  1. Its only a 3D vision of Dota 2! boring! still i better be way wrong…not that much RPGs being released …

But that little man jump about 15 meters…thats horrible! lmao!

  2. I really can’t enjoy the fact that the game is running at max settings due to youtubes video compression.

    1. It seems like Youtube compression is getting far worse than it’s ever been. I guess that’s what happens when you have a monopoly on video streaming.

    2. Don’t be so quick to blame youtube’s compression. Its not perfect yes, but its not nearly as bad as people seem to make it out to be. A lot of the bad quality comes from the original file. If you originally render it out with specs not matching those of youtube, it will mess things up.

  3. Damn xbox joypad. Why don’t they use the superior mouse and keyboard controls if it’s the pc version? These days you can’t even tell if it’s the pc version unless you read the video

  4. This was kind of boring, but i still hope for the best 🙂 The Witcher 3 however is what i’ll keep coming back to. This dragon age will last me probably a single playthru ;p

  5. Graphics are nice, gameplay looks overdone and not that much fun.
If this is level 12, will I be able to see anything but light effects overflow on the screen at lvl 20-30?

      1. And what about combat mechanics, choices and consequences, writing, world interactivity, NPC AI, etc, etc, etc…?

          1. You are the typical today’s target audience for these so called RPGs. I bet you loved DA2, Mass Effect series series and Oblivion. As long as there is shiny stuff on screen and no thinking is required whatsoever, it’s GOTY.

          2. I’m not offended… Why would I be? Someone disagreeing with you on a message board doesn’t mean they’re making anything ‘personal’ Welcome to the internet!

I just choose to call out d**b statements as I read them, there’s nothing personal about it. Your reply (Those are nice, but they’re not fun.) clearly shows you wouldn’t recognize ‘fun’ even if it jumped out of your a*s and bit you on the nose. Again, this isn’t ‘personal’.

          3. so now we can’t like mass effect because you don;t like it. I love Origins, hate DA2 and love the mass effect series. Stop condescending you are not that special.

          4. I was obviously stereotyping HIM, because HIS reply was beyond retarded. Jeez! Everyone is way too sensitive here.

For your information, there’s nothing wrong with liking Mass Effect series, I myself enjoyed it for what it was. I just don’t like the fact that it’s what it passes for ‘RPG’ these days.

          5. well that sounds kinda elitist, mass effect truly is a great rpg, one of the best i have played, it was great to play all three of them one after another and have my character transfer between them. What are those game you think are true rpg’ s ? And no, no planescape/fallout/baldur s gate/daggerfall.

          6. Elitist? Whatever. Mass Effect is a good third person shooter action game (albeit heavily consolized), nothing more.

You want good RPGs but those that you mentioned don’t count? Uh… ok, Ultima 7, Jagged Alliance 2, Betrayal at Krondor, Darklands, Temple of Elemental Evil, Wizardry 6, 7 and 8, Knights of the Chalice, Dark Sun, Wasteland, Arcanum… oh wait, I get it now!! You don’t like old games. Hey, no biggie, there are plenty of good 3D ones: Gothic 1 and 2, KOTOR 2, The Witcher 1 and 2, Arx Fatalis, Alpha Protocol, New Vegas, Bloodlines, etc.

Mass Effect are linear shooters with cringe-worthy dialogues which have no consequence whatsoever (except which crew member you want to screw) Sure, you can choose a class for your character and weapons loadout but that’s about it.

          7. omg, i was so sure i will be reading a list of games elitist like to put in our faces to show us what amazing taste in rpg games they have. I already mentioned that listing some games doesn’t mean s**t, i and i think others as well, played them when they were released and pls, mass effect is a better rpg than a lot of them. I personally grew beyond listing games that make me look like i have gaming background a long time ago, maybe before you even got a pc. I have been gaming since 92 so there is nothing you can list that i have not played. Gothic 1 2 i even finished all risens and 3 and arcania – beyond the great environment the gothic games are nothing compared to mass effect. I love them, especially the first one, but let’s not kid ourselves. Jagged alliance 2 is not really a rpg, it’s a tactical turned base action with rpg elements if you count increasind stats and equipment as rpg elements. Finished that when it was released, how old were you then ? Wizardry – sure, nice games, for their time. What exactly makes wizardry 8 so much better than mass effect. Please enlighten me. Arx Fatalis, an ok ish dungen crawler, but better than mass effect ? Probably, after a high dose of LSD. TOEE – a s**t rpg made better by it’s implementation of d&d rules and combat.
But hey, you forgot fallout 1 2, eye of the beholder, ultima underworld, kotor, icewind dale and the infinity engine games, morrowind and so many others. I
In other words, we have seen elitists like you typing the same crap and trumping the same games by the thousands, you are nothing special and your taste for old rpg’s doesn’t automatically make newer games shit. Also listing old games everybody knows about doesn;t make you seem like you have gaming background.

  6. Argh… It looks more like Dragon Age II than Origins. Pointless video BTW. No K/M and tactical view was shown in the presentation.

    1. Was about to post that, but it was obvious all that PR speak about ‘having taken into account the feedback from DA 2’ was complete bullshit. Just like PB did with Risen 3.

Game may be open world now with Frostbite 3 engine or whatever, but it still plays like that turd Dragon Age 2 lol.

  7. … youtube taking away all the fun… damn quality. We needs an alternative method to upload vids and can actually notice what is happening on the screen. Almost 2015…

  8. this looks like sh*t just like da2 did….nothing of it is appealing. origins is still and will always be the best in this saga and the fact that they dont support CUSTOM CHARACTER portraits is just absolutely re**rded

  9. First of all, it was YOU who asked me to name RPGs. You were gaming since ’92? Congratulations! Me since ’87 and I don’t see how that is relevant to the discussion at hand but since you brought up your ‘maturity’ – which by the way is not reflected at all in the way you write, but whatever.

Jagged Alliance is a million times more ‘RPG’ than Mass Effect, pal. I already told you I enjoyed the ME series but let’s not kid ourselves, it’s a shooter with a little (meaningless) customization, fake dialogue choices, etc. But since you finished Risen 2, 3, ARCANIA and god knows what other trash, while at the same time calling TOEE ‘s**t’, I think it’s safe to assume you have and extremely poor taste in video games and you’re just out to get a quick gaming fix with flashy graphics and streamlined console mechanics.

By the way, do you have any idea what elitist means?

    1. look dude, if you like a game so much that doesn;t make it the be all end all of games and if you go and read reviews of toee they say the same thing. Lame story, many bugs, but at the time it’s implementation of new d&d rules made it ok. Still not even close to classics like baldurs gate planescape or icewind.
Once in a while someone like you comes out and trows shit at some great games saying they s*ck, that we have no clue about games and that’s why we like them, kinda like what you implied in your dissing of mass effect, a great rpg, with a story and characters and choices and consequences that all your listed games combined did not have.
      http://www.gog.com/game/jagged_alliance_2
Show me where it says rpg in it’s description; how much of a story did that game have. Turned based squad tactical, idiot, not rpg.
as for elitist – read below and see where those adjectives fit you and your condescending reply.

I grew tired of reading shit from guys like you regarding newer games, be them rpg or action or whatever, and see them listing the same shitty list of over talked about old game as the ones they like as if that suddenly makes their opinion worth more. Guess what, i doesn’t. And if you think playing those old games makes you have more taste or understanding or be better than us poor dumb schmucks that play on consoles and are stupid enough to like mass effect or dragon age, think again. We played them, enjoyed them and moved on to like and enjoy good newer games also. But we can see their limitations and can appreciate other stuff as well.

      1. So you finally caved in and resorted to insulting and not understanding a single word I wrote. Not surprised, though.

I never ‘dissed’ Mass Effect, I said -at least twice- that I enjoyed the series. Do I need to repeat one more time that I enjoyed your beloved game?

Reviews said TOEE had bugs? Wait, you actually pay attention to reviews? REALLY? Oh boy… Anyway, here are a couple of ground-shacking shockers for you: Most games ship with bugs, and Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 had hundreds upon hundreds of bugs that only got fixed by modders. Another one: Skyrim got praised to high heavens by the press and yet it had at least two game-stopping bugs (I ran into those, mind you) So yeah, just keep feeding on what the ‘professional reviewers’ tell you.

”choices and consequences that all your listed games combined did not have.” Now that takes the mother of cakes. What game did you play? Were you intoxicated while you were playing? I know Mass Effect has a story and characters (hell, even Super Mario has that), but ”choices and consequences that all your listed games combined did not have.” With this utterly ridiculous quote your blind fanboyism comes to light, as well as your lack of experience with any CRPG whatsoever. Choices in ME are merely cosmetic (or sexual) and consequences are non-existant (do I need to remind you of the Rachni Queen?) That was awful.

I don’t base my statements, unlike you, on what a product page says about a video game. I played both JA and ME series, and the logical conclusion for any sane person that actually PLAYED those games is that JA is a million times more of an RPG than ME. It’s simply logic, regardless if you like or don’t like turn-based combat.

You assume too much and can’t hold a civilized discussion properly without getting all sensitive and defensive, that is your problem. AGAIN, I liked ME!!!!! Get it? I LIKED IT. I like new stuff, where do you come off assuming what I like and don’t like? You think you got what it takes to judge one’s character but clearly you don’t, because you’re so blind with fanboyism that you can’t even put 2 and 2 together.

As I said I like new stuff, and old stuff too, but the difference is that I can be critical. If a game is shit, be it old (like Ultima 8, Pool of Radiance Ruins of Myth Drannor, Lionheart, Neverwinter Nights 2, Dungeon Siege, etc) or new (like Oblivion, Dragon Age 2, Fallout 3, The First Templar, Risen 2, Arcania, Mass Effect 2, etc) then they are shit. For different and varied reasons of course.

You console players (as you called yourself) take offense instantly if anyone criticizes a game you like and automatically you label them ‘elitist’, as you did with me. Grow up.

  10. amazingly idiotic. first where the hell did i call myself a console gamer idiot ? Show me that. You can;t. Your whole reply says nothing actually. I did not “cave in” it;s just that it’s very hard to take someone who puts words in my mouth and invents things i said seriously. Elitist, did you get it ? Yeah, just because you list old games that every elitist sh*t lists when trying to sound smart or knowledgeable doesn;t mean you are. It certainly does not entitle you to make condescending posts about us poor fools that do not know better and like sh**ty games like ME, when the true gems are the ones you like, old tired crap. Why exactly is your taste in games more relevant than ours ? Cause you can name wizardry ? Cause you played some ultima game ? Look at you, comparing arx fatalis with mass effect, continuing to call JA2 an RPG :)))))) and trying to make TOEE the game it never was. Jagged Alliance, the RPG. AHAHAHHAHA. It;s as much of an rpg as Fallout Tactics is. Of course, if you say so than that’s how it must be 🙂

Oh, now you like ME. Then why did you post your first post trying to sound better than us fools who like shiny sh*t ( ME ). Now you like it, well what is the reason for that post then ? Ah ? Contradicting yourself a bit aren;t you.
Again, reviews. No, I say TOEE has sh*t story, many bugs and it’s only redeming feature is it’s implementation of combat using dnd 3 rules. I say that because i have played it, and most of the games you listed and many more. ( i still don;t know how i did it being the console gamer i am ) I did but you don;t see me making condescending posts where i affirm my superiority against the troves of fools that like a game i do not.
I hate condescending re**rds and i will call them out wherever i see them. You are one of them.

    1. Great. Keep on hurling insults, it suits your 11 year old mentality actually.

You said, quote: ”us poor dumb schmucks that play on consoles” Do I really need to point this stuff out to you? Can’t you just for a moment quit raging at your monitor and read your own post?

Not now, as you falsely claim, but six days ago, in my first actual reply to you I stated that I liked ME series for what it was (a third person shooter) and continued to make that plainly clear to you in subsequent replies. At this point I can do no other thing that recommend you a good eye doctor. So you see, I never contradicted myself. Angry much? The point of the whole thing, that you completely missed, by the way, because you thought I was ‘dissing’ ME was that they’re not actually RPGs. They’re shooters with some light RPG touches. And that, as much as it hurts your delicate feelings, is a fact.

I will quote you now regarding the classic RPGs because you seem to have a problem recognizing your own words: “old tired crap”. You don’t like ‘old games’ (which is monumentally stupid to me – I guess you don’t like old movies either just for the sake of being old, eh?) but, whatever, I never actually criticized that. The problem exists when new kids on the block try to pass newly released stuff for thing they are not. Simply that.

TOEE does not use 3rd edition DnD rules (I guess the review you read was wrong). As far as its s**t story goes, ME series had a worst story by a long shot, plagued by plot holes, inconsistencies (lol ME 2) and a writing tone aimed at impressionable teenagers.

”Why exactly is your taste in games more relevant than ours?” I would change the word ‘taste’ with ‘experience’ or ‘knowledge’. And are you kidding? that’s how things actually work, you know. YOU HAVE TO KNOW what it is you’re talking about, get it? You can’t possibly state that objectively, quote: ”mass effect is a better rpg than a lot of them” because it makes you look like you don’t know s**t about video games, let alone RPGs.

      1. 3.5 whatever. Again, you think you have rpg knowledge which you try to show by listing the same games everybody lists when trying to sound smart. You think that entitles you to make condescending posts regarding us liking a certain game that for you is not a rpg, more of an action whatever. Where do you draw the line, what is a true rpg. How is ME less of an rpg than arx fatalis ? I guess KOTOR was also not a rpg. If i played the same games you did plus many others in the same genre, does that mean i have more knowledge than you ? Tired old crap – yeah, some of those games are that. Tired – we grew tired of playing them, reading about how “great” they are and how modern rpg’s don’t hold a candle to them. Old because they are old. And crap because i don’t give a crap about them and i am tired of reading posts from wannabee knowledgeable rpg guys praising them to hell and having the impression that they are somehow special for having played them or that we poor folks that also like new stuff have no idea what we are talking about because we did not play or know about them. Well you got me and i played all of them and many more and i can see through your condescending bull shit and fake superiority.

        1. Look man, I’m not trying to come off as ‘superior’ or anything of that sort. The general gist of my attitude stems from the simple fact that you have to know about the subject being discussed. Nothing more. In this case video games -RPGs- anyone willing to discuss that needs to know old games, new games, good and bad ones, otherwise you lack perspective and end up having a distorted vision of the genre without knowing all, or most, of the facts.

In my mind, a cRPG is a bunch of characteristics, traits and mechanics that make the game, it doesn’t matter at all if the games themselves are old or new. That in itself is completely irrelevant. The thing is that in these past few years due to the massive popularity and streamlining of the gaming market, a lot of those mechanics and characteristics in RPGs have been dumbed down, simplified and outright removed in some cases for all the wrong reasons (to cater casual gamers, not to make the games better). Dragon Age series, ME series, and the latests entries in the TES series for example, are living proof of this.

On the other hand and mostly thanks to Kickstarter there have been some truly, really good recent RPGs like Divinity: Original Sin, Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Dragonfall (didn’t like Shadowrun Returns much) and Paper Sorcerer. And very promising upcoming ones like Pillars of Eternity, Underrail, Legends of Eisenwald, Lords of Xulima and the new Torment. And I don’t name these just because they have an isometric point of view (except Paper Sorcerer) In fact, my favorite RPG is a third person one – Gothic 1, but there aren’t currently any of those in development that seem worthwhile, except Witcher 3 (Lords of the Fallen is a sh*t version of Dark Souls) and I’m looking forward to Raven’s Cry although everything I read and watched of it so far suggest that it’ll be quite mediocre.
