The Quick & Dirty: Weekly PC News Digest!

The Quick & Dirty is a new series I’ve decided to try out, if you all hate it…. Well I can burn it to some type of optical media, ship it to burning man and they can re-burn it or something…. The Quick & Dirty is a no-frills weekly show that sums up some of the previous week’s news. It’s for busy (or bored) people and it is intended to be under 15 minutes long, though that time limit isn’t guaranteed it’s what I’ll strive for. Each episode I’ll summarize the news +Β  give you my view on things. Constructive feedback? Please!

      1. You know what will be nice? Those of us who got a game early can answer questions regarding the gameplay. That is something i would like to see, because reviews nowadays are completly uninformative.

  1. This seems superfluous to me.

There’s nothing new in it for people who actually read this site. If somebody is too busy to read the site, why would they come here anyway if they never have the time to read? I also wonder where somebody who is too busy to read articles would take a whole 15 minutes to listen to the video. The whole premise of who this is aimed at is a bit ridiculous. Also, if you want to give us your view on things, why not just use the comment section like everybody else?

I think the video format lends itself more to things like graphics and frame rate comparisons. Maybe trailer and gameplay analysis too.

    1. I think there’s a niche for it. There’s been times in the past where I couldn’t keep up with some sites I read and that’s why I thought of a feature like this. I really dislike the feeling of missing out on stuff. I do use the comments to give my views as well. Like I said though if it’s too reviled by the community then I’ll discontinue it.

    2. I get what you mean, but I feel this isn’t directed to “us” (people who already read the site), I see this as a alternative to people who maybe don’t have the time to proper access and read the site (although the format here being short but still) or for people who mainly uses yt and stuff. I don’t know, I think it’s kind of neat. πŸ™‚

  2. Seems interesting. Maybe a podcast would suit it better? Anyway I will follow it, to see how it develops.

    1. I agree, it’s good to get a review of the news and I personally prefer podcasts to videos. It might be good for you, Spencer, to continue content like this while having a discussion with other mods at the site.

      1. I’m still considering a podcast. The issue with the podcast idea is it’s a lot harder to differentiate yourself with a podcast these days since there are so many. This idea is more unique, there’s not a lot out there like it that I’ve personally seen.

There’s Total Biscuit’s Content patch but it has a tendency to focus on just a couple of big stories and go into a lot of editorial analysis vs. this which is more of an attempt at grabbing a lot of stuff + quick opinions. Even smaller news there’s an attempt to cover. Content Patch is also a less consistent show in terms of release schedule (IIRC he quit doing it for some time, though I may be mistaken) and more general. One of his recent episodes focused on Nintendo’s new YouTube policies for example…. While this is just about PC gaming.

No offense to TB btw, have great respect for him and everything he does even though I occasionally disagree with him. Hope he recovers from cancer fully.

        1. You have a point (and a good one). Well, whatever you decide to do I will check it out, also the first one was good

          1. Thanks bro! Also I’m dead serious about a podcast, it’s still in talks and at the very least I’ll do a few trial podcasts and gauge community reaction. Part of me thinks Quick & Dirty could co-exist with a podcast… Tough to say.

The After Dark podcast on DSOG….

  3. Spread the word of the DSOG through all the medias! πŸ˜€

Seriously though, I think it has potential and I will only recommend a background song to makes things not sounding too “dry”.
And you sound too nervous. πŸ˜›

  4. I have to say that I love Spencer’s idea with this weekly – hopefully – series. It’s really great even if you’ve already read the news (as Spencer shares his opinion on the News pieces). Personally I’m looking forward to the next episodes/parts of this series.

PS: In case you didn’t know everyone, RadApples is Matt πŸ˜‰
