  1. Was the original outcast good? While I certainly don’t mind aged graphics, the original outcast is one of the most ugliest game I’ve ever seen. If there is a truly a good game underneath the hideous exterior I must play it. So, someone convince me.

    1. Outcast was a very impressive looking title back in 1999, with advanced technology such as voxel based terrain, bloom, depth of field, real time shadows, reflections…

And yes, this game fantastic, definitely on my top 10 favorites of all time (I’ve played hundreds of PC games from early 80’s to nowadays, mind you).

    2. I asked an NPC where is something and instead of telling me, he raised his hand and showed me its direction. No compass, no marker, no glowing dot on a map. Later, a wild tribe chased me in their forest while I was trying to find a temple.

      1. and then you started shooting them to the head, you run out of ammo and they killed you because they are bulletsponges. The game in a nutshell.

    3. It is very, very f’ing good. At least for its time, there’s no telling if you could enjoy it today.

Outdated graphics aside (not an issue for me), you wake up in a strange, huge, open alien world and start questing right away. There’s no hand holding.

    4. I stopped playing it becaause you had zero ammo and resources and the entire map has no indication of where to go, or not to go, so 90% of the time you took the wrong turn and enemies started shooting you, while you did not have enough ammo to fight them off. Also slow moving projectiles that enemies can dodge easilly and they are the biggest bulletsponges i have ever seen. Then there is the saving system, which you had to pull out a crystal and hold it down for a few seconds.

I was not gonna put myself through a buggy game with horrible visuals that give you hard time to see what is going on with no indication of where to go or what to do while the entire world is a identical copy pasted trial and error fest of large groups of enemies that have horribly cringy looks and pain sounds who are utter bulletsponges and dodge your attacks and you constantly run out of ammo or health and even if you gonna grind and save all the time, you still gonna make little process due to the structure of the game and the horrible saving system.

But besides that it was an early open world game with very nolinear levels good voice acting and even a fps view on a third person game. Hopefully this time they make it work.

        1. Check out my reply to him, he got all of it wrong.

Oh, and I forgot to add before, the soundtrack is brilliant, performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra & Chorus.

      1. Looks like you never left the 1st region and didn’t progress enough.
For the first few hours it is pretty much a stealth game. Later you can craft ammo but it will never be a shooter.

The saving system was great because you had to be absolutely safe before using it. And no handholding is a good thing. You just have to listen well and read a lot of the dialogue carefully.

      2. Actually, there’s plenty of ammo lying around pretty much everywhere. And you can craft ammo too.

There are plenty indications of where to go. Mind you, there’s no magic GPS system, but NPCs will tell you exactly where to go, for example “south east of temple X”, and when close enough, they will even point at the place/NPC.

You can clearly see enemies portrayed as red dots in the resizable minimap. In any case they won’t attack you until you’re really close to them. And you can tell they’re enemies because they dress differently and are holding, you know… guns.

The enemies are bulletsponges at first but the game tells you many times through NPCs that you can do side quests to weaken them by sabotaging their supplies. In fact the NPCs strongly discourage you to engage enemies until you weaken them first, but you can do as you please.

The game looked amazing for 1999, showcasing (for the first time ever, I believe) real time shadows and reflections.

The entire world isn’t identical, you just never left the first region, lol.

What’s exactly wrong with the saving system? You equip the ‘GAAMSAV’ item and you hit ‘E’. Done. The purpose of this is so you can’t save the game in the middle of a fight to cheese it out.

In the first region you can be healed for free by the Shamaz, there are also medikits.

    1. You should ought to look at the old game again, it’s very much a complete makeover. With animations still looking really rough tho. Hopefully that’ll improve before its release.

      1. yes i know but,the movement is still basic and cartoonish, and the old one had a bunch of features,in that time it was like…beta, think it should be brought to the ” amazing”
