Square Enix has just released a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth that details its PC features. These PC features are the exact same with those that SE revealed in December 2024. So, don’t expect anything new, like say Ray Tracing or Path Tracing.
Square Enix has updated some of the 3D models and textures. To be more precise, the LoD for background models and MIP maps for background textures can both be freely configured in the options settings. With this background polygon density and texture density can be set higher than previously. Moreover, the devs have improved the lighting in some areas. Plus, there will be support for DLSS from the get-go.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had major performance issues on PS5. So, I’m curious to see how the game will perform on PC. Square Enix has not upgraded the version of the UE it used. This means that it’s still running on Unreal Engine 4, and not on Unreal Engine 5.
Let’s hope that the game won’t suffer from major traversal or shader compilation stutters. Final Fantasy 7 Remake had some traversal stutters, especially in crowded areas. So, let’s hope that the devs will at least do something about them.
For what it’s worth, SE has not listed Denuvo on the game’s Steam store page. And, since FF7 Remake Intergrade does not have it, Rebirth may not also use it. However, Final Fantasy 16 does have Denuvo. So, I won’t be surprised if Square Enix adds it at the last minute.
Square Enix will release Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC on January 23rd. You can also find the game’s PC system requirements here. So, make sure to check them out.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

1:28 lmao looks the same.
Agreed. I couldn't see a difference until they zoomed in on Barret that the textures were actually different. Poly counts appear to be the same but maybe the background LODs are different or pop at different intervals for performance.
Meanwhile Yuffie and Barrett look significantly different at the different settings.

I do wonder why and if this is a LoD related reason similar to Barrett's jacket changing in detail as the camera moves.
Squaresuckers can't make Sleeping Dogs 2 duffer manky knobheads.
One of the few games that actually looks "next-gen" to me( the density of detail). We'll see.
Lol…everything about the graphics and animations in this game are last gen. The only good looking aspect is character faces.
Well the thing is that there is/ was barely any or no increase in graphical fidelity for some generations now anyways so i dont really get your point… You either like the art direction or you dont. Thats the thing that matters more than "current" or "last gen" graphics anyways…
To be fair, the game is open world with a ton of asset density whether it is in town (in particular) or outside exploring the wilderness with the rich variety of foliage and stuff.
Most other games tend to look very repetitive with the different assets being excessively reused, especially in wilderness areas.
Other than Cyberpunk 2077, which has a ton of low quality textures (isn't noticeable just how bad until you see the HD texture project showing comparisons and its just wow) and very low quality character models as it mostly shines in environment/lighting, I can't really think of any current gen game that looks noticeably better than Ultra FF7 Rebirth from the two trailers. About similar, but not really noticeably better, and none of the ones I think are even close aren't open world, either. I'm excluding PC only games, of course, as I'm sure there is one or two out there that may compete.
That said, I mostly cared that they fixed the lighting and resolution while bringing the textures a bit up in quality. Aside from that what I am looking forward to most is trying the game in HDR since Remake was one of the best HDR games to date, but Rebirth has a lot more vibrant colors. I'm going to be reminded all over again just how bad most other games are with regards to HDR.
"Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had major performance issues on PS5"
Ummm… It actually runs flawlessly on PS5 and it has been like that since day 1. You should probably correct that false information. It's a perfect locked 60 (perfomance mode) or 30 (fidelity mode) and it doesn't have any stutters at all. Only issue is the incredibly blurry image quality on performance mode, which is probably caused by a poor TAA implementation.
I agree, hopefully the PC version will rock!
I wanted to try the first one but they still want $50
