Project CARS 2 versus Assetto Corsa – Video Graphics Comparison

YouTube’s ‘Racing At Home’ has shared a new video, comparing the visuals and audio of Project CARS 2 and Assetto Corsa. Now while Project CARS 2 appears to be visually a bit better than Assetto Corsa, there is one visual effect missing and that is the sun reflection. Apart from that, there are minor differences between these games and to be honest I am a bit surprised that Assetto Corsa is able to hold its own against Project CARS 2. Perhaps we are entering the realm of diminishing returns in racing games or something. But anyway, you can view the comparison video after the jump!

  1. well of course PC 2 is going to win in graphics slightly when the rain and storms kicks in but physics i dont think so not in a million years BTW i own both project cars 1 and assetto corsa and i play both in 4k.

  2. AC sound system isn’t very good tbh (I own PC1 and AC). Every car sounds synthetic. I’m hoping PC2 improves on 1’s sounds, but either way, it’ll be better than AC I suspect. Graphically, they’re 6 of 1 half a dozen of another. PC has the advantage of weather systems though, something AC is sadly missing.

    1. AC has modified sound files that are VERY VERY realistic via a download of the modded sound files which can easily be found on Google if your interested in trying them out. I have, and also having dolby 5.1 and tactile FFB on my chair (buttkicker Gamer 2) is much more intense and throaty with the files that I have downloaded awhile back.

  3. Spa and Nordschleife look better in Project CARS 2, but I have to give Monza to Assetto Corsa. Car models, well Pcars has the best in the industry, and sound is much improved this time as well.

      1. Who do you think is better, and please don’t say Gran Turismo with their plastic looking bodies, please don’t.

          1. I like Forza, but sorry to inform you, Forza has the worst car models out of the big 3 racing games. That fact and the game’s horrible car handling are the two things that I have never liked when it comes to Forza games. The only thing that keeps me continuing to like the franchise is that I can play it in Windows.

          2. Well hell that’s even worse for Forza. Project CARS 2 on PC kicks Forza where it hurts and it’s going to be a 12K masterpiece with the best VR experience in any racing game that exists. Hey, like I said, I like Forza, but let’s not forget that the game is a console game first, with console heritage.

Here I’m thinking that you’re talking about gameplay and you have the audacity to compare the graphics capability of any Forza title vs Project CARS 1 or 2, good grief man. I only game on PC and in an Apples to Apples comparison for graphics Forza will lose, everytime.

  4. “Perhaps we are entering the realm of diminishing returns in racing games or something”,

I was not long ago beginning to wonder that myself… until I then played such a game in VR.

    1. Gran Turismo Sport will be left behind eating dust from Forza Motorsport 7 and Project Cars 2!!!

  5. Is it me or when the camera panned out from drivers view to showcase the exterior view, Assetto’s camera is further? Also too, the windshield reflections/view is much more exaggerated in Assetto. I’ve seen side by side of both project cars, and it is becoming more apparent there is slightly little difference between the two except perhaps the track/grass uses more polys. In any case, I ordered the Oculus Rift CV1 deal going on, it’s really a shame that the only game that is new and that is coming out this upcoming season with ANY VR SUPPORT is still PCars2. Forza falls behind here, and until GT comes to the PC via emulation or whatever, VR support and simxperience support for motion rigs will also only be supported by the Pcars franchise as well. Forza really needs to get their head on str8 for PC players. The wheel support isfantastic, but PC racing is miles beyond just wheel support…

  6. Oh please, the Madness Engine didn’t even exist when Need For Speed Shift 1&2 were made. Now yes Project CARS looks putrid on consoles but on a PC where you’re able to push it at 4K 60fps like mines well then it looks stunning.

The Forza series of games have never ever been known or liked for the games graphics, it’s liked because of its accessibility and ease of use. You gotta have a good PC son.

    1. Good for you, and I’ll have it as well on PC, but only because it is playable on PC. I still prefer playing Project CARS 2 at 8K-12K and with VR two things that Forza won’t have, not to mention the dreadful Forza car handling. Have fun with that arcade racer kiddo.

      1. He thinks thats because Pcars could run on 8K 3D at 120fps and therefore Racedriver Grid 2008 is also graphically better than Forza 6 since it could be run at 16K 360fps against the filthy 60fps console. True rational reason, you see ?

        1. Look man, all I know is that Forza has never been a game that people talk about or applaud it for its graphics period. Project CARS is however, and yes the first game had its gameplay problems, but everyone knew that the game was a gorgeous game and the new one looks even better, soooo.
