Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios showcased earlier today a tech demo of Forza 5 running on the PC via its new API, DirectX 12. Well, time to take a look at what was shown. YouTube’s channel ‘Bright Side Network’ has uploaded the video showing off Forza 5 running with constant 60fps at 1080p on the PC. The PC that was used was equipped with an Nvidia GTX Titan Black. Factual PS4 Hardware Advantages: +6 CUs, +560 GFlops (44% greater), +16 ROPs, +6 ACEs/CQs, better GPGPU support, better performing CPU, and faster unified memory. PS4 OS may also have less overhead or reserves.
PS4 will have better performing games for the entire generation, you can’t overcome a hardware gap with better software.

PSSL – Shader Language (DX11.2/OpenGL 4.4 feature sets)
GNMX – Wrapper API (Higher Level than GNM, but lower level than PSSL)
GNM – Low Level API (This is the PS4’s “Mantle-like” API; For Advanced Development)
RIIIGHT becuase ps4 is the god of anything, get over yourself low level acess api always existed on consoles and the only reason it didnt exist on pc is because directx had a monopoly in pc games, no one used anything other than that. There is another lower level acess api on pc besides mantle that is being worked on right now.

I’d be more impressed if they used a lower card and achieved the same thing. DX12 is supposed to be closer to the metal so it should be more efficient, no? I mean…. this new card should be able to achieve that even via brute force… IMHO.

They probably used a Titan just to make sure because the game wasn’t optimised and running far more detail than the retail version.
On the other hand… Ars Technica is running an article that says DX12 will have performance benefits for existing hardware… (which is code for not just the latest)…. I’d post a link but then it’d probably require authorization and this post would get lost.
Also “On the mobile side, Qualcomm Engineering VP Eric Demers said that features like reduced CPU overhead and the resultant lower energy draw in DirectX 12 are “music to my ears from a power standpoint.”
If that’s true that’d also be a boon to mobile PCs (notebooks and all in ones that ouse mobile parts) so they don’t become either wind tunnels or hand grills during gaming sessions. But that’s something I’d have to see to believe.

Granted you have to pay for online gameplay (not features, as they still work without plus), but you’re getting tons of free games each month. Also they’re not the suckish type either. Just now we had Outlast, right on its release. Furthermore, sharing of your gameplays, pics, etc… doesn’t require plus. You’ve still got dynamic online support.
Not to say Microsofts service isn’t good, as on quite the contrary, they probably offer a much more robust and connected experience online. Not to mention, their recent VOIP is spot on.

There was no downgrade, those comparison shots are using 720p 2k bitrate youtube footage. There is PLENTY of raw footage of the retail game available that proves no downgrade happened.

And the fact they’re using NVIDIA hardware not AMD. The game they showcased was more better than the final version anyway, more detail, more effects, wouldn’t have been optimised but I see no reason to use a Titan. A mid range PC can keep up or and surpass both consoles like a FX6300, AMD 260X, GTX750Ti.

See the difference in the video showing Final Fantasy 14 with dynamic shadows during the day and evening. BTW, that video is in 240p moron and you can still see the dynamic shadows on the character because the PC has the power to do it. Devs give us settings according to our hardware, consoles they make the discussion for you.
