Yesterday, Ubisoft released a new update for the PC version of Assassin’s Creed: Origins. As we’ve already reported, this patch introduces annoying stuttering issues on quad-core CPUs; stutters that were not present in the launch version. However, and contrary to various reports, Ubisoft has not downgraded the game’s visuals.
According to some users, the LOD has been reduced, resulting in less than ideal visuals. Since we’ve received numerous emails and comments about it, we’ve decided to compare the vanilla with this latest version. And as you will see, Ubisoft has not altered the LOD settings in any way.
All distant objects, shadows, and effects are present in Assassin’s Creed Origins 1.05. As we’ve reported in our PC Performance Analysis, Assassin’s Creed Origins uses a really aggressive LOD system. That was the case from the beginning and no, Ubisoft did not change anything.
So yeah, this report about the game’s “downgrade-ation” is false. As we’ve already proved, we are among the first ones to call out developers when they do such a thing. However, spreading rumours about such a thing just because it’s Ubisoft is… well… not cool anymore.
Below you can find some comparison screenshots. The left screenshots are from the launch version and the right screenshots are from 1.05.

But Ubisoft is grandfather of downgrades how it can be ? Like they have actually learned from past mistakes ? But still stuttering issues 😉
“Yo dawg, I heard you like Denuvo so we put a Denuvo inside your Denuvo so you can’t play when you play.”
Hmm…
Did you get your hands on a cracked copy with the DRM removed then? Because I don’t recall anyone else being able to demonstrate the measurable effects of the DRM on the game’s CPU performance yet. Maybe you can fill us in and share your findings. I’d do so myself, but I paid for the game and I can’t locate a cracked version yet these days.
The game is performing worse for me, stutters ( while it wasn’t before ) and detailed models are popping in much closer to you that they used to, just like in Unity ( they didn’t used to do so before ). Really distracting…
Much worse, changing resolution simply crashes the game.
No need to run the benchmark ( which probably still uses the exact same settings unlike the game itself ) to see performance and quality are worse with the 1.05 patch.
Look for “Assassin’s Creed Origins 1.05 graphic downgrade (PC) !!!” on Youtube…
They still lied about the gameplay footage at E3 being generated with an Xbox1X. According to digital foundry that was most likely PC footage.
Even the Metro Exodus guy while showing their footage grudgingly admitting their demo was running on PC, he only admitted it after the host pushed on the matter and cracked, didn’t even come straight out with it. They use the PC because it’s the best way to show off their vertical slice code or they use the dev kit, which has more resources at it’s disposal.
The issue with LOD is texture streaming. Game now has the same issue as Unity.
Well, is the latest version of Denuvo with VMProtect on top of it possibly to blame?
If the stuttering wasn’t happening at launch how could it be the fault of Denuvo and VMProtect? The game has had that crap since launch.
That remains to be seen. The game looks noticeably different after patch. It’s hard to tell why but they definitely increased chromatic aberration – it’s extremely obvious now and all the time. Also draw distance seems to be have been reduced but only in certain areas.
Interesting to see they’re breaking the game rather than removing what’s actually killing the performance.
I’ve got a 5GHz 7700K, my CPU usage is almost double compared to other open world games such as Witcher 3, while I’m completely GPU bound in 4K.
No stutters though.
asus mobo right u got to love them
Yeah IX Apex
n1 asus motherboards
Do your test again and use a Predator Bow. The game no longer loads proper textures when the bow sights “zoom”. Sure it looks the same standing idle. That’s not the problem.
” However, spreading rumours about such a thing just because it’s Ubisoft is… well… not cool anymore.”
its not rumors. also why is talking bad about ubi no longer “cool”? are they paying you or something? that would explain why your sucking them off so hard in this article. shill.
God, what are you like 7 years old?
They’re rumors.
Not forgetting that the textures are pin point exactly the same on consoles, as they are on PC. One could see that as a non issue, but are the PC versions of AAA games supposed to be 50/50 to the console versions?.
All I’ve seen this gen are slightly better shadows and slightly better LoD. There are very few games that bother to release higher resolution textures, but even then those are scaled down, and sometimes they only release higher textures for characters, rather than the world environment.
I find it hard pressed to bother going with higher end hw in the future, if the only differences are going to be shadows and low quality LoD.
Not every developer is going to make the PC version have better graphics. Sometimes they go for parity. They do this for many reasons.
They do this for a reason and the reason is money. A Publisher like Ubisoft caters to the console crowd because that’s where their revenue comes from for the most part. Only 18% comes from PC gamers. The lion’s share comes from the console gamers.
And I am aware of said reasons, but that doesn’t always make them good ones either.
Console to PC parity is one of the worst reasons out there.
High qvality graphics of multiplatform aaa titles like this only because these games are for consoles. You must pray for consoles if you want superb graphics on pc. Plus only best multigames can compete with Sonys games in graphics.
There is no praying to be done and no, those graphics aren’t meant for consoles either.
Actually first party titles on other platforms, as well as PC exclusives compete with Sony’s.
Try again.
That’s a hilarious joke. Name one Sony exclusive that has remarkably good graphics in comparison to everything else released around the same time. I’ll wait.
I’m going to assume it’s because most people didn’t have PCs equipped with a lot of vram. The standard now is becoming 4GB sure and a lot of people have more but there’s still quite a bit of people with 2-3GB GPUs out there and they were the majority early this gen. So it wouldn’t really have been profitable to develop games with insane textures. Everyone doesn’t upgrade on a frequent basis.
The standard has been 4gb for years.
I doubt it
Did you get lost on your way to peasantsideofgaming?
There is no gen. It means nothing. Did you think there was going to be some paradigm shift in computer graphics from PS3 to PS4 era? Lel. That hardware was all years outdated in the first place, but even if it was up to date with PC hardware, the graphics would be the same. There’s nowhere to go from here besides ray traced lighting (not going to happen in anyone’s lifetime) – anything else will simply be higher poly models, more realistic animation, better textures, better effects.
Did you notice how Pixar movies literally haven’t changed since 1995? Yea, welcome to graphics.
And, good luck with that. Don’t get high end HW. Have fun not running anything on high or ultra.

Voted for this in the Steam awards, “Worst Console Port”.
John – I for one appreciate what you’ve done with this article. I have no problem complaining about Ubisoft when they do something distasteful, but we can’t just keep basing our present and future information based off of previous feelings and experiences when that information can be readily obtained for ourselves.
It’s sad that you can’t be objective and use sound evidence these days without “sucking someone off” as someone below put it.
Do you have a source about the downgraded graphics?
The whole game is a downgrade compared to Unity and still managed to run worst.
Unity still looks amazing to this day. Nonetheless, its global illumination was baked in unlike Origins where it reacts to the lighting/TOD changes. This is why you only had four TOD preset sfor Unity.
I find Origins to be absolutely gorgeous but I assume its just personal tastes.
No, it’s absolutely gorgeous most of the time.
Game on patch 1.05 is so UGLY ! PLEASE ROLLBACK to 1.03 ;(((
First of all that video is total BS in the first place because there is no possible way anyone is getting that high of a framerate on ultra at 1440p. And the game doesn’t look remotely that crisp.
All I see is a german crying that their 1080ti doesn’t get 102349543298543578953789 fps WITH VSYNC TURNED ON.
70 FPS @ 1140P on Ultra? With a 1080Ti, that is the performance you can expect actually, especially considering the area he is in ( unlike big cities where the framerate tanks ).
You seem to be lost.
