2K Games and Hangar 13 were planning to released the first gameplay video for Mafia Remake tomorrow. However, it appears that this gameplay video has been leaked online, and you can watch it below.
Now I’m certain that 2K Games will take it down immediately. As such, we suggest watching it while you still can. We’ll be sure to keep updating this story with other video links (until the official one comes out).
This official video for Mafia Definitive Edition showcases 14 minutes of gameplay footage. This video will give you an idea of the game’s overhauled graphics, so be sure to watch it.
Mafia Definitive Edition will be using the Mafia 3 Engine, and will release on September 25th. The game will expand its story to give insights into characters we only got to glimpse in the original game. Furthermore, the game will feature a larger Lost Heaven to explore, motorcycles as a new vehicle type, collectibles to seek out and more.

Seems alot of things have been reused from Mafia 3 like the shooting mechanics, animations most of the world objects, car handling etc.
Though personally ive never actually played the original and some of those things i felt were actually quite solid in the third game so im excited to try this out.

Their writer used to write woke comics that didn’t sell, so seeing him in charge of rewriting Mafia and adding “more story” really has me worried.
I don’t expect Hangar 13 to do something right. Apparently their remake of Mafia 2 is as bugged and glitchy as Mafia 3.

Basically looks like Mafia 1 redone with the Mafia 3 engine. I’m very hesitant at this point because the gameplay of Mafia 3 felt like garbage.
Yeah, it basically looks like what it is (?). The gunplay alone is just Mafia 3, the movement of the character…even the direction of the cutscenes…quite dissapointing…hence why i hope at least the story stays like it was.

it seems that most of the cut scenes are actually in-engine rather than in-game which makes things worse
IGN has it on their YT page now.
Everything looks ok-ish except for the voice acting when comparing to the original. The original voice actors had a deeper, amd more mature voice and tone of speaking. Here, they sound like a bunch of young kids starting up in the crime business instead of Italian mobsters…
Also, the shooting seems, how should I say it, not “raw”/hardcore like the original. Basically the game looks too easy.

Combat looks awful. Should have added more smoke/muzzle effects, more lethality, limited ammo, proper recoil (or any recoil?) and so on. It’s just arcade trash now.
Check out the reload times on the SMG + throwing Molotov animations as well. And the way the police pull up next to a f*king red barrel

It’s just out of sync a bit. Mocap on male characters may have been done by a female so it could be one of the other reasons why it looks a bit weird too.

Yup, looks like Hangar 13 alright – mediocre at best.
1) The voice-over casting director should be fired on the spot. The main trio in the original all looked different and voiced by guys with very different voice timbres. In the remake not only they look eerily alike but also sound alike. The worst is Paulie – he looks like Chris Kattan crossed with a monkey but also sounds like a child molester.

2) UI was so minimal in the original that you forgot it existed. In the remake you’re constantly reminded it’s a video game with all the objective markers and a “fix your eyes here” mini-map.
3) AI is dumb as a bag of rocks with the player matching the level of AI’s stupidity – the player for some reason decides to ditch the high ground and go down the staircase to shoot arriving cops and one cop manages to climb the stairs evading the barrage of bullets and somehow misses bleeding Sam with two full bursts of Tommy gun. WTF???
4) The original’s protagonist, Tommy Angelo, was this naive doe-eyed young man in the original who got caught up in the classic “wrong place at the wrong time” type of situation while in the remake he looks like a ruthless killer.
5) Lip-sync and overall facial expressions would make Mass Effect Andromeda proud.
Well good thing that the graphics is an overall improvement over a 18-year old game, right?

Nope. Wouldn’t mistake the original voice actors for anything. Those guys sounded like mobsters from Godfather and Scorsese mob films, Pauly’s voice actor was especially distinctive.
I’m not liking the new look of Tommy. They made him look more like the guy from Mafia 2. Mall ninja fedora style. Agreed about the voice acting, doesn’t sound as authentic as the original. This guy sounds like he’s going for a Nolan North generic action guy voice.
