Ubisoft has released a new trailer for its upcoming open world FPS, Far Cry 4. This trailer is dedicated to the game’s Limited Edition; an edition that includes 3 exclusive missions and one ridiculously powerful Harpoon gun: “The Impaler.” In addition, players will team up with Hurk as he seeks to finish his quest and find redemption. In order to spark interest, Ubisoft has also announced that those who pre-order the game will get a free Limited Edition upgrade. Enjoy!

40 seconds of gameplay, 1 minute of crap. Tyvm Ubi, I so have faith in you. It looks so stiff in some way. Facial animations sucks bigtime btw.
This game is gearing up for launch and they’ve only really shown ONE area. Is this still open world? Starting to think this really is as rushed as it seems. They probably planned on making another FC3 addon like Blood Dragon but the suits said “call it Far Cry 4 and sell it at full price”.
Good thing on-disc DLC is confirmed though, I was worried Ubisoft would drop the ball on that one.
I got some information someone who played it said they fixed the pacing and the shooting mechanics. Other than that the game really hasnt gotten alot of info.
What does that mean, fixed? Of course neither pacing nor shootouts were perfect by any measure but how should I know what Ubisoft or this “someone” think was wrong with those things?
All I do know is it looks like Far Cry 3 and they didn’t announce any major changes or improvements. You know, usually they SAY they’ve changed and improved a lot and then they release the same game over and over again instead. So now if they don’t even promise anything what are they going to deliver? In one of the early demos I already saw the main character climbing one of those walls with rope hanging off them. This means they haven’t even improved the movement system, there are still only select locations where climbing works and in many places where it intuitively should work it doesn’t. AC, COD, Crysis, Splinter Cell, Dishonored, they all make climbing work. Three of them are in first person, two of them are even Ubisoft games. There really was no excuse to not have universal climbing mechanics in Far Cry 3 and here we are looking at the sequel this feature is still missing entirely. What more do I really need to know about this game?
I am not defending ubisoft, but games nowdays do look and play alike and sequels are hard to make. It is better to work on the game and improve it like say fix the combat and the enemy spawning, get a better story add new vehicles and weapons and some new mechanics than make it from scratch, everytime they make a game from scratch they end up lacking a lot of things compared to the previous game.
You’re making a lot of sense in theory but this is not what Ubisoft is doing in practise. They are not fixing anything major. Have you seen the new gameplay videos? The enemies are as retarded as before and as I already said the climbing would be THE obvious thing to fix. There are tons of unfinished, poorly balanced features in Far Cry 3 and they’re all back virtually unchanged in Far Cry 4. You can kill any enemy from any distance without alerting anyone, you can “sneak” around in broad daylight in the middle of an enemy camp without anyone noticing you, you still can’t climb unless they arbitrarily placed an object that allows you to and they even added more weapons that instantly kill anyone. If anything they are making the game even less challenging.
The overall impression I’m getting is that this is an “alternate Far Cry 3”. A parallel game rather than a sequel. You even have to unlock the same exact skills again, just like in Assassin’s Creed games where each game you start out with a minimal feature set and then have to grind or simply wait until a certain part in the game until they allow you to use the previously existing features again. A true sequel in my eyes would start out where the previous game ended. You get everything you’ve mastered so far and then you expand on that because there are new enemy types immune to your previous super-weapons or whatever. You level up, they level up, you level up, they level up. That’s my understanding of progression in singleplayer games. Instead Ubisoft games force you to repeat the same process in different levels.
I watched 1 hour and 24 minutes of gameplay. Nothing is “changed” you climb up towers, you get free guns, you unlock outposts which unlock sidemissions. They changed the skill tree and added a bazillion of new things.
It is the new guns, the new vehicles the new mechanics like grappling hooks and karma and factions that will make the game better.
Making the game from scratch would turn like this 4 years development 100 milion development cost and when the game is out it will have less than its predecessor.
its better to use far cry 3 as a base that the stealth and the engine work and build upon it than make it from cratch.
THIS IS UBISOFT, THEY DONT EXACTLY MAKE NEW GAMES
“A true sequel in my eyes would start out where the previous game ended”
You mean with jack carver?
The far cry games are unrelated.
No, not with Far Cry 1 stuff! With Far Cry 3 stuff. A true sequel to Far Cry 3 would start out with you having all the skills and tools from Far Cry 3. Then it would elaborate on that.
I have absolutely no problem with them reusing everything from Far Cry 3 but they need to make a NEW game, not repeat what the last game did. The skill tree is part of that. You can’t seriously expect me to be thrilled about unlocking the same exact features I’ve already had access to at the end of Far Cry 3. I’m sure the skill tree came up in your 1.5 hour gameplay video. Take a look at it, it’s the same sh!t.
Again, noone is asking them to reinvent the wheel. Keep what works but elaborate and improve upon it. That’s what they aren’t doing. They aren’t adding anything meaningful, just riding on an elephant which somehow makes you very hard to hit for enemies. And they aren’t fixing any of the previous game’s huge problems such as the movement system and the AI.
But each fc game is radically diffirent. Also fc4 has a diffirent character and a diffirent skill tree system.
From what i see while fc4 has alot of fc3 stuff they added a bazillion of new things in fc4.
I dont see how is this didffirent than ac, if anything its better.
The skills on the skill tree are the same. You have to unlock stuff all over again that you already unlocked in the last game.
Bazillion new things? Elephants, helicopter, two or three weapons. These are very basic, mostly cosmetic additions that a MOD for FC3 could have provided if there were mod tools (!)
It’s not different from AC, it’s the same principle of using minimal resources to create something that looks just “new” enough to be marketed as a new game. Same as AC.
yeah but you got the wingsuit from the start and the outposts are larger with more enemies, seems to me this is indeed intended for those who played fc3 and learned its mechanics.
Wingsuit from the start, is that confirmed? The outposts with more enemies I am skeptical about. All I’ve seen were more waves of enemies spawning in one after the other, not actually outposts/arenas filled with more troops. This game still releases on the last-gen consoles and AI numbers are mostly dictated by the lack of memory in those systems. A larger outpost is worth nothing if pre-alarm it’s filled with few opponents, or worse, if the opponents are even dumber than in the past.
