Residence of Evil has shared a video, showcasing a fan remake of Resident Evil 4 in Unreal Engine 4. Santiago Ibarra, environment artist at VOID Interactive, has recreated the game’s village, graveyard and church environments in UE4.
According to Residence of Evil, Ibarra plans to add a third-person perspective and Leon Kennedy in a future build. Moreover, the artist plans to recreate some other environments too from this classic Resident Evil game.
Since an official remake of Resident Evil 4 is currently in development, I’m pretty sure that the artist won’t be able to complete his project. Still, it’s a cool fan remake that deserves your attention.
Speaking of Resident Evil 4, the team behind the HD Project has issued a new update for it. According to its progress summary, the project is nearing its complete state. As such, we may see the full final version of it later this year.

I don’t see it. You know what would be AMAZING? If these guys would start just making THEIR own IDEAS and stop worshipping these has beens. I’m sure at least one of these ‘In Unreal 4″ people can make something original or is that just a look into the industry itself as an insight to why we have so many terrible devs. Because No one can be original any more. Hmmm, makes me think. Not trying to be a Hard A$$ here but one has to think at times,
Lol just look up all the posts he has made with “X fan remake in X engine is AMAZING”, it’s just low effort regurgitation like most of this website.
These “remakes” serve a purpose for the people who make them, it’s practice and stuff they can add to their artist portfolio.
It’s nothing new in the art world, you get experience and understanding by imitating the professionals.
No one can be original in the AAA industry because it’s profit driven and very risk averse, many AAA studios from 10-20 years ago are comparable to indie devs today. The larger you become, and once investors get involved, you can forget about being original or doing anything risky.
You got me there bud, I can’t disagree on anything you say. Especially when it comes to being original and taking risk. Respect
John why do you give garbage like this so much promotion?
Why not? Its a great example of how RE4 could look with updated graphics.
my thoughts, right off the bat it looks like an upgrade in many areas.
Re4 was definitely one of my top game cube games that i replayed dozens of times.
my takeaways from this fan recreation was that it’s using a mixed combination of old flipped assets, it’s lacking additional light sources for environmental depth. some placed torches could have been used to create extra illumination.
the original game also had them in a few locations.
the fog level density is also a little too high, which eats away at the level detail underneath. some small animals could have also been placed in the location, frogs, crows, and goats for extra depth.
but anyways this was pretty entertaining to watch.
whoever put this together, definitely keep up the work.
Its definitely not how I would have done it. Just off the top of my head, I thought the fire looked overly saturated and there was an overall lack of polish. But its an example of the setting in a new engine.
Also played through RE4 many times. First back on PS2 and more recently the HD version with the high quality texture mod for PC.
No.
John why do you give garbage like this so much promotion?
Couldn’t be less interested in an RE4 remake. Also these don’t look that great. Some of them are alright but the intentional “muh scary village” atmosphere gets old when you’re talking about a treeless village in Spain where the sun is beating down on you – that’s not how light works.
I dunno… UE4 starts to show its age. Or this Ibarro guy is a hack. totally not impressed
3…..2….1….. cease and desist. So why even bother wasting precious time and energies. Just rename it to something else with a wink wink nudge nudge.
