Hello Games has released a new trailer for No Man’s Sky that focuses on the game’s survival part. As its description reads, many planets have extreme conditions that make survival difficult. For example, some planets will have extreme temperatures – from freezing lows to scorching highs – while others are drenched in toxic rain, heavily irradiated or completely submerged.
“For the unprepared, surviving on planets with extremes will be a challenge. Every second spent exposed in the elements will chip away at your protective shielding, which can be restored by taking shelter or expending resources to recharge it. By upgrading your suit’s technologies, you can survive harsh climates for longer, run faster, jump higher and explore for longer.”
Do note that when you die, your resources will be lost and your technology will be damaged as your body is regenerated at your last save point.
No Man’s Sky is coming to the PC on August 12th.
Enjoy!

Temperature, radiation levels, dangerous aliens. But does your ship consume fuel? Do you need to eat? The afforementioned threats are OPTIONAL. You can choose not to go anywhere there’s ice, radiation or dangerous creatures. It’s an open world game with random generation so surely you aren’t forced to visit any particular planet and do any particular “missions”. So you could just play defensively and avoid all that stuff, and then where’s the challenge? This seems to be another one of those games where you need to pretend in order to make it an actual GAME, otherwise it’s a walking (+flying) simulator.
It’s a mix of Elite, Noctis and modern survival games.
There are quests and your ship consumes fuel (you can’t travel to wherever you want non stop, your ship also has a range because of the engines, so upgrades will be a necessity)…so you need to get down to those planets or do some trading (with its consequences, AI’s pirates flying around) or bounty hunting…etc.
The game is more than what it seems.
For people that loves exploration like me (I did some exploration in Elite Dangerous…3 months visiting different Nebulas just to take a look at the vistas alone and make some credits in the process) this is awesome.
I can see people complaining and making “bad reviews” about one hour of playing or those negative reviews with 300+ hours played saying that the game is “repetitive”. Yet any MP shooter game in where you put more than that isn’t repetitive.
I’ll grab the popcorn for that…But no…I will be playing the game and enjoy the unexpected. 😉
not a open world game nor has as spaceship but try solus project. It has story, you need to eat sleep drink keep yourself warm, dry yourself.
A lot of that is basically what we get in a game like Starbound. We have to upgrade our suits in order to withstand different temperatures along with having to consume food in order to stay alive via healing and hunger. Also the ship you own in Starbound also needs fuel in order to get from one system to another.
NMS to me just feels like a pinch of Starbound but lacking what that game does really well that it could have done better with.
I’m going to do like Cartman and freeze myself until the launch day.
boring
Console wars are truly like rooster fights set by Sony and Microsoft.
No Man’s Sky seems interesting for me, but who knows if I will ultimately like it? It’s a hit-or-miss kind of game, I think.
People who want to know how the game will work do.
and we get to play both
I’m worried the PC version is going to look marginally better at the highest settings than the console counterparts.
I’d assume it’s going to be the case as Sony are footing their bill which suggests that the game is being made and designed around and for PS4 first and foremost with the PC version being gimped.
Sony only handles the marketing/distributing PS4 side.
Absolutely no strings attached as seen by the documented footage and contract signed.
lol, ok Sun.
Silly me trying reasoning on the internet. ¯_(?)_/¯
Silly me for asking for evidence I guess rather than taking a random guy’s word for it being legit.
¯_(?)_/¯
Oh I’m sorry, I’m going to call Shuhei Yoshida and tell him to take a picture of the contract.
Or I just can point out that there’s interviews where Sean Murray specifically said that when offered financial help he just asked for Sony to help marketing and distribution it and nothing more.
But why would I do that?
Oh sure we take that one spot over everything else behind closed doors which we can’t see at all times, of course silly me.
“We didn’t take any money”
Has to nod in agreement* Okay I “believe you”.
Let me just fly to somewhere where a Mafia don lives and ask him “did you murder anyone last week?” and take his answer at total face value and never question it ever again.
Mafia murders and game development are equal things, got it.
I don’t have to do anything. Unreasonable amounts of cynicism takes precedence.
Ah I forgot they have to be 50/50 in order to count, never the actual meaning of questioning something, gotcha.
Same back at you.
Am I being cynical? About your what, your cynicism?
We must go deeper.
If you want to shoot for it, be my guest.
Though I don’t get how wanting to know what goes on behind closed doors and wanting to question it all counts as deep seething cynicism. Just because you take things at face value and never want to question them doesn’t mean I should have to do as you do.
I take things at face value?
How about dismissal of anything that the game, marketing or devs do and say that don’t go like *you* think it should go? Or how if it doesn’t follow a set of rules, anyone to has any sort of interest of genuine excitement are object of scrutiny? All of this based on a unreasonable set of made up standards that try to promotes a objective form of criticism invalidating any sort of defense of something that ultimately is completely subjective.
you are really going down that road aren’t you?.
Want to climb the ladder to the ivory tower while you’re at it?.
I really just want some decent textures.
This game still has more information to give that it’s not giving along with actual PC footage which I’ve never seen any of.
I have a feeling this just isn’t going to look any different or run all that well on PC, I can just smell a gimped console port job.
take a look on who is publishing on pc, who are these people?
Are you seriously going with that?.
I heard that this game has billions world, but what makes it different than any random-generated world in other games?
