Last month, we informed you about the rumoured presence of Cyberpunk 2077 at this year’s E3. And from the looks of it, CD Projekt RED will follow its “The Witcher 3” E3 recipe. According to Everyeye’s editor, Francesco Fossetti, CD Projekt RED is currently sending invitations to the press for an one hour presentation at E3 2018.

Our guess is that CD Projekt RED will release a public gameplay trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 during one of the big two conferences (Sony or Microsoft) and will then showcase the game behind closed-doors. That closed-doors demo will then be shown to the public at a later date (perhaps during Gamescom).
Since we have not received any invitation yet (and even if we did, we wouldn’t be revealing it), we strongly suggest taking this with a grain of salt. However, this is the most likely E3 scenario for Cyberpunk 2077.
Stay tuned for more!

I would say that they’re doing this behind closed doors to avoid any accusations of downgrading later on but if they plan to release it to the public a few months later anyway then why are they being so secretive?

maybe they’ve got a patent up their sleeves and they don’t want any peeping toms and copycats stealing their idea.
Yeah Because RDR2 will be a complete new game…
I dont get it, do you really think they are going to speak about the technical part of the game to the press, so like in game technology? Even VR tech presentations were open, so if we are speaking of copying technology, I dont think Cyberpunk isnt gonna be something special or RDR2. I think this is much simpler than we think, special treatment to the Press…
oh sh*t i missed that one.
It just sounds to me like a behind closed doors “vertical slice”. Either way they sound like they are going to have a version tuned for closed door pressers to cover.
To be fair, it could equally be a demonstration to the media of work-in-progress gameplay mechanics and/or the basics of how the game-world will function, i.e not even an alpha build. If so, then it’ll be lacking the kind of polish CDPR probably feel comfortable in showing off publicly at this point.
I wouldn’t blame CDPR for that because so many of the increasingly woeful big name gaming sites and indeed the console gamers that CDPR now target are quick to leap to instant judgements without much care for the full facts.
Even if they are quick to leap, we are more direct and will keep it going, even years after it’s release.
Console gamers are quick to forget downgrades, but PC gamers aren’t. I don’t want another 5+ years ride of remembering that they downgraded another game that had already been years into development.
In the case of TW3 it’s not been as easy as usual for the console crowd to ignore downgrades because CDPR are still actively downgrading the console version of the game with its patches. They previously downgraded aspects of the console version several months after release to have it running less abysmally on PS4 and they also very recently did the same thing with the ‘enhancement’ update for Xbone X which gimped draw distances, among other things, to help frame-rates. Heck, it took them 6 months to remove the double-buffered v-sync from the PS4 version which had the frame-rate lock to a hilariously poor 20fps whenever it dipped below its targeted 30fps limit!
Meanwhile, the PC version goes from strength to strength by way of the wonderful modding community… despite CDPR having gimped the game’s modding suite relative to REDkit for TW2.
There is no doubt in my mind they did not release a full mod kit for Red Engine 3 because they were 100% scared modders would make the game look like 2013 E3 or better(like it should have and could have if not for console parody and weak hardware!!!). Some of that stems from their Microsoft Xbox partnership. If you take witcher 2 in 2k and up, plus max all/most settings it still looks awesome. It looks great in 3d too!!! Witcher 3 looks good as well, but I never got that same feeling I did the first time I saw Flotsam and it’s surrounding areas. All hand crafted instead of the “Speed Tree” garbage we got with W3. Man I have waited for that feeling since W2 and Flotsam. It felt so real and authentic of what a village would be like back then in a Dark Fantasy setting.
Who knows what the truth of the matter is. Rather than it being a conspiracy I tend to believe it more likely that the increasingly console-centric CDPR simply no longer care about PC as much as they once did. So it simply wasn’t a priority to them to service the PC community to the same high standard they once did with TW2 (REDkit and the release of an Enhanced Edition).
You grossly overestimate how many people give a crap about graphics downgrade from E3 presentation to final game. Maybe a vocal few that represent <0.1% of sales.
You’ve grossly misread his comment while also having pulled that made-up figure from where the sun don’t shine.
Insert crowbat watchdogs video here.
LOL, another Uncharted fanboy…
Uncharted! The Last of Us! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Sure thing, keep telling yourself that.
Hopefully we all get to see at least 10 minutes of that footage.
at least 60′ if we’re lucky
Apparently not for a few more months though until CDPR releases it to the public. I noticed John said he wouldn’t reveal it if he were invited. Probably the people that will attend the closed door viewing will have to sign an NDA and agree not to talk about what they saw without CDPR permission.
In other words we probably won’t get anything worthwhile until CDPR says it’s ok.
As per rumors, we might an Hour long of gameplay footage.
Ohhh god, just show the gameplay and move on, the more it goes the more clusterf$$k it gets
I hate this behind closed doors B.S. Hopefully someone will leak it out for us.
They have their reasons for killing your hype…
pcgamers are really forgiving. they still praised the once PC only developer that make witcher PC exclusive and later released it to consoles. they also forgotten how they dumbed down the graphics and also succumb to casuals by toning down the settings like torture scene. if you compare phillipa torture in witcher 2 with any torture scene in witcher 3, you will greatly be disappointed. compare the love scene in witcher 2 in elven ruins with love scene in witcher 3.. witcher 3 is a joke. also PC gamers you dont have HDR like console gamers have lol. so go keep praising your false prophet
“witcher 3 is a joke”
Sure thing buddy, sure thing. I guess you prefer witcher 2 with the awful combat, extremely linear enviroments, horrible sidequests animations and shadows that was held back by consoles due to low ram so every area is build like a corridor to help with streaming.
” PC gamers you dont have HDR like console gamers have lol. ”
Do you even know what HDR is?
I agree with you but W2’s combat was better than W3’s batman solution to combat
id argue the first witcher had the best combat if we gonna go full scare rpg instead of action rpg.
Wow. I cant stop companies for releasing their games on PC. But as they keep the quality on their PC ports I cant care less.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhh… HDR is available on PC.
Prepare the micro cameras to leak this out
DUDE, we dont even know what the game looks or plays like and you telling me you will hold on until months later?
oh, another dev/publisher giving free stuff and special treatment to get good press and reviews. it should be illegal.
#gamergate
I just don’t see the point to this closed door viewing at all. Gamers that have been around for a while and seen some of the sh*t pulled by Publishers are going to be suspicious anyway of what a game site editor has to say about what they saw and that’s assuming they are allowed to say anything at all. Maybe the whole point is just to try to create some future goodwill with editors.
Welcome to the internet!
Game journalist are irrelevant at this point, anything they promote flops, everything youtubers play get sales. They still are butt hurt at the sucess of fc5 which they hated. As for gamergate, looking at what Jason “objectivity is a silly thing to strive for” Schreier posted recently on twitter, its clear that gamergate has been living inside their heads since 2014…RENT FREE!!
They could stat that and then let us know what those are at time of release!
You’re misusing the term “patent”. If they patented things then they wouldn’t have to worry about anyone “stealing” them. The law would protect the new idea and anyone who uses it after Cyberpunk would be sued out of business. The whole point of patents is to make it illegal to copy an idea. But with the exception of brand names (fair imo) one of the great aspects of the video games industry is that unlike other software industries nobody is waging patent wars. Everyone acknowledges that gameplay and even programming ideas are never unique or original so live and let live. Imagine EA and Activision and Ubisoft in constant patent wars and fewer and fewer gameplay features or graphical tricks being available to everyone. Games are stale enough as it is.
Gameplay huh? That means they got something to show.
You know when I look back at E3 demo of witcher 3 I see not only the graphics but the whole UI as well as some of the animations that were downgraded or changed in the final release.
So I hope this time they don’t go that same route that they went with witcher 3 and actually show us the gameplay that would resemble the final build as close as possible.
And here’s another hopeful wish, instead of shoving that Nvidia crapworks just to please PC gamers, this time cdpr actually take pc version seriously. Also don’t hold it back just because of console parity.
The game will likely be held back in one way or another for consoles. Don’t forget, this is the same studio that praised PC gaming for some years, but turned around so quickly to mutter “W3 wouldn’t have been possible without consoles”, ignoring crowd funding and all the other ways of getting a game published out there.
trash studio, trash games.
he is trolling but you have pretty much blocked everyone at this point.
low iq
Your comment is not even worth downvoting.
Just want to announce, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is out
Hopefuly they have a better solution to combat than Witcher 3’s.
ehmmm its a shooter sooooo yeah, UNLESS THEY GO BULLETSPONGY LIKE FALLOUT 4 AND BORDERLANDS, PLEASE DONT.
do we know for a fact its a shooter? it could be turn based ala xcom.
I remember reading you can play it first person or third person
Kindly stop with the insults. How is this a clickbait article though ?
The website “pushsquare” has also published an article on this, despite this being a rumour.
Francesco Fossetti actually posted this on his official Facebook page, and it was also brought up a member of “Resetera” forums.
A cursory glance at said person’s post history shows him to have similarly insulted the site owner a further TEN times within the past month or so. The guy clearly has ‘issues’!
Yup, I’ve been observing his/her behavior since I first came to know about this website DSOG.
At first, I thought he/she is just having some fun, but nope. He kept on repeating the same thing again and again, crossing the line sometimes.
TEN comments seems very less. It’s even more than that.
I guess “John” doesn’t take any action, because I think last year, DSOG readers have voted for some “Unrestrained policy”, or something like that ?
Not sure though.
I can’t recall that article, but it gave proper freedom to all the users out here to insult/mock each other, and/or ridicule someone.
Though, I don’t think it gave any right to a forum member to insult and/or pass derogatory remarks to the site’s owner.
I think even KKW used to do that ?
You are referring to this -> https://www.dsogaming.com/editorial/editorial-you-can-determine-dsogamings-comment-section-policy/
And yeap, we won’t ban anyone as the readers chose the unrestrained policy. You can block annoying users via Disqus though.
Yes, that’s the one. But WHY allow such voting/polling system, especially giving the first choice ?
I know it’s the decision of the entire DSOG staff/moderators, but I think you are being TOO lenient, in my opinion.
Though, this specific line “Our readers can comment about anything they want”, doesn’t actually imply the users can also mock/insult the site’s Admin/MOD which is you, and others ?
Just my thoughts.
Btw, I respect the work you are doing here. Keep posting more news on old-school fps mods, and other indie FPS titles. Cheers !
Look at what happened though? People mostly keep to the subject. When no one is censoring you, you dont feel like you “need” to talk about something so in the end free speech, works.
Agreed. Trolls like ‘Bob’ (not Bub&Bob!) are easily ignored. Replying to him is to feed the troll by giving him the attention he so desperately craves.
Yep, I don’t doubt the possibility of there being even more such infantile insults to the site to the site owner if looking back further in his post history.
As for that other matter then that’s a can of worms I won’t be opening.
so people don’t call it downgraded like w3
Best way to keep the hype about a game? Make private showcases…
Well, considering that the project has been in development he11 since, what 2012? I wouldnt expect much.
What? Do you know what development hell is? CDPR was focusing mostly on W3 first before dedicating all their time to Cyberpunk.
Mate yongyea has mde videos about this, the project was scrapped multiple times over and started from scratch with different heads and leads of each area of the game’s development.
That doesn’t necessarily mean development hell though. Just sounds like the normal process of game development. Think about it like this. They focused their efforts on Witcher 3 so once that was done they moved on to Cyberpunk. They won’t have a perfect idea just yet, it would need to go through multiple revisions until they get that ideal vision down.
Memes, made for the lazy…
Indeed. It’s one of the site’s finest qualities. A refreshing change from the unquestioning easily pleased console peasantry who react like clapping seals to whatever hyperbole is served up to them by sites that depend on the advertising dollars of games publishers for their continued existence.
DSOG and its members take a more pro-consumer stance which is the polar opposite of the big name gaming sites that are essentially marketing mouthpieces for the games industry.
this website is an extremely small vocal minority though.
Not really it mirrors everything posted in pc master reddit and tb’s videos.
This is BS…
In any case, I have faith that the day we get to see a preview build…it will blow our minds!
In the case of TW3 it’s not been as easy as usual for the console crowd to ignore downgrades because CDPR are still actively downgrading the console version of the game with its patches. They previously downgraded aspects of the console version several months after release to have it running less abysmally on PS4 and they also very recently did the same thing with the ‘enhancement’ update for Xbone X which gimped draw distances, among other things, to help frame-rates
Well, considering that the project has been in development he11 since, what 2012? I wouldnt expect much.
it’s pre alpha gameplay, it’s gonna look like $hit 100%
so i’m not suprised they’re doing this
but what i AM concerned is what direction will the gameplay take..
will it simply copy a hack&slash formula from witcher 3, with Cyberpowers instead of Signs?
i’ve already read somewhere the game will feature melee combat, so maybe they just
want to avoid criticism incase they DO copy their formula into cyberpunk format
How was that a statistic? I said “maybe” which clearly indicates that’s just my impression and what I personally believe the numbers would be since the game was very successful despite the downgrade outcry, I never pretended it was statistically accurate.
Just because a game sells well does not relate to the feelings of the people purchasing the game feeling duped because the game has been visually downgraded… I think you are grossly underestimating the amount of people who feel bait and switch practices are bogus. I purchased The Witcher 3 and loved the game. That has nothing to so with the FACT that I felt lied too by the developers based on the footage they showed and passed off as “actual gameplay”… Same goes for Dark Souls 2 and Watchdogs…
That being said I think the practice of showing gameplay footage that is far better than the actual final product is (hopefully) over. Game studios have gotten too much bad press over it and I would think that whatever footage CD Projekt RED shows will be legit.
