Electronic Arts today announced preliminary financial results for its first fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2017. According to the report, Battlefield 1 had more than 21 million players joining the game as of quarter end, and the monthly active players for The Sims 4 on PC increased more than 20% year-over-year.
Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson said:
“Q1 was an outstanding quarter, with thriving player communities in our top franchises like Battlefield, our EA SPORTS portfolio, Star Wars, and The Sims continuing to grow our network and drive our digital business. We have built strong momentum, and now we are accelerating into a year of tremendous innovation, where extraordinary new games, content-rich live services, and expanding global competitions will deliver more fun for our players and fuel growth for Electronic Arts.”
Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen added:
“We had a great start to the fiscal year, primarily due to our event-driven live services. Our operating cash flow was the highest ever for a first quarter, and underlines how live services have fundamentally transformed our business model. Driven by innovation and live services, we expect to continue to grow our profitability and cash generation.”
Furthermore, EA claimed that its PC sales have increased by 34% compared to last year’s Q1. In Q1 FY2017, the PC platform generated $179 million and in Q1 FY2018, the PC generated $240 million.
Still, these numbers are lower than those of Xbox One and PS4 combined. These two platforms generated $974 million, so it’s safe to say that both of them have – individually – surpassed the PC.

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. EA makes games for console kids so it’s no surprise what the numbers are. “Push X to win”
Yep and PC gamers pirate a majority of their games, this is why consoles will always be the preferred platform. See, I can be stupid just like you.
Consoles are preferred for dumb kids and broke losers. Consoles will be the third largest platform behind mobile and PC… well at least for the next 7-10 years before they’re completed outdated and supplanted by some kind of cloud-based subscription service like Netflix. Then, even poorer, dumber people can join the ranks of their console gamer brethren and don’t have to buy their gaming hardware at the same place they buy their clothes.
Consoles… always winning the bronze medal.
Because of people like you pc gamers have such horrible reputation. Good job.
My words were truth. Political correctness isn’t my forte. Consoles are sh!t.
No, he made a good point, you just retorted with some bullsh*t.
EA, Activision, U-BE-SOFT etc. routinely pander to the lowest common denominator because that’s what they think will generate them the most profits. The “lowest common denominator” in this industry’s case being console kiddies who’s parents ignore the PEGI rating on the box cover, because they can.
And hey, who gives a f*ck when you’re making money.
Sadly, that’s also resulted in the current state of the industry, wherein sh*tty low-grade low-quality games are the norm & actually good, high-quality games are the exception, rather than the rule. Not to mention the cults of sycophantic fanboys ready & waiting to pounce on anyone who calls something “bad” or “generic” or “downgraded” or whatnot.
There’s actually an article on this one site that….. well, the title basically says it all, really; “20 years of Metacritic scores shows a steady decline in 90 and above titles”. The source should be easy enough to find through Google, it’s a good read.
Ah the “downgrade”. I remember someone writing an entire paragraph just to insult me and defend cdpr for calling out on witcher 3 downgrade back in 2015.
Today’s so called “critics” are a joke man. I mean if you are a critics you should objectively criticize something but all i see today are subjective reviews.
“Too hard”- 5/10
“It crashed.” – 4/10
“It’s foreign. I didn’t understand it, but I should give it a good score anyway, just in case!”
“It’s Star Wars….. I have to rate it well.”
You talk about console fanboys without realizing you’re not that different from a fanboy yourself. There’s no such thing as a PC fanboy because there’s no single graphics card or CPU manufacturer but you have the same symptoms of frustration and irrational hatred for other platforms. Just play what you enjoy and stop acting like a child on the internet.

Like it or not, gaming wouldn’t be such a successful industry without consoles and you wouldn’t get so many big budget games without console players also buying them. The PC market alone is not enough to support AAA development. You probably think AAA games are bad but that’s your problem. A lot of us enjoy them.
You will probably say that consoles are holding games back and I will agree with you. But AGAIN. Gaming wouldn’t be profitable enough in the first place to take advantage of new technology without console “peasants” or “kiddies” buying games.
I own a PS4. I’ve owned a PS3, a PS2, a PS1 & an assortment of other consoles. I’ve never told people not to buy any console ever, period, I’ve only ever argued against purchasing specific consoles, like the XONE, because there’s simply so little value to them in terms of exclusives, etc.
I don’t see how that makes me come off as “acting like a child on the internet”, but to each their own, I suppose.
Yes, that’s true, the industry wouldn’t be so big, no, that’s just bullsh*t, the AAA market would still exist without consoles. You see, this delusion is propagated on the basis that “PC = 1-in-3 sales”, except, imagine if GTAV didn’t come to any platform but PC; what, does it just automatically lose 2/3rds of its sales because of that? No. Most of those sales, as a result of its PC exclusivity would have become PC sales, instead of console sales.
Yes, it would still have sold less, overall, in the end, but it would still have been a very profitable endeavour indeed, so the AAA market is fully capable of existing, either in 2007 or in 2017 without consoles, it just chooses not to. I think some AAA’s, on a case-by-case basis, are bad, whereas some are good, some are decent, some are terrible, etc. etc. etc.
They are holding games back. As for the rest, see above.
I destroyed you in my post. Denuvio uncrackable, no sales increase, denuvo cracked, ea has no games, ea made more money from pc
Logic.. there is none, pc piracy is irrelevant.
“The PC market alone is not enough to support AAA development. You probably think AAA games ”
Should it? AA games used to be pretty good back on ps2, what happened to that? Why everything has to be AAA?
Games like far cry and fear were not AAA but AA and it was enough to get them good. No need for AAA.
gtfo braindead console user
Damn, you must be the real console user.
That makes no sense at all seeing that every developer and their mothers want their games on the PC.(or more likely Steam) Heck every game that comes out is on PC/PS4, PC/Xbox, PC/Switch, but PC gets them all. The fact that the PC is the only open platform helps it when a game is exclusive to a certain console, but not the PC.
This is the argument i kept hearing which is why i wished for something like denuvo that is uncrackable to prove that pc piracy is nonsene. Denuvo had alot of time while being uncracked and it proved that sales did not increase. Now all denuvo games are cracked and ea made more money from pc.
Logic? There is none other than pc piracy is irrelevant.
Youre right, that is pretty stupid of you.
All this cash and they still plan to put slot machines into BF2.
Day of Infamy is 100x better
“now we are accelerating into a year of tremendous innovation”
smh
2018???
I was playing regularly until they went to 200 on domination
0.001% was from ME:A
I bought titanfall 2. No regrets.
But thats not fair of course since they dont own respawn which is why EA does not properly promote their games.
Titanfall 2 is an exception because they’re mostly independent
this is moy bad, moy moy bad
PCgamers should avoid EA’s games like the plague, for each EA game you buy
you support SJW’s and pay2win microtransactions (besides titanfall 2)
My library of 70 games on Origin must really suck…they’re so bad. /s
