Fable feature-2

Take a look at the first official gameplay footage for Fable

At the latest Xbox Developers Direct, Microsoft and Playground Games shared the first gameplay footage for their new Fable game. Playground Games has also shared some new details about it, so let’s dive in.

Fable is based on three major pillars. These are: Fairytale, Britishness, and Choices. According to the devs, these are the three pillars that describe the original games. And this new Fable game is based on them. So, while the characters are not related to the original Fable games, the game’s tone should be similar. Or at least that’s what the devs claim.

Fable will have choices and consequences. The devs claim that the game will be packed full of choices. Players will be able to make their choices and live with the consequences of their actions. So, it remains to be seen what kind of freedom the game will offer. Will it be similar to the original games? Will it be something like The Witcher 3? Or will it be a more surface-level freedom, like what we’ve seen from a lot of other games?

You will begin your journey as a child. That’s when your heroic powers emerge. Then, there is a time jump, and you will find yourselves in Briar Hill, your starter village, in adulthood. As soon as you leave your village, you can go pretty much anywhere. Fable will be a truly open world, so the world is yours to explore. The story will not force you along the main path. Players will be able to go and do whatever they want in the game. For example, you could go to the most northerly village in Albion, get a job, settle down, and get married if you want.

The game’s combat system will be based on melee, ranged, and magic. These will be called Strength, Skill, and Will. Players will be able to strike with a sword and then hurl a fireball in a smooth movement. The game aims to force you into choosing how you use your ranged, your melee, and your magic to crowd control, and to pick them off. The gameplay video has some combat sequences, which can give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from it.

One of the key features of the classic Fable games was their morality system. In the new Fable game, the morality system will be based around the actions you do, and specifically the things you do in Albion that are witnessed by at least one other person. Different people will view your reputation in different ways. However, the devs did not confirm whether you can go full evil in it. Will you be able to kill NPCs and become a villain? Will this evil path offer hidden dark abilities?

Microsoft will release Fable in Autumn 2026. However, there is no exact ETA on when it will come out. Naturally, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
