Ubisoft has released a new video for Beyond Good and Evil 2, in which Creative Director Michel Ance gives us a behind the scenes look at the first in-engine demo shown at E3 2017. In Beyond Good and Evil 2, players will fight alongside unforgettable characters in a stunning new solar system, as they struggle for freedom and the right to determine their own fate among the stars.
Players will be able to game either by themselves or with friends in a vast and seamless online playground.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the spiritual successor to the cult classic, a prequel that will transport players into a profoundly multicultural world, capturing the spirit of the original with grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe. Through the Space Monkey Program, Ubisoft Montpellier will be developing the game alongside its community of fans.

Okay listen. Haven’t seen the video yet but I have to say… I’m a huge fan of the first game and played through it multiple times and played the soundtrack for countless hours. But you gotta realise that it’s been 14 years since the first game.
Michel Ancel specifically said in the behind the scenes video that Beyond Good and Evil, despite it being a good game in his eyes, wasn’t the game he initially wanted to make. The colourful and child-friendly aesthetics was a choice made when they had to deal with limited hardware at the time.
It’s part of the reason why the game has been delayed for so long. It may not be the BG&E game many wanted but you gotta give the man some respect for getting the opportunity to finally realise his vision he wanted since the first game. The mature tone was clearly added since it could appeal to the fans who actually grew up. I’m sure all the love and passion from the first game will still be intact but 10 times bigger. Everything has to be complete trash to you doesn’t it? lol. At least try to see some positives in the negatives.
It seems like a sequel only in name to me. I see nothing here that reminds me of anything from the original, except a lady with green eyes who is almost definitely Jades mom.

Hell I could even make a game now about a female protagonist and state I want a female protagonist because I want a strong female character which could be seen as me being a feminist supporter/cuck but STILL produce a well written character. I think it has less to do with identity and it’s more about whether or not the game feels like pandering to SJW types. A game that uses “multiculturalism” as a selling point in its marketing does seem to reference today’s hot button political issues, and when you do that, somebody’s is going to be mad, it’s inevitable.

Seriously… The game can do whatever it wants. Honestly to me, it feels fresh. Having a more ‘eastern’ focus with these cultures is just going to make the whole thing feel fresh and interesting to me.
Some people don’t understand why diversity is a really good thing in games like this. It’s the same reason diversity in food is great. It is more exotic, it has more novelty, it’s just more interesting.

This is wayyy more ambitious than I expected 😮 Like the level of Star Citizen ambitious. It’s going to be interesting to see how this works out. Surprising to see considering it’s Ubisoft – they had a lack of faith in the past for this universe it seemed. The first game did sell terribly so I don’t blame ’em. What worries me a lot is how they’re aiming for a Switch release too… I just can’t see how a game of this scope will be able to run on that hardware specifically.
I’m just glad that Star Citizen isn’t the only game now to really go for a expansive and sophisticated world, where you’ll be able to explore interiors of massive ships, hire AI and online players to journey with you. As well as implementing a lot of unique tech. I just don’t see how anyone wouldn’t be impressed by this. Even with disappointments like No Man’s Sky. Unlike that game people will be able to start testing the early phase of the game sooner or later. They’re going for the whole open development thing which SC is currently doing.
It’s going to have all the things which we loved about the first game (including the photography element). If they get the story, the humour and charm right like its predecessor then it’s pretty much a win-win for everybody. And then perhaps in the future they’ll be able to go back into Jade’s story? Who knows.
I think it will be awesome, to me the tech video looked really good in this early state.
Yeah it was pretty much what I expected from reading an article about it the other day but it still impressed me seeing it in motion. Looks very polished, especially when controlling the ship and being able to go into space and then back down with very minimal texture pop ins which is cool.
We won’t get to see a proper playable demo until next year from what it seems tho. A demo with actual gameplay mechanics and so on.
Except this is being being funded by and made in conjunction with Ubisoft.
Which is great because we’ll see how both these games will end up. One being completely funded by the fans, whilst the other isn’t. And on top of that fans will be able to beta test BG&E2 for free. None of that “pre-order to play stuff”. A strange but pleasant move from Ubisoft I’ll admit.

Why ? This is Ubisoft. Whatever said and done, they have huge studios everywhere. If anyone can pull this off, it’s them. They can afford to dedicate 1000 people and tons of money to a project like this.
Not only that, but remember that this game will not release on current gen consoles (I assure you 100%), so you don’t have the constraints that you normally have. That was also, imo, part of the problem with No Man’s Sky.
Also, as a side note, I think that Cyberpunk 2077 will release on the next generation of consoles only. What are your thoughts about that ?

Being white is one thing, being caucasian is another thing, im white, but i have descendence of Afro-american, south american natives, italian and portuguese( possibly jews), that i assume were caucasians. Still i’m white, and i suffer from being white here in Brasil, as strange as it sounds, most people here rarely recognize “Race” traces because the people are generaly ignorant and the population very homogeneous.
Anyway, is undeniable the push for the multi culturalism where the main character is not white and it was made intentionaly this way.
