Mario Invades Epic Games’ A Boy And His Kite Tech Demo

YouTube’s member ‘CryZENx’ has shared a video, showing Mario in Epic Games’ latest mind-blowing tech demo, A Boy And His Kite. While the running speed of Mario feels a bit weird, this is a really cool project. Also, Epic’s tech demo is a beauty to behold so we’re pretty sure that most of UE4 will appreciate this video. Enjoy!

    1. Nope, rumours are that it’s not as powerful as the PS4, so in other words like the PS4, it’s a low end gaming PC with laptop parts.

      1. I haven’t look up much info about the NX but hearing this….*sigh*. What’s Nintendo’s plan then? Release a system less powerful than the x1? They seriously need new management…asap.

          1. IMO Nintendo messed up when they decided to keep using cartridges on N64 which made all thirdies leave. Quite impressive actually that they have managed to “survive” just with their franchises until now.

          2. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug but yes. They focused so much on “we have to be different from everyone else” than actual games and hardware. It’s biting them in the butt and I’m still not sure of they realize this after sooo many yrs.

They use different disc (albeit a form of blu ray)
use a tablet controller (that not many games take advantage of or users that really care for it)
online infrastructure is trash and pales in comparison to their competitors
Severely under powered console (which hurts 3rd party devs)
Rely on same franchises and barely any new IPs
Marketing and naming of their products is trash
Focus far too much on amiibos

And it goes on sadly, it was truly after the NGC that Nintendo started on this slope.

          3. Even the NGC was somewhat different (no DVD and the 1.5 GB disc size).
I must say, I still quite found of Nintendo (Zelda is one of my favourite franchises) and their philosophy of “trying something different” has a charm, but it just doesn’t work anymore, they are too much stuck in the past and lack ambition and I’m not sure that even if they make a more powerful console the 3rds would “get back”, they have already stuck themselves in a corner.

          4. Idk, I like what direction Sony is going in though. The ps1 days, games were “far” more simplified than what we have now. Polygon count, advanced AI, 1080/60, online, graphics, unique features, advanced graphical effects, models and etc. I’ve watched (and developed some of my own games) so many developer dairies and insiders that the difference now and then is staggering.

Sony focused on power (which is what PCs have) and I’m sure if the increased the ps4 cost to $500 instead of $400, the system would indefinitely be more powerful. Then again, not many devs have taken the leap from last gen so it’s true potential won’t be seen till 2016 on onward.

          5. I mean the games, PS1 had Wipeout, Destruction Derby, Raiden, Crash Bandicoot, Medievil, Parasite Eve, Twisted Metal, Gex, MDK, Porsche challenge, Loaded, Spyro, Soul Blade, you know, variation of games.

          6. Yes, the ps1 library was fantastic. That don’t have but what, 6 exclusives now that they release gamers for? Sony has been lacking in that dpt… it seems Sony/MS are waaay to dependent upon 3rd party devs rather than making their own/unique franchises.

          7. Haha, let me rephrase that. Just like every console gen, its final games are always superior to the launch titles. Once that install base is in and they get the final dev kits/updates, that’s when we get its biggest games. Though the uniqueness of the games is up to devs but everyone believes in giving us the same crap yr after yr with only a minority of devs offering something new.

    1. I don’t know. I think it’s pretty cool. A large part of PC gaming is finding ways to present content that wouldn’t otherwise exist if not for the freedom that the PC allows.

We’ll never see a Mario game on PC so stuff like this is pretty interesting to see.

      1. I find it cool too, I asked because of the whole C&D that Nintendo has with all these projects, then I’ve got myself thinking maybe the devs of these projects are trying to send a message? xD

Also, playing Nintendo games on PC for me was always a question of time *cough**cough*emulatorsorsomething*cough**cough* 😛

        1. Yeah, I’m surprised Nintendo hasn’t freaked out as they usually do and started sending cease and desists all around. They’re so uptight. It’s off-putting.

    2. Greater exposure through familiar imagery, I guess. Put any other skin that no one recognizes in the demo and no one would care. Put something that everyone can recognize then it’ll have immediate and wider attention.

Personally, I would rather see Geralt running around in the demo. Mario is cool and recognizable but it feels weird because PC gamers will never get to play him. It all feels like all this early work and attention on the PC are only for the benefit of console fans later down the line when they would show off their “exclusive” cards on us.

Wait…the demo consistently eats up almost 6GB of system RAM? Wow.

  1. the best graphics i’ve seen to date !
    Better than Witcher 3,Metro,Crysis 3.
And what makes it EPIC is that Mario its there!

    1. I’ll bite. Why should it? The idea is to keep the game at it’s best, not use memory when it doesn’t need to and Windows manages memory anyway so if Windows manages memory well, there shouldn’t be a problem. We know all 4GBs are there, that much is certain, it’s just that people with no knowledge made it out to be a bigger issue that it was.

Sorry but people with no knowledge to why and how the memory crossbar works and was designed like that shouldn’t type anything, opinions are like a*seholes, everyone has one.
