Aurogon Shanghai has revealed a new action RPG called Swords of Legends. At first glance, it will remind you a lot of Black Myth: Wukong. The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5, and its first gameplay trailer is now available.
Swords of Legends is the official sequel to the GuJian single-player series. This means it continues the story from the earlier games instead of starting something completely new. The devs are building on what made the first games special, while also adding new ideas, characters, and adventures. Players can expect the game’s universe and lore to grow even bigger, with more history, legends, and mysteries to explore.
As said, Swords of Legends will use Unreal Engine 5. And, as you will see, its visuals are really close to what we got with Black Myth: Wukong. The devs started working on it in 2021. Then, in early 2024, they secured investment, allowing the dev team to gradually expand. As a result, the game has been in full development for about two years.
Swords of Legends is an action RPG that focuses on a strong and exciting main story, told with rich, movie-like cutscenes. Alongside the main story, players can also enjoy side quests and explore the world in depth. The game is not a Soulslike, and it’s not a fully open-world game either. Instead, it uses a style called ‘wide linear.’ This means the game gives you some freedom to explore areas at your own pace, but there is still a clear path and progression to follow. It’s designed to feel both open and guided, giving players the best of both worlds – freedom to explore and a focused story to experience.
In the gameplay trailer, we see the player dodging and blocking enemy attacks. We also get to see some of the mini-bosses that it will have. I know the devs said this won’t be a pure Souls-like game. But, the art style and the combat immediately reminded me of it. Still, the good news is that Swords of Legends will be more focused on its story. And that’s a good thing in my opinion.
There is currently no ETA on when the game will come out. Realistically, we’re looking at a 2028 game, at best. And that’s me being optimistic here. So, don’t expect to be playing it anytime soon.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

I put 84 hours into Gujian 3 last year, very solid RPG. great art/world/combat. This could be a banger.
