Bethesda and id Software have released a brand new update for DOOM. According to the release notes, this patch unlocks all multiplayer DLC to everyone. This basically means that all of the DLC maps, weapons, armor sets and demons will be available for all players to enjoy.
Moreover, this update introduces a revised progression system, and a Runes System that replaces the Hack Module System. The revised progression system will alter when and how players unlock additional guns, demons, equipment, and all of the player and weapon customization options. Instead of relying on the random distribution of unlocks, items now unlock through specific levelling requirements or through in-game challenges that the player can complete.
On the other hand, the Runes System enhances player abilities, but can be persistently equipped, which was not possible with the previous system.
It’s also worth noting that Update 6.66 will reset all players’ multiplayer level back to 0, and that a free trial weekend will be launched later today. This free weekend trial will let you play the first two Campaign levels and all of DOOM Multiplayer and SnapMap.
Here are the release notes for DOOM’s Update 6.66:
Multiplayer:
- Fixed an issue where textures appeared to glow on the player’s character.
- Fixed an issue in Multiplayer where players would respawn frozen at the beginning of a Freeze Tag round.
- Fixed an issue in Multiplayer where parts of the player model appeared transparent in some circumstances.
- Fixed an issue where players would disconnect from a match under certain conditions.
- Fixed an issue in Infernal Run where picking up the ball when out of ammo would cause problems with passing or receiving the ball.
- Fixed an issue with the Multiplayer Challenge “Aimbot Hax” where Reaper Longshots would not count towards challenge completion.
- Fixed an issue in Multiplayer with inconsistent power item spawns on Outbreak.
SnapMap:
- Added rotate on XYZ axis to the Grab Object manipulate controls
- Added setting to remove network limitation on single player only maps.
- Resolved various freeze and crash bugs.
- Fixed various matchmaking and lobby issues.
- Fixed visual bugs that result from combining specific HUD elements
- Fixed various freezes and crashes with using Campaign Model.
- Fixed coop crash with Bob and Rotate settings.

- Improved collision issues causing AI to partially fall into blocking volumes set to Block Demons.

Poor guys who thought Bethesda would offer them value for the money they spent on those DLCs, this editor is slowly going to hell.
I’m so glad I didn’t buy the season pass.
More like the Season Piss.
Nobody did.
A separate download for MP would be nice. u.u
No kidding. Shoving this unnecessary MP in our throats by making us download 30 Gb worth of crap is ridiculous. I bought this game for singleplayer and play only SP in DOOM. MP wasn’t even developed by id Software.
As most players I don’t really care about multiplayer so I don’t need to have that portion of the game be forced on me.
Couldn’t care less about snapmap.
With Quake Champions coming who even plays this multiplayer?
Who played the DOOM 2016 MP to begin with is the better question I’d say.
I do.But I am m not a casual or a trendy sheep kind of player
Who do you think played it? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/1a1ae673bc10714a0ce1acfb04668b86e90d6fcbd1b96d026641ebccbc6ce27e.jpg
is it any good? i was tempted to try it
Especially when you consider how id had no hand in creating DOOM’s MP. They had a console team design the MP for consoles first and with PC, well they were stuck with the console version of MP.
QC is designed for PC first and likely consoles later, the way it should always be.
Only now do they do this. Now when the player base has moved onto other MP based games.
A bit late bethesda, but I guess the money wasn’t flowing in with your MP based DLC anyway.
The monetisation continues because the release of Doom VFR is imminent. They could have sold said VR mode as DLC but Zenimax presumably thought they’d be making more money from us by selling it as a standalone product.
(Still waiting for the “Gold Collector’s Enhanced Expanded Game of the Year Ultimate Space Marine Edition” at 75% off.)
(Just got it for 10 and change at CDKeys.)
i almost forgot this game had multiplayer
Wasn’t worth the multi. I heard it was a different team that handled the multi. It felt too CoD for me. Single was epic though.
TFW you spend $40 on sh*tty DLC only for it to go free a year later. #NoRefunds https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9ddbb52d2dd3073558f9eaeec0da03a3e8bde0679a862ca5d5a9e4a30dc98b34.jpg
That’s racist.
34.7GB update for me
“For those elite few who have achieved the max Slayer level, we’ve designated a special Slayer badge for you”
South of Heaven?
Hell Awaits?
did this never get single player expansion? would be a first time for the franchise if it didn’t
It never did, despite the constant request from fans all over Steam and the forums.
Update of the Beast. Interesting, but I have no inclinations towards multiplayer.
According to one of the commenters on PCgamer site “the game is actually about 10gb smaller after the update. Steam is downloading and replacing certain files in the game.” I wonder if the visual fidelity of the singleplayer is compromised in some way.
Turns out the visual fidelity is compromised – it’s GONE. lmao

After that update my DOOM folder occupies 67 Gb and my singleplayer campaign is FUBAR – I’ve completed 5 levels on the previous version and now I see black screen when the level is loaded with only the HUD showing. Great stuff! Thanks Bethesda!
So before update 6.66 which brings 34,7 Gb of stupid multiplayer content that nobidy gives a damn about I had absolutely no screen tearing in Vulkan with Vsync off and nVidia drivers 368.39.
With the same drivers and that stupid 6.66 update I have black screen when the level is loaded and ONLY the HUD is visible.
So I updated the GPU drivers to the latest and while I got the image back now I get screen tearing with Vulkan and VSync off.
In short, thanks a lot stupid Bethesda for the update 6.66 and thanks to dumb Valve for not making updates an optional feature in its Steam client.
35GB forced patch for multiplayer which I will never use.
6.66 666
I see what you did there Bethesda 😉
gg well played
id’s been doing that for years (and some stores price certain games the same way).
DOOM’s about killing demons, not celebrating them.
I thought I had uninstalled the game already. Was surprised to see Steam downloading Doom and thought it was reinstalling unprompted. I guess I did still have it installed so thanks for reminding me, id.
Re: This patch: I was looking for “Fixes for Snapmap corrupting your maps while saving, flushing hundreds of work hours down the toilet”. It’s not in the notes, therefore Snapmap is still a waste of time. If they fixed Snapmap I reinstall, it was the reason I bought the game. Doom was yet another proof that buying any game for features other than multiplayer is a mistake in this post-2007 world.
