Endnight Games announced that its open-world survival horror game, The Forest, will leave Early Access and will be fully released on April 30th. Players will enter a living, breathing world, where every tree and plant can be chopped down.
The Forest promises to feature a living, breathing forest with changing weather patterns, plants that grow and die, with a vast network of caves and underground lakes that are available for exploration.
The game is powered by Unity 5 Engine and supports physical based rendering, bendable plants, sub surface scattering for plant shaders, as well as new and more detailed tree models than its first version, new skin shaders, a new billboarding system and an ocean shader.
Back in February, Endnight Games revealed the following features that will be present in final version of the game.
“Languages and controller support will be improved and officially supported. We’re going to be adding new reasons and resources for killing the creepies. There will be a rethinking of the cold and warmth system, including a new warm suit. New buildables will be added. There will be some big performance optimizations especially for late game saves. Changes and improvements to how multiplayer save games work and along with this a bunch of dedicated server improvements. The multiplayer clothing system is being improved and expanded, with a new system to allow you to switch outfits. We’ll also give some details about a VR game mode when we are closer to release. Along with a bunch more we don’t have room to include here, we have some really crazy and fun surprises in store, especially regarding the ending and are really excited to see what people think.”

When a “survival” game leaves an Early Access it doesn’t mean it ended up being a complete game. It means it ended.
Ye but this is one of the good ones. Even have a story to it.
Well it’s not just mindless surival. Really it’s much more about exploration of the island, trying to figure out what is going on and finding your son, you just need to survive long enough to do that. You are not trying to build some huge base more so just some shelter in which you can survive the night. Be it some structure or just slaughter field filled with traps to fight off mutants.
Crafting never really needs insane amount of materials.
Game is pretty damn creepy. It really feels like you in some kind of splatter horror movie. For real most and foremost I would recommend it to people looking for some horror game.
Great graphics, nature looks amazing.
I don’t know man 😀 overall I just really enjoyed playing it even thou it was not even finished (I did finished the story thou). Defi gonna play it again once its out for real.

its not even a survival game anymore they changed it alot.
Other survival games with story, subnautica, starbound, planet explorers and the long dark…not finished. There is also solus project which has survival elements.
VR mode with decent Oculus Touch support would be interesting.
