New Inner Chains update lets you adjust FOV, does not address the game’s optimization issues

Telepaths Tree has released the second major update for its horror title, Inner Chains. According to the release notes, this patch improves lightning, adds support for more resolutions, especially for 21:9 monitors, in the menu, and allows players to adjust the FOV.

Telepaths Tree also claimed that this update improves optimization and streaming. Unfortunately, though, we did not witness any performance improvements. As you can see below, the game still suffers from single-thread CPU issues. As a result of that, our GPU was not used to its fullest.

But anyway, this patch also improves collision detection, adds narration for Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4, adds an option to disable head bobbing, and adds a melee tutorial in Chapter 1.

This patch will be auto-downloaded from Steam, and you can read its complete changelog below.

  1. While performance optimizations would also be appreciated I am very happy that FOV got addressed. It is something that I think should be in almost every first or third person game.

  2. I downloaded a cracked version of the game just to see how it runs on my raggedy old HD5970. To my surprise the game engine actually makes use of the second GPU. But even with my new Ryzen 7 PC and 16GB of RAM, I managed to get just 18fps at 1600×900 and medium settings. This game is a mess! Unless it’s optimized soon (by the time I get an RX Vega card) I’ll just wait for this game to cost € 5 (or less) on Steam in the hopes enough time will have passed for the devs to really fix the performance issue’s.
