denuvo. Also there are other post apocalyptic games outhere.

  13. I’m a free market guy and have no issues with a company doing what they feel they need to in order to secure their future BUT in cases like these you reap what you sow. Like when these companies agree to get bought out by publishers like EA for financial security but lose their creative freedoms which usually leads to lower quality product which ends in the closure of said companies.

But, if you want to shake hands with the Devil because of the potential rewards, I’ll fight for your freedom to do so, but don’t think there aren’t long-term consequences.

  14. “hurt and disappointment of a passionate individual who has seen what was previously nothing but positive goodwill towards his work”

    such F A G G O T R Y

are you sure this is the same Ukrainian developers who developed Metro Last light in subzero temperature?

or is it a new studio full of soyboys?

    1. Jesus.

      Are you serious ?

All hope is lost, hope that dev doesn’t give a sh*t what online gaming community thinks, atleast not the DSOGaming community. LMAO.

  15. May be its time for Valve to give more profit to the publishers/developers. if Epic can run business with 12% profit then why Valve cannot?

    1. Your are the consumers not your problem, considering how much steam has to offer and how much epic store is pretty simple, not to mention epic store being an actual chinese malware

    2. Because the rest of that % comes from the consumer. Epic is publisher/developer friendly but anti consumer. You can look at the opt-in review system that epic is going to implement.

    3. study marketing 4p to understand why. this price is the only way they can get a market share and they WILL increase it as they gain more. it is all an old school business model, you nerds are just too dumb/ignorant/uneducated.

  16. Lot of words to say “not my fault” like a child. The decision may have been the publisher but it is you who chose to work with these publishers so it is on you. This employee may not be saying something that reflects your views as a company but he is your employee and on that public forum has a giant 4A logo by his name so maybe you should be firing him or giving him some kind of disipline if he isn’t representing your values. In any case it is on 4A just as much as the publishers no matter how much they want to act innocent.

  17. Unfortunately irreversible damage has already been done. The sad thing is that before all this controversy started happening PC gamers were proclaiming 4A games as the the next CD Projekt RED level developer and were anticipating Metro Exodus as being a similar breakout success as The Witcher 3 was for CD Projekt RED. I will admit I teared up a few times after watching the passion of 4A developers in a few making of trailers. How quickly things have changed for the worst for everyone involved is simply depressing to say the least.

    1. “PC gamers were proclaiming 4A games as the the next CD Projekt RED level developer”

and it was until koch media bought em and is turning them into ea.

        1. It is if we are speaking about games only, they have really few games an witcher 1 and 2 were, gameplay wise, awful, and Witcher 3, gameplay wise, is just ok. But if we talk about policies, how they made GOG, their approach to customers, the attention to details in their product, the value for money, is not overrated at all, you can watch a documentary on youtube how they built GOG, how passionate they were to bring classic games to PC again with a lot of goodies, is pretty amazing and respectful.

          1. I wouldn’t say they’re trash, they definitely have a lot of work behind them and the lore (admittedly not CD Project RED’s work) is really fantastic. But the witcher games kind of lose my interest after a few hours. I’m not a huge fan of the color pallet it utilizes either.

That said, Cyberpunk 2077 may change my mind completely.

          2. i liked witcher 2, it a had a good and meaty combat with weighty sound design, the music was great too but witcher 3 does not have a single good thing in my book. i had more fun playing sniper ghost warrior 3 than witcher 3. witcher 3’s combat system would still feel repetitive and serviceable at best to me even if i didn’t hate dark souls combat mechanic more than anything else in my whole gaming life.

          3. Ya I wasn’t crazy about the combat system either. Ballerina spinning with a sword just didn’t do it for me. TBH I would rather more of a Dark Souls combat style.

          4. you ruined it. i fcking hate dark souls so much that i don’t think i ever hated anything in my life like i hate dark souls combat system before.

          1. It’s the best we’ve got sure, but lets not pretend it’s perfect – especially once entities reach the top and need to continue growth but already dominate the markets – thats where consumers get scammed like with the EAs and Microsofts in the world. I am 100% supportive of paying companies that work hard and earn their money by providing top quality products – something we used to take pride in. I dont provide handouts for cheap products or price gouged microtransaction garbage (the greed side of the industry) all pitched through false promises and flashy marketing. In those cases it does enable greed.

        1. Yeah scuzzy as it may be, go live in China for a few years and I guarantee you’ll be begging to come home to capitalism.
Ive lived there and coming home was magic.

    2. Dude, why are you so emotional about this stuff? Its really strange.

“Teared up”, “depressing to say the least”?

Are you serious? Do you tear up if you see rain in the forecast too?

      1. This is a gaming site for gaming enthusiasts. If you are indifferent to what happens in the industry then these comment sections may not be for you because it is filled with lots of passionate opinions re gaming from many sides.

      2. Some people care about things. Don’t try to marginalize their experience just because you’re a piece of trash.

        1. judging by his state of mind I’m the farthest thing from a piece of trash for trying to help him acknowledge it.

          1. No .Youre definitely a worthless piece of trash troll with nothing to do in life except devalue the things other people care about and try to shame them just to fill your empty pathetic void of a life.

        2. Your grilled cheese is ready, just how you like it, american cheese on wonder white, not too brown, crusts cut off, triangle cut.

    3. Yup. My dream is that these companies spread gameplay footage over social media and their youtube channels and self-publish the games on their own websites. Weed out “launchers” and all the other publishing middlemen in the process.

Knowing us, we would jump at the opportunity to support great studios this way.

    4. Yeah, how sad that online PC gamers are idiots and lose their sh*t over a benign comment by a developer and take it completely out of context.

Damage has been done, next time developers need to make comments only after sending it through PR department. They need to remember majority of online gamers are dumbf**ks. 😀

      1. The damage was done long before this developer made any comments. The damage was done when the publisher decided to ignore the wishes of the majority of pc gamers and make the game an Epic exclusive.

      2. There was nothing benign about his comment at all.

Despite the poorly Google translated English of the comment, the entire comment was him complaining about while edifying development until the end, where he very clearly said “if you behave this way then future metro games will skip PC.” I have the comment I posted a pic of it to FB.

  18. F*** off. We don’t need your sh*t. You hurt your loyal fan and alos threaten PC gamers. Didn’t you guys learned anything from EA, Bethesda, Activation?

    1. Oh you poor thing, yeah that BAD DEV he THREATEN THE PC GAME.

Yeah, it’s just such a pity people can’t f*king read and don’t have comprehension skills.

Next time that dev should send statements through PR department, because that’s the only way to make sure gamer dumbf*ks don’t lose their sh*t over benign comments.

  19. Duck off. We don’t need your sh*t. You hurt your loyal fan and alos threaten
PC gamers. Didn’t you guys learned anything from EA, Bethesda,
    Activation?

  20. All I want to see if the sales figures of Metro Exodus, let that do the talking but no doubt the publishers will spin it. They will double down on their decision to make it Epic Store Exclusive and defend tooth and nail because it benefits the publisher only.

  21. well lets be frank 4A games truly did their best with this game, but koch media/deep silver stupid moves will hurt this game sadly

  22. I want to see them investing that little bit of extra revenue on their games when there’s no one to buy it on Epic.

I’ll wait for it to come out on steam, I’m not desperate, aftet all, Ive waited ten years for DMC5.

  23. That ***ch of a developer is not a “PC” developer! People like those don’t deserve to be “PC” developers because they do not understand PC gamers!
This is pathetic…”hurt of a passionate individual” GTFO!
If true, I can understand and empathize with 4A Games/Deep Silver…their hands being tied when parent company makes business decisions with them having no say in it…has happened many times in the past and has made or broken good developers.

  24. Wow, they are still the victim in all this it seems. They really show no contrite. These people are a piece of work. Well they’re gonna learn today. What a delusional bunch of people.

    1. Lmao dumbass you honestly think a bunch of small devs do these decisions ? just goes to show that you guys in these comments are clueless as ever

      1. i think the Ukranian team stayed there to develop the tools
        (graphics, engine, assets, physics etc…)
while the team in malta worked on superficial stuff like story, voice acting
        level-design etc…

  25. Too little, too late. Irreversible damage has already been done.

I see that a reputable key vendor has already slashed the price of the Epic Store version of Metro Exodus by a whopping 22%. Sales numbers seemingly not going well? Who’d have thunk it.

    1. Really, which vendor is that? Because i seen the exact opposite.
I paid 46$ for a key on cdkeys [which is one of the bigger re-sellers] 2 months ago, no its 51.49$!
Thats for regualr edition, Gold goes for 84.49$

      1. Right, because 2 months ago it was a Steam key, where regional pricing was a thing. Now it’s an Epic key which costs much more (for pretty much everyone except Americans). The difference has to be measured after it turned out that the keys in question would be Epic keys, not before.

        1. Its exactly the opposite for the Majority, if you go to steamdb and look at RE2re pricing [the latest AAA game], you’ll see that 18 countries pay more then 60USD Americans pay up to 78USD top price, imagine that 78USD for a game.
Now If we take the new 50USD and count every country that paid more then 50USD for RE2re, the price will be cheaper for 31 countries a OVERWHELMING majority and it will be more expensive for just 10 countries.
So from this move 31 countries pay less and only 10 countries pay more. I dont see no reason to complain and the people in countries hat paid less are honestly not that important since they paid just a little for a game, all the rest that paid full price are in the win and they are the ones that paid more money.

        1. Thats exactly the one I ordered from and the price went up not down. I paid 46.19$ for regualr edition on December 24/2018, current price is 51.49$ for the regualr version and 84.49$ for Gold.

          1. Said site may charge different prices in different countries then. Or maybe not because the current price shown to me, when converted to USD at current exchange rates, is $51.

    2. Irreversible damage been done because gamers are dumb.

BAD 4A DEV you could really see in that post how he THREATENED the future of the Metro franchise on PC.

  26. Indeed. There’s a growing stench of desperation with their PR responses.

Perhaps the only winners to have come out of this sorry saga so far are Bethesda and EA DICE because the drama has taken the spotlight from Fallout 76 and Battlefield V.

Future winners will of course include cpy, codex, fitgirl, etc.

    1. It really does seem like Metro Exodus and Deep Silver will get the title of “the rankest dumpster fire of a game” from the previous title holder – Fallout 76.

      1. No Fallout 76 will still hold that. This issue is where can the game be gotten, Fallout 76 is available everywhere and is a dumpster fire everywhere. I’m a console user and I’m keeping my preorder of Metro Exodus because I like the games and this doesn’t affect me. I want another Metro game and the game making sales will help ensure the developer can make it.

  27. “We respectfully ask that any and all valid feedback over this decision is directed at Koch Media / Deep Silver”

Due to the inclusion of that key word “valid” they’re consequently implying that they’re only willing to consider consumer feedback in the event they deem it to be valid.

They purport to be “respectfully” inviting feedback and yet at the same time they implicitly communicate their outright disrespect for the consumer because our feedback isn’t “valid” if it doesn’t conform to unspecified and therefore arbitary criteria determined by them.

So, in their latest desperate attempt at PR damage limitation they’ve actually made matters slightly worse for themselves by having provided us some further negative insight to how they view the consumer. Attempted PR damage limitation that makes matters worse. D’oh!

    1. I’ve seen a lot of hyperbolic feedback that I wouldn’t deem valid. Saw a review bomb that was a pair of middle fingers in ASCII with the words epic store between them. I wouldn’t call that valid feedback.

        1. And we call those people – idiots

Review bombing is not ‘valid’ feedback, and it’s sh**ty the vast majority of the time.

          1. “We” do no such thing. ‘You’ might, though.

Thanks again for your latest opinion-stated-as-fact judgement. It seems you’d fit in perfectly over at PC Gamer with those kind of opinions and attitudes.

          2. lol what ? xD

all that because I said “we” ?

Should I also preface all statements with “Please remember this is my opinion and not an objective fact, just in case you don’t understand that for some reason”

    2. Really reaching for the stars with that one. What a stretch. The amount of mental gymnastics spurred by a single word ‘valid’, is quite something.

  28. This decision has been very good news for the pc industry. Steam needs competition. This is just the natural irrational growing pains gamers needs to go through so they can grow up. I hope more pc games became exclusive to epic store. As of right now valve has a monopoly

    1. Pretty sure nobody is complaining about competition, and are complaining about the exact opposite. Being able to buy something in one place, OR the other, and not both? Well, that’s not competition.

The fact you “think this decision has been very good news for the pc industry”? Is downright hilarious.

How simple are people these days?

      1. That is competition, companies have to play dirty. How do you think nvidia won over gamers mind share? Ex,. exclusive features such as physx/gameworks and now we have rtx. Or when crisis 2 completely gimped radeon gpus

In fact why do you think we even have exclusive games in the first place? Ex microsoft/Sony exclusives. You are retarded, you don’t understand business.

Dont worry though in 30 days you will be less butt hurt over this and it will be old news. /gamer outrage is hilarious

        1. You’re joking right? PhysX, Gameworks and RTX are features that NVIDIA HAS PAID TO DEVELOP. Did Epic fund or develop Metro? Nope, they just paid the publishers to remove the finished game from other platforms.

          1. Did Epic fund or develop metro? well maybe? Do you know the deal? Money was definitely involved. This is a deal between the publisher and Epic, the publisher fronted the money so maybe they are getting some of that back. How do you know? Show me the contract

    2. Slap my face internet tough guy.

Since you are too low iq to understand why this is a great decision in the long run

        1. Let’s be fair about this analysis. Epic games are positioning themselves as a competitor to steam. So yeah, for them to compete with steam there needs to be another launcher, that’s obvious. Whereas origin and uplay are not competing directly with steam.

Also its dishonest to assume all games will, Require their own separate launcher. Every single puplisher has a right to have their own launcher. We have origin, uplay, bethsada game launcher and battle net. not every game, stop being retarded.

          1. Competitor with chinese backing from a company that is known to accumulate user data and sell them to third parties is not that awesome in my book tho.

Also i am not too fond of Steam myself, they became very greedy in recent years. However as people pointed out, it’s always better when you can choose where to buy from.

What Epic does is using kids Fortnite money to buy exclusives forcefully. Combine that with afformentioned distrust and I don’t see Epic to be such a great thing.

          4. I did a google search and I was unaware that 40 percent of Epics shares are owned by Tencent. Not going to lie, that is a bit alarming.

Steam is probably the reason valve has stopped making games. Probably the reason why we have no follow up to left 4 dead and half life.

The whole buying exclusives in my opinion is competition and fair game. Microsoft does it, Sony has done it back during the ps3 vs 360 days. Nvidia has done worse to AMD. It sucks but this is how things work.

          5. Wow. I respect your opinion. Out of all the reasons why not to support the epic store and by extension Epic Games, them being in control by a Chinese corporation/maybe the government(corruption), is the best reason I have heard.

      1. “Since History Proof” – WTF HAHAHA “History Proof” Okay internet tough guy, go back to school! What does The Witcher 3 have to do with this conversation. How does The Witcher 3 being multi platform help another platform get ahead over the others? Please explain how Metro Exodus not being exclusive to the Epic Store, help Epic store gain market share over steam? It doesn’t, re**rd.

I don’t give a damn about your 6 countries. In fact Metro was listed on steam at 60 dollars prior to the removal. On Epic store its 50 dollars. Can you do the math or should I do that for you. That’s competition baby to bad for you

  29. “Then why didn’t he complained about it to his boss at Deep Silver/Koch Media instead of trying to somehow shift the blame and threaten customers?”

Why didn’t he go to PR instead of expressing his feelings on a forum ?

    “threaten customers”

lmao. I sincerely hope DSOGaming community don’t represent thinking skills of most PC gamers.

  30. the company comes out and says this i not how we feel as a whole and pc gamers till tell them to f off. to be honest pc gamers, go back to port begging. it’s what you’re best at, b**ching.

  31. the company comes out and says this is not how we feel as a whole and pc gamers still tell them to f off. to be honest pc gamers, go back to port begging. it’s what you’re best at, b!tching.

  32. Before you whine and screech here is something to think about.

Lets go to steamdb dot info and look at the latest AAA game [RE2re] price, because of IDIOTIC steam regional price 18 countries paid more then 60USD for a game, up to 78USD the highest.

Now lets take new unified price of 50$ and count every country that paid MORE then 50$ and LESS then 50$.

We have 31 countries that paid more then 50$ and now going to pay 50$
And 10 countries that paid less then 50$ but now have to pay 50$

This Epic Store deal has MUCH better price for the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY.
And all the people that paid 10-20$ for game are economically unimportant, if they buy this game or dont buy this game they dont bring any money to the company, whats important is that all the people that paid more then 50USD and especially the 18 countries that paid more then 60$ going to pay MUCH less.

This is basic economy, more people pay less, more games sold.

  33. DAYONE on PC for me

I want to play a game called Metro exodus, not a single platform(steam, origins, Uplay or epic).

  34. I figured that guy was just some fool with a big mouth and he didn’t have any business making those comments.

Exodus will probably sell millions of copies on PC eventually. They will make plenty of money from us. They will just have to wait until it gets to Steam for some of us.
