STALKER feature

Ten minutes of gameplay footage from the upcoming multiplayer mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat

Infinite Art has released a video, showing 10 minutes of gameplay footage from the upcoming multiplayer mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat, Ray of Hope. Ray of Hope is a mod that aims to give you the possibility of surviving in the zone with your team-mates, with not only NPC, but also with other players. Basically, it’s STALKER Online.

As the team noted, this video gives a visual presentation on how familiar S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mechanics work in multiplayer and how they synchronize between clients. The team would also like to outline some new features it did not show previously, such as weather effects, anomaly particles, ambient sounds and many more miscellaneous features.

Ray of Hope has been under development for a few years. Development for this mod started in 2015 and instead of porting it to a newer engine, like CRYENGINE or Unreal Engine 4, the team will be using a modified version of the X-Ray Version 1.6 Engine.

Ray of Hope not only promised to capture the favourite moments of the acclaimed universe, but also allow you to explore the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone alongside your comrades. Apart from that, the project introduces various conceptual, graphical and sound innovations.

According to the mod’s description, players will be free to explore the vast expanses of the Exclusion Zone, meaning that they will encounter thick forests, abandoned buildings and dark remnants of the soviet epoch. All events in the game world will develop dynamically, even without the player’s interference so expect to witness mind-boggling anomalies amidst the ruined cities, mutants migrating across the deserted landscapes, roads that were once considered safe could become lethal overnight, and the places you thought to be unreachable may turn into a stalker’s safe haven the very next day.

Ray of Hope sounds really cool but we have to wonder whether it will be enough fan-base to play it once – and if ever – it gets released, especially if a) the mod requires S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat which is a really old game and b) whether S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be out before this mod.

But anyway, enjoy the following video and stay tuned for more!

  1. Anyone who has played the Stalker series would appreciate some company, the zone can be very unforgiving, shame they didn’t do this for Stalker: Lost Alpha

    1. Totally agree. I would love to play with a friend than never got into it because “it looked old”. He has no idea what he is missing, the atmosphere and the stuff that happen in this game is what makes it what it is. (and at last for me it still looks cool with Complete mod or Atmosfear + RealVegetation mods alone, or Misery 2.0+)

And in the other side, I also introduced this game to another friend and he told me after he played through Shadow of Chernobyl “I don’t want this game to end!!”. He fell in love with it same as I did.

It will be cool to experience this in coop for sure. At a stormy night lost in the middle of the zone or getting into Jupiter alone must be really cool.

Hope they can pull this off and release it soon…Still waiting for Gunslinger mod. 😉

  2. Not battle royale, no ray tracing, no ‘surprise mechanics’ and no Epic Games Store.

    Must be witchcraft.

    1. Maybe lack of assets that match the ones we have in the game or something like that. It is easy to make a landscape but to make it feel and look “realistic” is another thing, you can’t just place things all around and hope it looks good.

Not many artists will do that work for free you know.
