      1. Actually there were AAA PC only games. They were just from different genres. We lacked first person games post Crysis/STALKER but this gen is looking much better in terms of variety. And now we have Space Sims back too.

        1. If the game is possible on Consoles, it always goes to Consoles as long as devs have the budget. Even old PC AAAs like Max Payne, Mafia, Half Life etc were all ported to Consoles. If possible they are still ported.

If not then PC still gets stuff like Starcraft, Total War etc, games that remain PC only forever. It’s been like that since the beginning.

Now Squadron 42/Star Citizen are something different. They are on whole another level. These games are like Crysis or Half Life 2 (once in a generation thing,,, that pushes video games to the next the next level).

      2. It been a while I know, but why do we have to care so much about them? It’s not AAA that made PC gaming.
Well, actually, it is not “games made for everyone” that makes PC gaming.

I agree with this. Console AAAs are for wider audiences these days, while PC ones are for fans of the specific genre.

          1. Exactly, that’s what I’m on babbling about.
I care little for a title to be a “PC exclusive” but what I really want is something that is more focused on the audience that it tries to have. And no “big budget mega publisher “title are capable to give me that.
Star Citizen is a absolutely example of what focusing on their audience is, but it isn’t unique in the sense that is the only thing that makes PC gaming a thing.

          1. Most Console games get higher metacritic because there are at least 12 websites on metacritic owned by Sony or Microsoft, or their hardcore fans. These websites give games 10/10 just to boot the metacritic score. Check metacritic of The Last of Us, you’ll see.

And since PC has no dedicated websites or marketing support of Sony or Microsoft, it’s always a lot more difficult for PC developers to get good scores. Fortunately, better score =/= better game.

And TBH, most Console gamers are aware of stuff like this. They just like to troll PC gamers. The fact is, traditional Console gaming is dead. New Consoles are trying to copy PCs, and they aren’t very good at copying either.

    1. All of the above. It has FPS arenas for people to partake. It has a singleplayer campaign. It has a large MMO-style multiplayer universe. The meat of the game takes place in space-flight though. It is, afterall, a space-sim game.

      1. It’s really sad that think like that, you’re talking part in funding the game and playing, testing the game throughout it’s development, no AAA let’s you do that. There is no game that does what SC does in pre-alpha, never mind the finished game.

        1. Well sad or not, there are AAA that let you fund and test the game; it’s called betas and pre-orders; in fact most do. There is a good reason no one else releases pre-alpha gameplay; it’s buggy, broken and unfinished.

Personally I think it’s much sadder when people praise or denounce an incomplete product game. Wreckfest put out an amazing tech demo but the EA game; not so great.
