Battlefield 1 looks quite spectacular in this colour corrected video

YouTube’s ‘jackfrags’ has released an amazing video from Battlefield 1’s closed alpha phase. Jackfrags used the BF1 Cinematic Tools from Hatti Watti in order to colour correct and completely remove the game’s HUD. The end result is quite stunning, so be sure to watch the video after the jump!

  1. Ok i’ve watched 10 seconds and i can’t believe what i’m seeing. WHY DON’T THEY USE these colors omfg. This is so freaking beautiful. Let’s hope we’ll be able to reproduce this for ourselves.

      1. They won’t let you use it though.

Someone got rid of the blue filter on Battlefield 3 back in the day too, they broke the mod within a few days, called it “an unfair advantage.”

They actually think this is better, you see.

        1. Not yet, but it could take a long time to get a DX12 version, because Crosire doesn’t like Win10.

      1. I liked the blue hue and cinematic style more than the wannabe realistic look of BF4. This looks good enough to rock a more neutral and realistic style.

  2. I haven’t dived too far into the current alpha. A lot of options are locked still. But the current color scheme is difficult to distinguish vehicles and players.from much of the charred background at least for me.

      1. Without a doubt it’s very fitting for the era. It just doesn’t make for a great game experience. Of course I’ve complained about this with every BF game since 3 and each I time I get used to it after a while. It’s very much a personal gripe.

        1. It may be fitting indeed, but DICE needs to realise no matter how Cinematic their sh*t looks, they’re not making movies, they’re making interactive games, where people need to actually see properly, rather than admire “the artistic cinematography” or whatnot.

Not that they ever will, of course.

          1. That’s the thing, I don’t think it’s a cinematic approach though. It’s more of a fidelity to the setting. We could argue all day long if games should do that or not or if this works or not and at the end I will be in the camp of player choice (as usual).

Personally, I like hindering gameplay for a stylistic/aesthetic approach. But I can see why not everyone likes it.

          2. Fidelity to setting is fine, if you want to make an artistic title.

However, ever since Battlefield 3 DICE seems to be trying to make both a Competitive FPS & “a game for everyone” at the same time, which is impossible, so once again I find myself wondering; do they actually want to make a Competitive FPS, or do they just want to make really good looking FPS games?

Because if this is them seriously attempting to make a Competitive FPS title [again], then I’m really starting to understand why none of their titles have yet to take off in the eSports industry.

As an artistic choice, I understand it, but nevertheless, I can see it being quite aggravating if people constantly find themselves unable to tell a player apart from their surroundings, as was often the case in BF3 & BF4. Especially since they don’t seem to have nameplates popping up over their heads anymore when you focus on them?

Makes me wonder about Spotting….. Hm. I’ll have to look into that.

It’s the same argument as with balancing – being faithful to the real world is fine, but there has to be a limit to that. Some weapons just can’t be balanced the same way as others, but DICE doesn’t get that either, so they just go & balance everything the same way, & as a result, bad, irritating sh*t happens. Constantly.

          3. Can’t please everyone, that’s why I always advocate having options and modding. Letting the player tailor the experience of at least have some degree of control outside of the imposed artistic choice. People who appreciate your artistic choice will continue to do that and the ones who don’t well… they still buying your product, so all the effort in the craft still pays off in one way or another. :))

Also, I don’t see DICE/BF wanting a piece of the eSports pie. I think the competitiveness is more the players taking the game way more seriously than the devs themselves. 😛

          4. Alternatively, leave the “artisticness” to the Campaign Mode, & balance the Multiplayer as necessary.

Regardless, agreed, & yeah, they probably gave up on eSports some time ago, but even so, I’d argue for prioritising gameplay & quality of life over artistic value in a Competitive FPS, but anyway.

Hey, maybe one day they’ll actually realise the Modding potential that BF still has? ;D

          5. TBH, I think most people who gave up on eSports did so when they found out what games are used in eSports…

          6. Hate to break the news to you, but DICE isn’t making this game specifically for you and your notion of what people need or don’t need to see. It’s a BF game, not an indie title hoping the public likes their “new spin” on FPS’s.

Like 7th just said, the playing of the game is intended to be more chaotic, more difficult because of the setting, and thus, the color scheme.

          7. “Specifically for me & my notion”?

What? I wasn’t even the first person to bring this up, I was responding to someone who responded to someone who responded to someone who did. Hell, people have made Mods, across multiple DICE titles to get rid of their ridiculously intrusive/aggressive filters, so obviously, it’s not just a bunch of fringe-group people who agree with “me & my notion” moaning on some forum because they don’t like DICE’s “artistic notions” or whatnot.

It’s a Battlefield game, indeed, & as usual, it utterly fails to be a viable Competitive FPS, exactly because of DICE & their idiotic design decisions, but hey, since it’s not an indie FPS with a “new spin”, I guess that doesn’t matter, right? I mean, it’ll sell great at the start anyway, no matter what, so what does it matter if you get turned off after 60 minutes of playing it, since you’ve already paid for it? Right?

          8. Making up excuses for retárded design decision which degrade the gameplay experience.

People weren’t fighting in f*cking blue tinted sunglasses back then.

  3. Wait, is the game actually running at 4k 60? I don’t think I have ever seen a modern AAA hitting 60 at 4k. Seems downright unbelievable considering how good it looks.

    1. Far as I remember, optimization has never been DICE &/or Frostbite’s problem, just EA launching stuff prematurely “because [insert].”

Regardless, yeah, that is some amazing tech. Though, we don’t know what Specs he’s running that on either, by-the-by (his Twitch page doesn’t say). There could be SLi 1080’s in there, for all we know.

      1. Yes, I’m quite curious about the specs. I don’t suppose it’s going to be anything remotely mainstream.

  4. I HATE the blood splatter effect on the sides of the screen when you get hit, is there a way to completely disable it?

      1. seriously? lol.. you never played old fps games right? old school bf, ( nolf) no one lives forever, unreal, Rise of the Triad, Deus Ex etc..

        1. no, I get it. And I agree with you, it can be annoying. But in terms of BF4, I grew so accustomed to it, and relied on it to know how far to push my limits. We’ll see how it goes.

  5. I have Alpha, GG IMO
But many will ‘bounce’ of it.
Here you need Skill ! Weapons are not the same as in BF:3 or BF:4/H
