Lords of the Fallen – NVIDIA GameWorks Tech Features Demonstrated

NVIDIA has just released a new video for Lords of the Fallen, showcasing the NVIDIA GameWorks features that are featured in it. Lords of the Fallen supports PhysX Particles, PhysX Cloth and PhysX Turbulence. And as the green team noted, the game’s primary platform of development was the PC. Lords of the Fallen releases today. Enjoy!

    1. could be video , but it seems in game to me as well… physx and gameworks are not there to enhance the gameplay experience , they are lot more a marketing tool so people will see pretty stuff and go for nvidia cards.

      1. Oh this man understands. Gameworks is only good for trailers not for real gameplay unless you have some serious performance to spare.

        1. For those of us with monster PCs, PhysX is awesome. It actually adds alot to games, Borladerlands 2 with PhysX is a totally different game.

          1. I wouldn’t mind at all if Nvidia was advertising PhysX as a very high end feature for the lucky few but instead it’s being (falsely) advertised as something for all (Nvidia users), which definitely it isn’t. It’s a total killer for its mid range cards and smoothness killer for the higher ones.

          2. That is marketing my friend. AMD doesn’t talk about power draw or noise levels, ect. And NO ONE ever showed a game on its lowest settings to sell it. It should be all taken with a grain of salt.

I think its common sense to the gaming community that PhysX, TressFX, ect is gonna kill performance on anything less than a killer rig.

  1. Actually looks really good. PC Gamer review says the game crashes constantly though. Has some technical issues I guess.

They only gave it a 58/100.

    1. PC Gamer’s been irrelevant for a few years now. And their reviews are done by console twerps who don’t realize what a PC is capable of.

They said the Bioshock Infinite DLC’s lacked in story. LACKED IN STORY LOL

    2. hahaha pc gamer, the same page that gave dragon age 2 a 94 and called it one of the best pc games ever bahahaha, sure, ill trust them.

  2. Typical bullcrap from Nvidia. No one is willing to sacrifice 30% or more from the game’s performance for some sparks and moving cloth. They need to either bring real options (not the crappy off / medium / high) for the PhysX effects into games (like effect density) or optimise the hell out of it.

As it is now Gamesworks is for the few people that have monster SLI gigs and even then it can cause stutter or FPS drops. I mean even using a dedicated card for PhysX just improves performance like 20-25%, which is crap considering you dedicate one gfx card for it.

These effects, since they are Nvidia exclusive, should come with a performance impact of 5-10% max for Nvidia cards yet I know no game that achieves this. In every game I know enabling PhyshX means lag, FPS drops, awful performance and stutter hardly what people want.

      1. I actually have an nvidia GFX card and no I am not willing to sacrifice so much performance and my steady 60FPS for some sparks (as all sane people do).

Perhaps a cookie for our little brother?

PS: Tell me you at least get paid for writing this crap or you are under-aged? Otherwise… /sadface

        1. LOL!
Was actually beying sarcastic, no offense mate I enjoy good fps to and as you are an nVidia user you are on the right side of the fence 😉

But you know, effects dont come cheep, just disable as you said.
Atleast we should be happy we CAN get more effects right ?
Thats whats great about Pc so the more the better right 😉

        2. whats that? u have a 660? NICE F’ING CARD MAN, thats gonna run everything on ULTRA DUPER SETTINGS! hell ya

        1. Naah, I leave that stuff to you as you seems to know all about medecin. Maybe one will be a f*g like yourself then huh 😉

And the only F*G I see around here is you DIPSHIT!!

          1. I clicked your profile and and here’s the extent of your vocabulary.

            “I will PIRATE this SH*IT”
            “Show these fa**ots”
“that means those fag**ts wont get a F*CKN cent from me!”
            “GAME FOR THE PC DI*SH*TS!”
“F*CKN Consoles boys to blame for bying into those consoles!”
“PATHETIC what have come of the console faggots!”
            “GTF Di–S*IIT!”

That`s less then a month of your posting history. I can now see what an insightful and witty human being you are. Oh, and for someone who likes to call other people homosexuals you sure do alot of thinking about the subject… man on man action must frequent your mind quite often for that word to flow so freely out of your mouth.

            Long story short…
Stay in school kids or you`ll end up like this sorry sack of b*tch.

    1. Stop spreading FUD. APEX Cloth is being used in almost every game now and it’s not an “option” it’s on all the time what on earth are you smoking?

The only “Nvidia exclusive” here is APEX Turbulence and maybe Particles(haven’t seen that in any game as of late), everything else works on AMD hardware since the latest PhysX SDK runs mostly on CPU and not GPU so it has nothing to do with GPU.

      1. Oh god stop being blind funboys, I don’t have a problem with it being an exclusive nor am I defending AMD. But since it is one, I would really like it to make a difference and give proper extra value to Nvidia card owners rather than being a resource hog. The same thing applies to TressFX, half the performance for Lara’s hair? No sir, not me. Optimize it, bring to 5-10% impact and I am game.

PhysX utilizes Nvidia’s CUDA parallel processing so no it’s not for everyone as you imply. You can set it to run on the CPU but in most cases this leads into a slide show game on medium-high settings unless you have a monster CPU… and it’s the particles that do the most cool effects and can bring even the most advanced system to it’s knees not the cloth engine.

        1. Cloth API could do that too. Look at Mafiia 2. PhysX is now really good optimize on CPU. The problem is in the level of detail which makes cool effects believable. GPU have much more horse power to make these features possible. that CPU. Hundreds and thousands of simpler process units are better for some simulations than 8-core universal CPU. And that’s the advantage. But as you can see PhysX is used in most cases via CPU. So in that case it is for everyone.

      1. 28% is not much when you consider that AMD cards have superior Compute performance and it shows right there. PhysX has vastly more performance drop and requirements.

        1. Sean you cannot compare the compute of AMD cards to the tech that runs on PhysX mate as PhysX doesn’t run on FP64 double precision.

Also it’s not a 28% hit, I haven’t played a single PhysX enabled game that has taken my frame rate below 60fps as I simply wouldn’t use it. I even disable graphic settings if it takes my frame rate below 60fps but PhysX runs flawlessly and if you have a second weaker GPU to run Physx then there isn’t even a performance deficit.

Of course people using really old, weak GPU’s that struggle to run the game as it is shouldn’t be attempting to use GPU PhysX but that is pretty self explanatory

          1. Sorry but did you not say that a 28% cut in performance using PhysX is acceptable on nVIDIA GPU’s because nVIDIA has lower compute?. I thought that’s what you typed mate?.
In any case PhysX uses the CUDA cores and not FP64 compute. nVIDIA made their Kepler 6xx and 7xx GPU’s gaming only GPU’s so have no FP64 double precision compute needed for maths work.

          2. I said 28% cut in performance is acceptable using Compute, as the image was about Tomb Raider and TressFX since AMD cards are superior with Compute.

          3. Oh right?. There isn’t a 28% cut using TressFX on nVIDIA cards either and TressFX doesn’t use FP64 double precision either mate. It just uses the GPU cores in single precision

          4. Yes well the Titan completely blows away 7970 using compute which is why it costs so much more than 780 despite only running games about 6fps faster. The Titan was the only Kepler consumer GPU with fully unlocked FP64 double precision compute which means it can be used as a productivity card working on maths. The reason for poor NVidia performance is because that is an ancient benchmark and the game was an AMD sponsored game so ran horribly at launch for nVIDIA GPU’s.
Like I said already TressFX and PhysX doesn’t use FP64 double precision compute otherwise 680 wouldn’t be able to run it at all as it’s a gaming only card.
If you look at more modern benchmarks there is nothing between 770 and 7970ghz Ed while running TressFX. In fact I now think nVIDIA are faster.

    2. It is no secret by now that the devs are paid by Nvidia to use Gameworks.

If it’s a good income then im happy for them.

      1. Well it´s because you didn´t understand what guys from DICE said. They didn´t say that PhysX is bad optimize, just said that physics in that detail will have performance drops. Didn´t you think that they mean unplayable with the same level of detail as Havok offers via scripting, right? 🙂

“It is no secret by now that the devs are paid by Nvidia to use Gameworks.”

Can you tell us from where you know that secret? Just don§t tell something like everybody know it. And what do you think how much cost imlementation of TressFX, Mantle or True audio?

    3. Well I have NEVER lost 30% performance using PhysX on nVIDIA cards, also my last set up was two 680’s and any game with PhysX on ULTRA was blazing fast. I don’t accept less than 60fps when gaming which means any graphics option that takes me below 60fps I disable it completely yet I have always ran Physx on ultra settings without this performance penalty.

You are right PhysX does use up some performance but not 30% on powerful GPU’s and anyone running a GPU just for PhysX has no performance issues at all….

Care to mention what games specifically run this poorly as I have played many games with PhysX and never ran less than 60fps with it enabled.

  3. Seems to be a alright game. Looks like a Dark Souls game if Dark souls had a Super X100 Easy Mode. It’s just Nice to see more and more Developers using PhysX/Gameworks the RIGHT way.

  4. i have been playing the press release for 2 days, 15 hours in the game and i like it, it’s a different kind of dark souls. Mostly 1v1 combat and lots of different options for every kind of character. I was hoping this will be good and it is, i give it a 8.3, tomorrow i will finish it and try it with a different class. Also the game is not very hard if you use everything it gives you but it is a challenge and a rewarding experience so far.

  5. Doesn’t all of these features come standard in both UE4 and Cryengine? I remember seeing their tech demos and specifically about those features.

    1. The particle effects come as standard but I don’t think they are given real time physics and are more or less canned animations. I could be wrong though.

None of these effects are in the console versions so these are all done in real time and not pre rendered animations.

      1. I know Cryengine has its own physics. I remember watching their reveal video and it was showing off the physics.

  6. Games like these need female characters with big 80085 and a little less armor to feel good. Sorry but fanservice>gameplay.
