Dragon Age: Inquisition – Here Is One Hour Of Gameplay From The PC Version With Proper PC Controls

Bioware has showcased one hour of gameplay footage from the PC version of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Contrary to previous gameplay videos, this time around Bioware has used our usual keyboard+mouse combo. Do note that there are some minor spoilers here, so watch the video at your own risk. Enjoy!

  1. I’m a PC gamer (don’t own any consoles), and I only use keyboard/mouse in competitive FPS games. I use the 360 gamepad a lot, and exclusively when it comes to TPS or similar games.

The thought of playing any third person game with a mouse and keyboard makes me nauseous.

Mouse/keyboard is king for competitive shooters. But gamepad, I find, is superior for driving games and games like GTA.

    1. It varies from people to people (mostly I find), and game to game. For instance, I’ve been playing Just Cause 2 just fine. No problems with driving or flying at all. Although this game is easy with the K/M setting. Same can’t be said for, ehrm… other games (I’m failing to remember the last time I’ve used a gamepad for a game o.O )

      1. do you have it on steam ? I have it too but i haven;t played mp in a long time, i wonder what has changed in the last year or so.

    2. lol really, show me how you can play any game that has camera controls on the right thumb stick with a controller and keep the camera cinematic and following the action perfectly. You can;t because you have to use the right thumb to press the action buttons. With a mouse, you follow the action perfectly, instantly and smoothly. Not jerking it like a robot. I personally like having 6 buttons ( without movement ) on my left hand and another 6 on my right one coupled with perfect camera movement. The same precision you get in a fps you get anywhere else with mouse kb.
Fighting games, sports, driving, side scrollers are more geared towards controllers. Anything that involves me moving the camera around i use a mouse, it’s so much easier to look around and enjoy the scene or have the camera follow the action in a cinematic way that is enjoyable for those watching. I get people telling me exactly that: they like seeing me play more than others because i follow the action and the scenery better. I laugh because i know it’s only normal to do it while using mouse kb.

Edit: i remember playing shadow of mordor last week and comparing with my friends how shooting the bow looked like when i was doing it with the mouse kb vs doing it with controller. Aiming like a drunk robot versus instant headshot… there was no comparison. And it’s not just mordor, lots of games have you aiming at something and it looks so silly when you do it with controller.

      1. Haha, exactly! People don’t realize how much they’re limiting themselves with thumbsticks.

Thumb muscles aren’t good for fine controls. And a controller is bad for you – it makes you lock your wrist and use just your thumb muscles – that can get painful after a while.

With the mouse you use your entire hand, wrist, and arm (the more relaxed the better!).

There’s really no comparison. The difference is night and day.

      1. I don’t see how posting that is even relevant here. I didn’t own a console (still don’t) when I played the game (played it on my son’s PS3, fyi). And who said anything about needing auto-aim? Even on PS3 I turned that crap off and I can aim perfectly fine with analog sticks on a NON-COMPETITIVE third person action game.

I’ve been gaming on PC for nearly two decades now and gamepad’s/joysticks have always been part of my arsenal.

It’s only in the last few years that I started noticing this “PC iz only for teh keyboards and mouse!” crap.

Some people prefer to play with mouse/keyboard, others with a gamepad. It’s personal preference.

        1. The “PC iz only for teh keyboards and mouse!” has been around for the past 5 years.

And very very few games turning off auto aim on console games means turning off auto aim, you just degree the degree of it, playing with a controller with zero auto aim is basically hopeless.

I’m in the same boat as you tho, I prefer using a pad in a lot of games, which is also the reason I have 3 different pads. One for each console as well as a Retro controller for emulators.
Every game have it’s superior input method, 5 years ago an outrage started to come against games with controllers, and a couple of years ago it reached levels of ridicules, most likely due to the f’ing re**rded PC Master Race re**rds, the people who knows nothing about hardware and still talk like they do.

    3. The only difference between first-person and third-person shooters is the presence of a character on the screen in the latter and a lack of one in the former. I’ve played the PC version of the original Gears of War with a mouse and keyboard and I didn’t come across any issues. It didn’t feel weird and I wouldn’t want to sacrifice precision by using a controller. I used to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and 3 and despite being really good (I had a KDR of 2.75 in MW3), I still strongly prefer using a mouse and keyboard.

With that said, I understand that it boils down to personal preference. Some people like using a controller while others like using a mouse and keyboard. The key thing is to understand that it’s personal preference. One cannot argue that a mouse and keyboard is better than a controller for first-person shooters and real-time strategy games.

    4. I have worked as a software developer for the past 15 years and work with PC’s all day but I still find the KB+M controls so awkward to use for games where I need to react fast. I am always hitting the wrong keys and my fingers start to ache after spending time twisting them around to reach the CTRL or SHIFT keys while using WASD. The gamepad for me is much more relaxing even if it’s not as fast or precise. To me it’s like choosing to eat with a pair of chopsticks instead of a single fork.

      1. well hitting the wrong keys means you did not play enough to have them be second nature. Nobody said using mouse kb was easier than hitting 3 buttons and moving 2 sticks. Just that is more fast precise and gives you much more customization and keys.

  2. I guess this isn’t much of a surprise since it uses Frostbite, but during the video they confirmed Crossfire will work (and I’m assuming SLI as well). So that’s some good news.

    1. origin is as good as steam. yeah i know, there is not much games in it but only EA ones. it’s a good client with the refund option 😀

      1. As good as Uplay U meant to say. why have 3 games client when having one is good enough to play games…

So far nothing in Origin amazes me to even register an account in there.

Well Titanfall is a pretty well game…but CS GO made me totally forget about it!

        1. there are good games on origins but you know, it’s subjective. but no,
it’s not like Uplay, Uplay is just bad but origin is always woking, no
need to log-in thousand times, no crashes, refund option which steam
          doesn’t have etc…

          1. Yep. But in Uplay I have maybe 12 games that need to run it through Steam and only mass effect 1,2 and crysis 1, 2 of Origin.

So for me Uplay is better! lmao!

      2. I don’t believe its as good as steam, its significantly worse then it. Origin just a gaming platform isnt bad, ive not had any problems with it and idk why people dislike it. Like you mentioned it has a much more lenient refund policy which is nice. Steam on the other hand is so much more then just a store, its an entire community with an ever-growing software. Things like big picture, in-home streaming, the music player are all really nice additions that sadly origin doesnt have. Then theres also the lack of massive sales and most importantly VALVE games 😀 <-that ones kind of a joke.

  3. It doesn’t matter what you like to play with, as long as there are PROPER mouse and keyboard controls. What PC gamers have a beef with is when the developers don’t give a sh*t what feels right on the m&kb and the button layout is awkward or there’s a crazy amount of mouse acceleration.

    1. New to PC gaming hu? Before you got games with absolutely no mouse and keyboard support, why? Because the game was much much better without it.

And you talk about mouse acceleration like it’s something terrible. It’s terrible in Counter Strike, it’s needed in Quake.

      1. what the hell are you talking about, i think since quake 2 mouse support has been in every game. And no, accel is not needed in quake, everybody tries to get rid of it because it’s arbitrary. Having a fixed rate of movement is easier to learn and get used to.

  4. The very year Quake 2 was released, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter was relesed, good luck using your mouse there.

And no, acceleration isn’t needed at casual level in Quake, it is however needed at higher levels. Why do you think you have absolute control over mouse acceleration in Quake? Because iD thought it would be fun to put it in there? They even added it into Quake Live later on due about it lacking. It’s useless in a game like Counter Strike, but it’s a must in Quake.
