Shenmue 3 has also been delayed to 2019

Following the delay of Metro Exodus, Deep Silver has also announced that Shenmue 3 will now target a 2019 release. According to the publisher, this extra time will give the development team enough time to further polish the game.

As Deep Silver announced via the game’s official website.

“Deep Silver today announce that their upcoming release Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019.

The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe.”

Shenmue 3 is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and is in development at Yu Suzuki’s independent company, Ys Net, located in Tokyo along with many original Shenmue team members. The game has been under development for more than three years as it was officially revealed at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference.

Shenmue fans will at least be able to play the first two games in 2018 as SEGA will re-release Shenmue 1 and 2 for modern-day platforms (including the PC).

  1. jesus christ, is this because of the fiscal year financial bull$hit?
seriously though, why does a kikestarter game need a publisher? it was literally crowd funded
by naive plebs, something tells me this game is gonna end up EXACTLY like mighty number 9 (also published by deep $ilver)

    1. A publisher can provide additional funding, which likely resulted in the delay (as now they can make a larger, more complete, or just better published game). A publisher can also meddle, forcing in loot boxes and junk…so they could be doing something like that.

In the end, games get delayed for many reason. Considering the Kickstarter beginnings, there probably aren’t many investors to please by pushing the game into a certain quarter.

    2. in KCD case it was once again Deep Shillver decision to release it on Feb the 13
but the fans (on plebbit that is) said that’ed rather play the game with it’s flaws
      than wait a couple months

it’s strange because the game was crowdfunded and deep Silver was just the logisitical support for the game, but after they dumped a few millions into the project, they sudden had powers to decide what’s “best for the game” and release it broken

Kikestarter is a double edged sword nowadays, but honestly KCD turned out just fine after a few patches (though it’s missing some promised content, the game is still a 9/10)

as for Sega, the whole Shenmue 3 felt like a scam to me so my guess they don’t want to be associated with it (if the game tanks like Mighty no 9)

    The release will release?
