Earlier this month, I informed you about a new PlayStation 5 emulator for the PC, called SharpEmu. At the time, the emulator could boot Demon’s Souls Remake. Just one week later, it has made great progress. It can now launch the game and run all the way to the character creation screen.
This is truly impressive. I wasn’t expecting to see SharpEmu run Demon’s Souls all the way to character creation in 2026. And this happened in just a week. This is huge progress.
However, you should temper your expectations. This PlayStation 5 emulator is in a very early development stage. So, don’t expect to be playing all the PS5 games that have not come out on PC anytime soon. Still, I’m utterly impressed by its progress. So, who knows? We might be able to play Marvel’s Wolverine or Intergalactic on PC via SharpEmu in a few years.
According to its GitHub page, SharpEmu can load some games and read basic game information, such as the title and version.
The emulator also supports loading system modules (PRX and sys_module) and includes partial support for some kernel functions. In addition, some games can already display video output.
Right now, SharpEmu is designed mainly for Windows. Support for Linux and macOS is planned for the future. For now, the developers are focusing on Windows to make early development and debugging easier.
Those interested can download this PS5 emulator from here and experiment with it. At the end of the article, you can also find a video that shows Demon’s Souls Remake running on it. As you will see, you can boot it and create your character. Then, after the intro video, the game crashes.
If you are a Sony fan, I also suggest taking a look at shadPS4. This is the best PlayStation 4 emulator you can get on PC. Its latest version is V0.16.0. shadPS4 V0.16.0 introduced the foundation of a new configuration system. This new system makes settings easier to manage, improves game-specific options, and prepares the emulator for future features.
Version 0.16.0 also added a new OpenAL-based audio backend. This gives the emulator a more flexible audio system and improves support for PlayStation 4 audio features.
Another new feature is early PlayStation Camera emulation. This brings shadPS4 one step closer to supporting games and apps that require the PlayStation Camera.
