The Last of Us – Remake vs Remastered Early Video Graphics Comparison

YouTube’s ‘Cycu1’ has shared an early video graphics comparison between the remake and the remastered versions of The Last of Us. This video will give you a glimpse at the graphical improvements that this remake brings to the table.

The Last of Us Part I is as a total overhaul of the original experience, that was rebuilt for PS5 and PC. The game will incorporate modernized gameplay, improved controls and expanded accessibility options. Additionally, it will have improved effects and enhanced exploration and combat.

As we can see, Naughty Dog has replaced the game’s 3D models so that they resemble those of its sequel. The team has also overhauled the game’s lighting, and used higher-quality textures on most surfaces.

All in all, The Last of Us Part I looks noticeably better than its remastered version.

Sony plans to release the game on PS5 on September 2nd. The game will come out on PC shortly after its PS5 release.

Enjoy!

  1. TBH the graphics are the last upgrade this game needs. The origal game had some of the worst AI iv seen in a game. If theyre going to remaster anything about the game, they should probably start with that.

    1. Don’t say that man all the fan of the series cares is about pseudo father daughter relationship everything else is cheery on top or distraction .

      1. The plot and characters sure elevated my impressions to another level (I liked and cared about characters in this game), but in this game every element is amazing, not just the plot and characters. I have played original game for the first time in 2019 and I was still amazed. Since then I have replayed TLOU more than 3 times simply because it’s very fun game.

    2. Maybe they will improve AI (after all it’s remake), but I dont know if I want full realism in stealth games. If AI would hear / see everything TLOU1 would be ever more difficult than it already is. IMO games shouldnt aim for 100% realism.

IMO TLOU1 / 2 both have very fun stealth and combat. Each enemy encounter is a little bit different, because you have so many options to deal with each oponent.

  2. They both look older, Ellie looks more like her model in part 2 and Joel looks frail and weak. I don’t like it

  3. F**k the graphics comparisons. I wanna see the ideological and political comparison, because that’s where the real damage will lie.

The graphical differences are hardly of any concern to Sony. This is being made as a retcon, and you can bet your a**, that it’s going to be loaded to the max with “the message”.

  4. This OG TLOU is a REMASTER and not a remake, for crying out loud!

A remaster is just tweaks to its character models, textures/graphics, and lighting and shadows AKA JUST A FREAKING MODDED TITLE!

A remake changes its original form of the game design, etc. entirely e g. advanced facial/clothes/torso MoCap and animations, dev muscle deformation, add collision, FULL RT features, advanced animations/geometry to water puddles, etc. (not black-iced so-called RT reflection ?) and so much more.

This is just another tiny effort (a weekend project for a couple of Sony’s devs to do while with nothing to do, mind you, Naughty Dog still has not released a NEW title for this current-gen yet ?) for Sony to make another quick cash grab for a very dated title.

Bargain bin under 10 bucks, TOPS, for this mess. ?

    1. Remake doesnt mean game has to be different. Remake simply means (like name implies) they are remaking assets rather than improving already existing ones.

I thought this remake will look more impressive (something comparable to like UE5 demos), but they have clearly rebuilded everything, because now this game looks the same as part 2.
