Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is now available for free on UPLAY until December 18th

After the amazing free giveaway of World in Conflict Complete Edition, Ubisoft is now offering Assassin’s Creed Black Flag for free. From now and until December 18th, PC gamers can log onto UPLAY and acquire their free copy.

This offer will end on December 18th 10:00 AM UTC so make sure to get your free copy from its UPLAY store page while you still can.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag was released in 2013 and had some optimization issues on the PC. Fast forward 4 years and today’s PC systems can brute force those optimization and performance issues.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag features several NVIDIA Technologies: God Rays – which allowed Ubisoft Montreal to paint beams of light that illuminate a scene from above, horizon-based ambient occlusion + (HBAO+) for more detailed and realistic shadows around objects that obstruct rays of light, percentage-closer soft shadows (PCSS) for more lifelike contact hardening shadows, and temporal anti-aliasing (TXAA) for smoother edges. The game also features enhanced 4K textures on the PC.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag tells the story of Edward Kenway, a young British man with a thirst for danger and adventure, who falls from privateering for the Royal Navy into piracy as the war between the major Empires comes to an end.

“Edward is a fierce pirate and seasoned fighter who soon finds himself embroiled in the ancient war between Assassins and Templars. Set at the dawn of the 18th Century, the game features some of the most infamous pirates in history, such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane, and takes players on a journey throughout the West Indies during a turbulent and violent period of time later to become known as the Golden Age of Pirates.”

Have fun!

  1. I gave up AC at AC3. Is Black Flag worth playing?

Either way, I think of Assassin’s Creed as a casualized, less satisfying to play version of Prince of Persia, with its only draw being the historical recreations of past locations… And even that gets old really fast…

    1. It’s a mixed bag. The ship is essentially a second playable character, which is well balanced combat wise & used to journey to all the locations (towns, islands, etc.) in real time giving a great sense of exploration. On-foot combat/stealth however is the worst in the series, being significantly dumbed down in every aspect from AC3.

    2. Honestly the whole pirate thing is actually kinda cool, and the gameplay around that is good too so i guess for free why not ? Its like i been saying with my friends for a while now. AC games would be great games if they were part of the AC franchise and this is a perfect example, the storyline from Edward is cool but when it gets too deep in the Templars and Assassins it loses me quickly.

    3. The movement in PoP Sands of Time and its sequels was a lot more involved than simply holding down one button, all the context-sensitive stuff was actually necessary to pull off the crazy acrobatics that would have been impossible if it controlled like a traditional platformer. Assassin’s Creed is a big blob of nothing that practically plays itself, it’s really about showing you impressive graphics and animations for minimal effort, but also for minimal involvement.

The gameplay demo I saw for the original Assassin’s Creed looked like Hitman in the middle ages (proper Hitman, not Absolution) with some PoP mechanics for moving around, that idea clearly went down the drain somewhere along the way, but man that would have been an awesome game.

Assassin’s Creed turned out to be far too shallow to compare to either Hitman’s assassinations or PoP’s platforming, what a shame.

    4. The naval combat aspect of this game is actually completely worth it, but it’s still very much so that same old Assassin’s Creed. For free, I’d give it a spin.

    5. Black Flag is the best in the series IMO. But then I haven’t played any of the games after it. Its definitely a lot better than III with all the naval exploration and what not.

    6. Ironically, I consider AC3 the best AC game (haven’t played Syndicate or Origins yet). Yeah, Black Flag is a completely different feel from AC3 that apparently most people liked, even though personally I despised it.

  2. Personally, I would love another ACBF since this is my favorite AC game precisely because it didn’t follow the tired formula, is basically a lighthearted pirate sim vs a single city AC taking itself way too seriously resulting in piles of cheese (though this has some too), and has much more “open world” freedom with some nicely crafted visual variety in the Caribbean Islands, tropical towns, and cities. The surrounding tropical water (ahead-of-its-time tech) is great to aimlessly sail around in and get into trouble with shoreline forts, treasure rich ships, or exploring new islands in search for that buried booty!

Before ship upgrades, I used to love sitting back and watching the far more powerful Spanish and English Man-Of-War ships fight it out and after (or close to it) I would attack the weakened winner like the pirate scoundrel I was. Bloody F*cking Pirates!
