Focus Home Interactive has released the launch trailer for The Surge. The Surge is a new action RPG that is inspired by the Dark Souls games, in which players will battle through a world gone mad as Warren, on his first day of work at CREO – a megacorporation that has been hit by a devastating catastrophe.
According to the press release, balancing risk and reward is key during The Surge’s combat, as the unique loot system gives you greater control over what you claim from defeated enemies. In visceral combat individually target specific body parts, damaging them with a combination of vertical and horizontal attacks before slicing the part off entirely. What you dismember directly determines what piece of equipment you loot.
To get the best loot you’ll need to take on the most difficult enemies, so positioning and speed are vital. Players can use their exo-enhanced dodges, blocks, ducks and jumps to avoid attacks while managing stamina, ensuring they’re always in the right place to strike the limb they want, or ready to avoid a potentially damning blow.
The Surge releases on May 16th.

looks fine for a trailer but ill never understand the need for hi tech thingies to use melee attacks lol. cant those robots just get a gun and shoot the guy? :p

This is their second attempt at getting this formula to work. Hopefully they learned from some of the shortcomings from Lords of the Fallen and are able to push this one into Souls level quality. Wouldn’t hurt to have more good soulslike games.
