Oxide Games has released a new video, showcasing its Mantle tech demo called ‘Star Swarm’. In case you’ve been wondering, Star Swarm is not a game but rather a demo showing off the Nitrous engine and what it means for the future of strategy games. This demo pushes 10,000+ units onscreen. Nitrous is capable of simulating and rendering large-scale, complex scenes never before seen in games, which opens doors to entirely new types of experiences that simply weren’t possible before. Enjoy!

This is hilarious. With mantel, fps drops to 15 fps. Under direct x, just turn off motion blur and it run better than mantel with motion blur on. Their motion blur under direct x is the most demanding effect i have ever saw. GPU physx is not demanding at all compared to this motion blur. Ouch!
What’s mantel?
My bad. I meant mental.

This has to be one of the most idiotic posts on this website.
This is really nice star Russell. Thank you. You are good boy.
I really wanted to give you a star, but Disqus apparently does not like ASCII art.
Of course the frame rate would drop. Motion blur is applying to all of the units on screen and because the overhead DirectX it suffered a massive performance hit.
You have some more info on their motion blur? How they do it? How do you know it is applied to all units and no to all the pixels (scene complexity doesnt matter)? I really dont know. But even though it looks great (just kidding i.imgur com TYGSbi1 jpg), if i have to choose between mental with motion blur and 15 fps, i will choose directx without motion blur and 30 fps.
And one more thing. Some people was like WAU, 10 000 units on the screen! Its impossible under direct x blah blah blah but it is possible thanks to good engine, not mantel api.
Three titles are already in production, the woman says. My god, i do miss me some good RTS games. Used to be millions of them, before xbox 360, that is
I´m looking forward to massive RTS like this. I play Supreme Commander time to time and love the massive battles. Chaos is cool and if performs well it gets even better. 😉
WOW. Where can I buy and how soon? I am not a fan of 4x or RTS but I want to just see lots of shit blow up all around me!
Hm EVE have battles over 10k… , event in old old Homeworld is over 2000 units
And someone notice how bad is graphics ,missing a lot of effect .Even in
Nexus: The Jupiter Incident graphicsi is much better ,and it is game from 2004
