First gameplay trailer for the hack ‘n’ slash action rogue-lite, Morbid Metal

SCREEN JUICE has released the first gameplay trailer for Morbid Metal. And, at first, I got really excited about it. But then, I saw that it’s a rogue-lite game and my excitement completely vanished.

In Morbid Metal, players can shapeshift between 4 different character to slaughter enemies with powerful combos. Players can switch characters in real-time to unleash their power and fight their way through hordes of deadly machines and intense bosses.

They will progress through semi-procedurally generated levels in various environmental biomes. These biomes will range from desolate wastelands of the far future, to the overgrown ruins of mankind.

Now while you will be able to upgrade your characters and progressively grow stronger, you will lose all of those upgrades once you die. And that’s what puts me off about Morbid Metal (and all rogue-lite games). Once you die, you’ll have to start all over again.

Anyway, SCREEN JUICE will launch the game on Steam Early Access this Summer. So, if you are a fan of this genre, you should definitely watch the following trailer!

    1. For God's sakes, "rouge" means "red" in French.
      It's ROGUE.
Rogue-like, roguelike, or rogue-lite for those that have simpler real-time gameplay.
Can't believe I still see this mistake in 2025.

    2. This is a hack and slash, open your eyes! and don't you dare throw Roguelite or Rougelikes under the bus!

  1. Great catchy music.🎵
The game couldn't look more generic and boring though.

I feel nothing for games when there are no humans, or mythical creatures or something. Here, every enemy, and even the main character, looks like a robot?
    I prefer living things.
It gives off a feeling that is uninspired, cold and disconnected from reality.
Oh, a German developer, huh? Now that makes sense.

And the fighting mechanics… I'm just tired of these games where you just lock enemies in mid-air and keep hitting them endlessly… Sigh. Soooo boring.
    What is this, Dragon Ball?

And… A traditional Asian setting? AGAIN?
How many games taking place in Asia did we get since last year? 50?
    Yaaaaaawn…

  2. Back when the term "hack'n'slash" was invented, it exclusively meant isometric RPG's. F*** this g*y new world
