There comes a time when you realize that a specific game will flop. You see, while the gameplay trailers of Star Trek: The Video Game were quite good (thanks to clever editing), we always felt that something was ‘off’. Unfortunately, it seems that we were right as the actual gameplay mechanics of this new Star Trek game are awful. Since this is a Performance Analysis, we don’t want to focus on them but think of this title as a failed mashup of Mass Effect 3 (cover and combat mechanics) with Batman: Arkham Asylum (scanning abilities) that is accompanied by some truly bad and ‘robotic’ animation transitions. Digital Extremes has released a new trailer for its free-t0-play third person title, Warframe, showcasing the PhysX effects that have been introduced to it. Nvidia owners will enjoy some new particle effects, though we have to say that we were not impressed with what Digital Extremes added. After all, we’ve seen these particular effects in both Hawken and Planetside 2, so there is nothing new or extraordinary here. Digital Extremes has informed us about a new update for its free-to-play third-person title, Warframe, that is currently available to all beta testers. This update adds a new environment, meaning that players will take on enemies on the new Grineer Asteroid Base. In addition, zipline and wall running have been implemented, and two new Warframes – Nyx and Frost – have been added as playable characters. YouTube’s member ‘ChronicExe’ has uploaded the first gameplay footage from Warframe, Digital Extremes’ upcoming futuristic free-to-play third person shooter. Warframe is powered by the Evolution Engine (despite the user talking about CryEngine 3) and is supposedly supporting DX11 features. It looks bloody gorgeous and could very well be the best – visually – free-to-play title to this date. Question now is whether Digital Extremes will be able to implement lots of modes and features in order to keep players interested to it. The game is currently in closed beta phase. Enjoy! Get ready everyone because this is what a lot of you have been waiting for. Digital Extremes has just informed us about the beginning of the Warframe Closed Beta, meaning that the new Free-to-play, sci-fi action game – from the developers behind Unreal, Dark Sector and The Darkness II – is now in its testing phase. Players will be added to the Closed Beta incrementally over the next several weeks to help improve the game and infrastructure in preparation for the official launch of the Open Beta this winter. Namco has announced that they’ll be showcasing – in full 3D – Star Trek at this weekend’s London event Destination Star Trek London, in a specially build screening room (using Nvidia technology). The publisher will show a gameplay presentation, demonstrating the most varied co-op experience for this console generation from both Spock and Kirk’s unique in game perspective’s.
