Here is Mario Kart 8 running in 8K on CEMU 1.9.0c

YouTube’s member ‘Will’ has shared a video, showing Mario Kart 8 running in 8K on the latest version of the best WiiU emulator, CEMU 1.9.0c. Will used an NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080Ti in order to run this WiiU game in 8K (via supersampling techniques) and from the looks of it the game runs smoothly in such high resolutions.

To put things into perspective, Mario Kart 8 runs at 720p on WiiU and at 1080p on Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch. As such, we are looking at a resolution that is 36 times higher than the resolution for WiiU, and 16 times higher than the one for Nintendo Switch.

The fact that Mario Kart 8 is running via an emulator at these ridiculously high resolutions is also impressive. Naturally, there is a performance difference (and in some cases this difference is huge) between a proper PC game and an emulated game. So yeah, kudos to the team behind CEMU.

And to be honest, these really high resolutions make Nintendo’s games look gorgeous. It’s no secret that Nintendo’s games feature visuals with an incredible art style, and such high resolutions do benefit these games. Now imagine what a Nintendo game on the PC could have looked like.

Enjoy the video!

  1. Not only Nintendo but other console only games too will show benefit and truly shine when released on PC. Just look at bayonetta or even vanquish this year, both game benefited from higher resolution and extra details.
Let’s forget about them for a moment look at Nintendo’s flagship title zelda BOTW. This game on cemu at 4k texture pack with higher detailed shadows looks much better than what it’s “intended” platform has to offer.
Sometimes i think all those graphics and art designers don’t get enough justice. Their beautiful works are hid behind 720p or whatnot cheap graphics settings just to sell another cheap plastic box.

    1. Well said. On decent hardware Nintendo’s typically gorgeous cartoon-style graphics would look even more Pixar-like aka spectacular. Nintendo fanboys seldom ever seem willing to acknowledge this basic truth.

      1. If this game were released on PC it’d be forgotten. Vast majority of PC owners (that’d take interest in this game) arent savvy with game controllers. It’d be a dodgy keyboard affair, with local play virtually out the question and the hassles of starting PC’s up and managing game installs etc…
There’s a reason consoles still thrive today and why Switch is making Nintendo boat loads of money. Graphics is one minor factor in a game

          1. The fact you checked his post history makes you slight internet stalker. I don’t mean STALKER either friendo. Either way he’s a Nintedo kid

          2. Well, That’s all I use Disqus primarily for is N4G, and I’ll shoot down ppl that are wrong about Nintendo.

I’m a PC gamer, and have Vive. And I can claim that PC games are far from the pinnacle of game quality, on occasions yes, often not, hence why consoles are still wildly popular.

And if you don’t know what running a PC means, you don’t know anything. I can go from a shut down Switch system to being dead set in the middle of Zelda BOTW (right in-game, no intro screens), whilst standing in the middle of a football field no less, in 2 seconds dead flat.
And that detail aside, loading a brand new cart and booting Zelda can take maybe 15 secs. Many gaming PCs can take 30 secs to Post boot. Games require mass downloads/installs. I’ve seen ppl struggle with desktops my whole life long, in many, very very many cases patching and/or starting a single game can be 30 minutes of confusing Windows errors

And talking about PC users not being savvy with game controllers, its improving a lot, but still, many just fumble with often useless mouse keyboard setups (Ace for some games, useless for others). Sometimes just watching someone scramble for a free USB port is tiring enough, then your often hopelessly stuck in front of a desktop mess.

Switch and its games will never represent the most top-end gaming, but it trounces what PCs are capable of in so many areas.

Now, when a few ppl start actually aquiring 4K monitors, we can whine on about how big Nintendo missed out with CEMUs 8K capabilities

          3. Re: “I’ll shoot down ppl that are wrong about Nintendo”,
Except you didn’t do that in your initial reply to me. All you did was embarrass yourself by having uttered a load of ignorant nonsense while yet again obsessively flying the flag for Nintendo.

Your stated reasoning for why “consoles are still wildly popular” is breathtakingly simplistic but you’re free to believe whatever you want to believe no matter how misguided it may be.

As for your claimed “hassles of starting PC’s up and managing game installs etc” then you’ve failed to make the case to back up those bold words in any meaningful way. I happen to own a Nintendo Wii U, among many other Nintendo and other brand consoles, so are well aware of what a chore it is to operate its chronically slow and extremely limited functionality dashboard, the hassles due to its woefully inadequate storage, etc. I note that Switch also features an abysmally low amount of storage memory in addition to a host of other issues resulting from poor design and it having been rushed to market.

You failed to in any way adequately justify your nonsense claim that the “Vast majority of PC owners (that’d take interest in this game) arent savvy with game controllers”. You’ve since added more nonsense with the confused assertion that “Sometimes just watching someone scramble for a free USB port is tiring enough, then your often hopelessly stuck in front of a desktop mess.” Again, these nonsensical claims are an echo of what hopelessly ignorant console brand fanboys say on YouTube.

Please do specify all of the “so many areas” in which Nintendo’s current console “trounces” PC, in your opinion. I promise not to laugh… too much.

Re: “when a few ppl start actually aquiring 4K monitors”,
            More ignorance.

          4. You’re an idiot.

You know, if you’re gonna rebutt a reply, you could try giving more examples.

You can’t just argue back with
“you’re wrong”, “you’re wrong and wrong again”

My Switch has about 150GB storage, and it’ll never be filled. No game installs. Switch isn’t a PC, its a different device.

And yes, exactly as I explained it. I’ve watched the best of the best tech head PC enthusiasts time and time again stall playing a game literally for even up to hours just trying to get an update work.
I was at a friends several months ago who was just trying to startup a free XBX360 he got.
Something went wrong, spent 30 minutes messing around with logins. XBOX live acc, EA logins after that or what have you

          5. So you flat out last the argument after having repeatedly embarrassed yourself with your Nintendo fanboyism and nonsensical rubbish about PC and have now stooped to ad hominem attacks. How predictable.

Re: “You can’t just argue back with “you’re wrong””,
I can when you’re wrong. Which you have been repeatedly.

Re: “My Switch has about 150GB storage”,
No, it does not. Your Switch plus its optional accessories such as a microSD card and/or external USB device totals 150GB.

            Re: “No game installs”
            Another lie.

Re: “Switch isn’t a PC, its a different device.”
Yes, it’s a mobile device based on +2 year old Nvidia technology which Nintendo further gimped by massively downclocking it so it doesn’t even run as fast as the now ancient Nividia Shield which uses the same core Nvidia Tegra technology.

Re: “I’ve watched the best of the best tech head PC enthusiasts time and time
again stall playing a game literally for even up to hours just trying
            to get an update work”,
I’m wondering if English is your first language.

Re: “I was at a friends several months ago who was just trying to startup a free XBX360 he got. Something went wrong…”,
Citing one individual example as though it’s in any way representative of the general mass experience and then using it in a silly fanboy argument to points score over a ‘rival’ console is what children do. Perhaps I should list a number of examples of Switch’s myriad reported problems because by your flawed logic that’d make it as poor as those ‘rival’ consoles you’re trashing.

Anyway, enjoy your Nintendo cheerleading because it’s been a hoot laughing at your nonsense but like all console brand fanboys you’ve become extremely tedious very quickly. Good day to you.

          6. I got little reply time here, but you’re still just crying “I’m wrong”

Switch games don’t require an install, you argued against it.
THEY DON’T (non-obligatory updates do occur)

My Switch requires add ons for my 150GB odd storage
No device on the market doesn’t require add ons to accomodate their usage. Specifically citing Switch’s direct rivals PS4/XB1, its been a forever debate about the insufficiencies of their internal storages (4K content requiring even beyong 100 GB for a single title). And Msoft feels with X1X in the latest example that they require a 500US version of the same device to remain relevant.

And my English is fine, you clearly can’t comprehend

          7. Enough of your continual refusal to address all ridiculous claims and assertions you were called out on, your half-truths, highly selective facts and rabid Nintendo fanboyism. In common with all wilfully blind console brand fanboys and corporate apologists you’re crushingly predictable and rather boring.

Not that you’ll heed anything you’ve been told by myself and others because fanboyism is like a religion to you people so I’m done with wasting my time on you. Good day.

      2. Most Nintendo fanboys don’t even know this truth is possible. They have no knowledge of these things my friendo.

    1. Not Trolled as such. Your average PC player isn’t gonna have a top line GPU in their rig. Or even a necessarily a ‘good’ one for that matter

      1. Yes, but you don’t consider the huge overhead here that the emulator adds just to run a game that was meant to run on consoles. If too-full-of-pride Nintendo ever released their games on PC, we could achieve the same effects with much less powerful hardware.

        1. True, alas, even still as I commented elsewhere, MK 8 would still faulter with a PC audience.
And Nintendo won’t just suddenly become a PC producer. It’d mean changing their whole business, and basically destroying their whole Switch say for example which has become a wild success. There are business advantages to Ninty having their own hardware. They pay no royalties to anyone ie Steam, and others can pay license fees to Nintendo to release on their systems, and Nintendo has better visibility and cheaper promotional costs for their own software on their own devices.

Becoming a PC dev wouldn’t automatically make Nintendo an infinitely rich top line dev company

          1. “as I commented elsewhere, MK 8 would still faulter with a PC audience”

Repeating the same opinion won’t make it any less wrong no matter how many times you say it.

          2. I’m 33 years old, I don’t think I’ve barely heard of anyone playing an animated racer on PC in my life let alone seen it.

      2. But most people interested in emulation have a capable gpu. Running at 8K is not needed. For most people 720p or 1080p will do. Other few will stick to 1440p or 4k. I can play Zelda @ 4k downsampled to 1080p and it’s wonderful.
As for the trolling, I meant the fact that Nintendo is freaking triggered because they can’t protect their IP from emulation.

  2. Absolutely not trolling, guys.. but at the same time, this isn’t an uncharted 4, destiny 2, gears of war, driveclub, god of war 4, the Witcher 3 or Horizon zero dawn, with its 5-5.5 gb of memory packed with ultra crisp super hd resolution textures, super complex AI, gigantic world levels, millions of polygons… ultra complex particle effects, shaders, etc etc…

Now, try to run these games on pc, at 8k…

Mario kart, zelda, splatoon, and pretty much everything, use simplistic graphics, with barely no ‘true’ textures, often replaced by simple flat colors, or a 2-3 color simple gradients, no Hollywood fx, no 500k polygon characters, with only 3 or 4 small foes on the screen, simple animations, no AI handling 32-128 chracters , positions, speed, with tonnes of explosions, smoke effects, etc, no huge calculations handling ammo velocity, trajectory, angle/speed of decay, with trillions of memory allocations for keeping track of debris, destroyed walls-buildings and its millions of tiny bricks, stones. ..

I mean, i am sure 90%of wiiu title, or even on switch, could easily be ran at 16k120fps on a modern computer… i mean, display a 1000k poly main character, a few static clouds made of one white shading, a mountain made with 3 colors ( link’s horse on the latest zelda is made of 3 shades of black/dark grey…) foes have 3 or 4 shades of orange/red, grass is 2 shades of green… and so on and so on…. i mean, with such simplistic visuals running on 8years old core components, as cheapest as possible… no wonder why a fast computet can run/emulate everything at 4k or higher.

As i already calculated, the switch cost between 100 and 150$ to manufacture. 125$ should be exact. Now, add in a few chargers, cables, accessories, that are almost mandatory , for each 100 dollars, nintendo make 75 to 85$. + 1 game, and voila, in average, each switch bought, nintendo is making more than 300 to 400$ NET. Sold at 299$, nintendo surely makes from 160 to 180$, on each switch sold.
Of course, with such cheap components, one shouldn’t expect much from a system like the wiiU or Switch… with very limited power.
Plus, the less there will be great 3rd party titles available for the switch, the more ‘nintendo’ games or ‘published by nintendo’ games will be sold.
Less than 1% of big great 3rd party titles will come to the switch. The switch will/already is a pure nintendo-box… which is exactly what nintendo wants:
A big 3rd party title is sold, making, say, 200 millions. Nintendo might only get 10-20 million from that cash. Instead of buying the latest mario or luigi, and give 400 millions to nintendo, gamers will rather spend and give their money to, say, activision or EA.
There we have it, you hear it first here: including 3rd party support and allowing those big games to be sold on the switch, IT IS the worst competition nintendo can have. With nintendo only titles, nintendo can easily make billions and billions, every single year. If they have 30 or 40 huge top-selking titles like destiny, on the switch, out of 1 billion in sales, nintendo might only receive 50 or 100 millions. ..while preventing people from buying other nintendo games, as all their money and time will go to , say, destiny. Whereas, if nintendo sells a mario and makes 1 billion, they might make 950 millions net out of it… so… why having the 3rd party competition prevent you from making billions, on your system ?
